The Biggest Breast Cancer Risk Factor That No One Is Talking About

By Lucinda Marshall, AlterNet. Posted October 23, 2008.

While the media sound alarms about breast cancer's links to lifestyle choices and genetics, a much more likely risk factor is going undiscussed.

During October, women are bombarded with media telling us what we can do to stop breast cancer. Article after article after television human interest segment informs us about personal risk factors such as smoking and being overweight (although 70 percent of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer have none of these factors) and about genetic risks (which only account for 10 percent of breast cancers.) We are bombarded with stories about the importance of getting mammograms and other tests. Then there are the survivor stories (usually about women much younger, whiter and cover-girl prettier than the average breast cancer survivor) that pull at our heartstrings. But there is very little mention of environmental factors such as auto exhaust, and chemicals like parabens and phthalates that we are exposed to every day.

The most deafening silence, however, is about radiation, which is a 100 percent known cause of cancer. We are exposed to radiation in a variety of ways, through X-rays, CT scans and mammograms, but also by living near a nuclear power plant or having been exposed to weaponry that uses depleted uranium.

Leuren Moret is geoscientist who has been working for a number of years to raise awareness about the dangers of radiation, an issue she became concerned about after hearing Native American women who live near areas where nuclear weapons have been tested talk about cancer and other health problems they are experiencing and by a visit to Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Japan. In this interview, she talks about what we know about the relationship between radiation and breast cancer.

Lucinda Marshall: In your recent article published in Namaste magazine, "Populations Exposed to Environmental Uranium: Increased Risk of Infertility and Reproductive Cancers," you wrote about a scientific study that found that "radiation is the only known cause of breast cancer in mice" and about findings that show that Navajo women who live near uranium mining operations have very high rates of breast cancer. What does that tell us about the connection between uranium and radiation and cancer?

Leuren Moret: The scientific study that found "radiation is the only known cause of breast cancer in mice" was conducted at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, home of the Manhattan Project -- the World War II atomic bomb development project which produced the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombs -- and where they have been studying the biological/environmental effects of radiation for 68 years. After billions of dollars in research funds, however, they could never identify the cause of breast cancer in women.

The newest published peer-reviewed study, by a Navajo researcher, provides the scientific evidence published by U.S. government sources that low levels of uranium in drinking water, below EPA drinking water standards, is an estrogen and hormone disruptor. The animal studies are important because we have the same hormones and similar estrogen responses as animals.

Before 1945, cancer mortality was very rare. Large increases in cancer mortality in the past 100 years begin with the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombs dropped on Japan in 1945. A Japanese government map of the major causes of death in Japan from 1899 to 2004 shows that cancer mortality increased rapidly after 1945. With the introduction of each new nuclear technology since 1945 -- atmospheric testing, nuclear power plants, depleted uranium -- it is obvious that ionizing radiation is a major cause of cancer globally, and uranium is a major radioactive component of nuclear weapons, including depleted uranium weapons systems introduced to the battlefield in 1991 in Gulf War I.

This breast cancer map from Centers for Disease Control data (see below illustration) identifies that within a 100-mile radius of nuclear reactors is where two-thirds of all U.S. breast cancer deaths occurred between 1985 and 1989. The map (see below illustration) of nuclear power plants in the U.S. identifies them as the major cause of breast cancer in the U.S., as well as nuclear weapons labs in New Mexico, Idaho, Washington and California. This is further confirmed by the breast cancer clusters identified in Japan and California, which occurred where it rained the day the Chernobyl radiation cloud passed over and the rain deposited the fission products in the environment.

Breast Cancer Deaths (1985-89) and Nuclear Power Plants

Marshall: Given that radiation is a known cause of cancer, it is really frustrating to me that it gets so little attention in the popular media's discussion of breast cancer. In fact, most of what we read and hear is focused on finding "the cure" rather than the cause. Why do you think that is?

Moret: Western science was set up and established in London beginning in the 1600s by the Royal Society, to serve the needs of the international bankers and the industrialists. For that reason, much of Western science is actually "politicized science." In the past century, the financier elite were heavily involved in getting rich from world wars and the manufacture of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) that Western science has developed. The health effects of those WMDs must be hidden from the public or they would catch on to WMDs as the cause of huge increases in chronic illnesses and refuse to pay the taxes that secretly support development of WMDs. The Atomic Energy Commission and the military set up the EPA, NIH, NCI and CDC to hide the health and environmental effects of nuclear technologies from the public. It took me eight years doing research 18 hours a day to discover this truth. The University of California is the main WMD contractor for the international financial elite, and for that reason it will forever be known as "the university that poisoned the world."

The pharmaceutical companies that manufacture breast cancer drugs fund the breast cancer NGOs, so they control the focus in the popular media on finding "the cure." They would be acting against their own best interests if they identified the cause.

We had a monumental battle in the City of Berkeley with a resolution we passed Oct. 10, 2000, naming October as "Stop Cancer Where it Starts Month," which focused on the cause and prevention of cancer, even naming ionizing radiation as a cause. But we did it!

Marshall: It strikes me as quite peculiar that since genetic damage caused by radiation is cumulative over a lifetime that the medical community advocates that women, particularly those with no risk factors, get routine yearly mammograms. I'm also wondering about the use of radiation as a treatment for breast cancer. According to Breast Cancer Fund's "State of the Evidence 2008, "Women older than age 55 derive less benefit from radiation therapy in terms of reduced rate of local recurrence and may face increased risks of radiation-induced cardiovascular complications, as well as secondary cancers such as leukemias and cancers of the lung, esophagus, stomach and breast. Using SEER data from the National Cancer Institute, researchers showed a 16-fold increased relative risk of angiosarcoma of the breast and chest wall following irradiation to a primary breast cancer. That seems like an awfully dangerous "cure" to me.

Moret: Dr. John W. Gofman was a very rare radiation researcher, citizen scientist, and a gift to humanity. He was a physicist and an M.D., and worked on the biological effects of radiation at the Lawrence Livermore Lab until they cut off his research funds and he returned to the UC Berkeley faculty. His books, Preventing Breast Cancer (1996) and Radiation From Medical Procedures in the Pathogenesis of Cancer and Ischemic Heart Disease (1999), are extremely important research works which identify the dangers of ionizing radiation in medical procedures. His work was acknowledged in the recent BEIR VII report by the National Academy of Sciences. His was a rare voice of sanity warning us about the extreme dangers of mammograms. He told me that for every case of breast cancer identified through mammograms, five new cases of breast cancer are caused by the diagnostic use of radiation in mammograms. It sounds like a good way, for the medical industry, to generate repeat business and large profits.

Marshall: I also want to ask you what your thoughts are on the new molecular breast imaging (MBI) test, which is reportedly more effective than mammograms at finding breast cancers in dense breast tissue, but exposes women to 8 to 10 times more radiation than they receive with mammograms.

Moret: If the molecular breast imaging test exposes a woman to 8 to 10 times more radiation than mammograms, and mammograms are known to create five new cases of breast cancer for every case they identify, then it is not an option. I think the best option for women is to regularly practice breast self-exams.

Marshall: It seems to me that if we really want to "cure" breast cancer, we need to work toward preventing it by limiting our exposure to known carcinogens, especially radiation. Can you elaborate on what kind of research needs to be funded and what kinds of policy changes are needed, and steps that we as individuals can take to ensure that we refocus our efforts to end breast cancer?

Moret: I think it is very clear from the data I have gathered from governments around the world, including U.S. government data, that ionizing radiation is the main cause of breast cancer ... and other cancers. The focus now should be on educating the public about how to minimize exposure risk to ionizing radiation. Drinking water and dairy products are the two main pathways of exposure to ionizing radiation. If you Google Video my name, Leuren Moret, there are many interviews and presentations of mine on the Internet providing the information people need to understand more about this issue.

Reverse osmosis filters should be in every home to purify the drinking water and remove radioactive isotopes from the water. The filter systems are about $500, which is very cheap compared to the cost of radiation-caused illnesses. The global atmospheric pollution of Planet Earth with depleted uranium from our radioactive battlefields in Iraq, Yugoslavia and Afghanistan is contaminating drinking water globally. Each day as the depleted uranium bombing continues in faraway countries, the need for an effective water filter system is more important because the uranium is here in two weeks. Uranium levels in Los Angeles drinking water doubled in 2007 alone -- in just one year.

Being aware of which dairies are located downwind from nuclear power plants is critical in purchasing dairy products. For example, in California, two main dairy regions are located in the Fresno area, which is directly downwind from Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant, and the Imperial Valley area, which is downwind from San Onofre nuclear power plant.

The most shocking discovery I made is a dairy industry report on widespread use of imported contaminated milk protein powder in junk food. Although contaminated with radioactivity, foot and mouth disease, mad cow disease, bubonic plague and drugs, it is imported and used by U.S. food manufacturers. They use it because it increases profits.

Most aspects of breast cancer can be linked to profits, unfortunately, rather than a woman's right to have a healthy body. We need to take the profit out of breast cancer.

A Primer on the various forms of ionizing radiation

would be useful - as would publishing this in the main feed. Perhaps that's why AsteroidMiner has failed to post in response to this.

Most people don't know about tritium dumping (the main exposure to internal ionizing radiation from nuclear plants), and therein lies an educational opportunity. To do that would require a primer on the effects of internal exposure to beta and alpha radiation (tritium exposure is the former).

How to explain free radical formation - tricky - start with explanation on avoiding radiation sickness - dehydration with wine or coffee, ionization of cell water... if someone is up to it. Wikipedia has a page on ionizing radiation, but with the irrelevant information that paper can block alpha emission (what's supposed to hold paper in the way when the alpha emission occurs inside your body?).

Should also explain why one is lucky when an exposed cell dies from radiation (as opposed to going cancerous) - is the author interested in doing this?

This is an issue that is very important especially now that The Powers That Be want more nuclear plants because it's green electricity. Nothing could be further from the truth. The whole uranium cycle is deadly, we need to stop it now.

The article states that before 1945 cancer deaths were rare, but it overlooks that most people didn't live long enough then to reach their prime cancer-getting age. And look at the map that purports to match cancer deaths to nearness to nuke plants. Please. The nuclear plants are there because that's where most of the people are who need electricity. Those are the major population clusters. There are more deaths because there are more people in those areas to die. As well as nuclear plants in those areas you'll also find that there are more alligator shoes to blame cancer on (and to blame anything else associated with people on), and you'll find more bow ties and jelly doughnuts in those areas, and more earsplitting notes from badly played saxophones, and more lipstick and tattoos and poetry slams and churches and paperback books and hair-care products, and so on and so forth. Radioactive materials cause cancer, yes, and adding in /all/ the costs of nuclear power gives you a much bigger figure than the nuke industry puts forth, but childish scare articles like the above don't really further the discussion.

I appreciate this article and will look deeper into the issue because of it. However, I would like to add that a husband and wife team of medical anthropologists have fingered Brassieres as a principal cause of breast cancer. They surveyed 7,500 women and found a direct correlation between bra wearing and cancer incidence. Basically, the more restrictive the bra (i.e. underwire, pushup, etc.) and the longer it is worn in hours per day, the higher the risk of breast cancer. They also provide evidence from cross cultural studies with societies wear bra wearing is rare. Their most frightening finding was that the correlation between bra wearing and breast cancer was GREATER than between smoking and lung cancer! You can read more about this research in their book, Dressed to Kill, by Sydney Ross Singer and Soma Grismaijer.

Chemical Pollution, Drugs and Diet More Significant Risk Than Radiation

This article is interesting and contains some very valid points - bit its political bias is very obvious and it unfairly discredits itself somewhat by its use of maps attempting to correlate nuclear power stations with cancer rates in a manner that a 10 year old could dismiss.

However high levels of radiation are a known cause of cancer and should be avoided. Polluting the entire World's atmosphere by Atmospheric Nuclear Testing and the Chernobyl Disaster will have resulted in far more deaths than has been acknowledged across the planet.

But lots of studies show that other environmental pollutants have a far greater effect on cancer rates than does radiation levels.

For example a study demonstrated that the Sami population of Northern Finland have a significantly reduced incidence of cancer. Yet they have a much increased level of exposure to radiation due to fallout from the nuclear weapon tests absorbed via their reindeer-rich diet.

High levels of radiation are both naturally occurring - and always have been - in certain geographic areas - but also artifically in some jobs where it is used intensively on a daily basis.

If radiation was as significant a risk factor as this article tries to make out - the effects of it would be completely obvious and instantly recognisable in populations who have had very high radiation exposure throughout their lives.

This is simply not the case with radiation - but is with other forms of pollution.

Coal Power Stations kill far more people than Nuclear Power Stations.

Both however keep far more people alive than they kill.

Sure we all want a nice clean green world free of pollution.

Shut down all the Coal and Nuclear Power Stations and see what happens

Billions will die as a direct result.

Nuclear weapons will probably kill us all any way - so don't worry about it too much.

The solution of course is to dismantle all the nuclear weapons - and use their material to generate energy in new nuclear power stations across the World.

But instead we are controlled by lunatics and there is very little hope that sense will prevail.

We could turn the planet into heaven on earth - but are well on our way to turn it into hell.

Sure some want to go back to live like the Native American Indians who were in complete balance with nature in a totally sustainable way - and probably had a far more enjoyable life style...But just look what happenned to them. The White Man came along and reduced their population from 60 Million to a few hundred thousand.

Only in industrialized nations do you find incidence of breast cancer the likes of the United States. Only in industrialized nations have they devalued the life of animals to the point where the flesh has been cheapened to absurdity leading to incomprehensible levels of production, consumption and cruelty. You don't get all of that for nothing and within that spectrum, dairy is the most solid causal link to breast cancer.

Doctors/scientists appeared on TV for decades saying there was no evidence that tobacco caused cancer. Only decades later we learned they were paid to say that. Tobacco companies had the evidence... in their safe. That is mainstream media in the US.

Hormones like The Pill and hormone replacement

threapy such as Premerin that were once given to women for menopause are a MUCH bigger cause than radiation.

Studies have shown that the hormones of pharma birth control - especially in the higher doses that were given in the past, along with the hormones of the drugs that were given to women to reduce the effects of menapause have produced breast cancer in a high percentage of women. Christ, birth control pills were once widely prescribed for ACNE in young girs around 30 years ago!

Of corse, there is drug company and doctor liability at issue with this, so it's kept off the table and we are diverted with things like "lifestyle" and radiation.

A Article

Current rating: 4    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Now THIS was an excellent article. They made some outstanding points apparently some people have yet to realize.

#1Science is highly politicized. There are still too many people who actually think the system is neutral vs serving the interests of elite groups.

#2 Cancer is profitable. I am blown away how the general public thinks those public health campaigns are really for their own good. They are good for generating profit for pharma and the medial industry. The health of the citizenry comes second. All one has to do is look at how many dangerous pills pharma has knowingly released to know no one in the industry is on the public's side.

Yet, even people who consider themselves intellectually sophisticated buy into them to some degree. I am always amazed that when an article on the dangers of obesity comes out, no one cares to deconstruct it. But when something other than what is been crammed down our throats(lifestyle) is considered, long hidden critical thinking skills and research acumen come out of hiding to critique the methodology. Quite simply, the marketing campaign by MSM is working!!!

I am not saying the research presented in above article is above questioning, no research should be. But if it causes us to distrust the conventional medical establishment a little bit more- GOOD!!!

p.s. For those not familiar with the work of Dr. Epstein, he is also worth checking into

Physicians are doctoring the Symptoms, but NOT THE BASIS OF THE HEALTH PROBLEM.
The Human Body, was Made with CELLS, which can REPLENISH THEMSELVES, & Cancer is "just an Action" word, Used to Describe, the Opposite of "Replenish / Replacement" of Cells, of the
Body.
WHO WANTS TO "LIVE UNHEALTHY"???
I was born "with LESS THAN 1/3 of the Cells, of the Pituitary Gland..." & I lived, past the
age of 60, BEFORE A PHYSICIAN, WOULD PROVIDE ME WITH "HRT / HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY", &
then I was Placed on Homehealth & the nurses, Documented the Progress of My Health, & WITHIN 3 MONTHS...MY HEALTH BEGIN TO IMPROVE, BEGINNING WITH THE *INCREASE OF MENTAL ABILITIES OF ...UNDERSTANDING / COMPREHENSION*
& Within 1-year...my health had Improved moreso & at the end of 2-years, an MRI, was again...taken of the head & pituitary gland, &
I NO LONGER HAD *EMPTY SELLA SYNDROME*.
ESS had caused: Slow Aging / Slow Digestion / Inability to Carry Pregnancy to full-term / Infant Deaths / Spontaneous Abortions (miscarriages) / Inability to tolerate some types of food / Hypothermia / Low-Blood Pressure / Hypoglycemia...when giving birth to babies.
At birth I weighed "less than 3 lbs." & at age 18 I weighed 76 lbs. & at age 30 I weighed 96 lbs. At age 18 I wore a child's size 1-shoe &
at age 30 I wore size 5 1/2 shoe.
At age 60, I weighed 103... I never kept "gained weight", after birthing infants.
With the Increased dosage of HRT, I no longer experienced Mental Illness BEHAVIORS, such as:
A.D.D. / Manic or Anxiety attacks...
Today, at age 64, I maintain Mental, Physical, & Emotional - Balance, long as the HRT, is "given at the Same Number of Days, APART",
WITHOUT IT VARYING ANY iota.
(I am Intolerant of Mental Health Meds).
Some of the foods / drugs to which I was Intolerant, are: Combination of, Red / Blue Food Dye, found in Hawaiian Punch & Grape drinks such as Grape Gatorade-Grape Cola's.
I could Not Tolerate any Sedative type meds...
nor most meds for nausea...
COULD NOT TOLERATE "SYNTHETIC" type meds.
(Research lets us know, that CONTENTS IN SOY
BEANS, COME CLOSEST TO THE HORMONE FLUIDS, PRODUCED BY THE HUMAN BODY.).
(note: Hormone Imbalance will Trigger: Gender Personality / Character, Disorder).
Many persons, who are Diagnosed as being: Mentally Ill...MAY NOT BE MENTALLY ILL...but have an Imbalance of the Chemicals, which are supposed to be Triggered by the Brain Reactors.
(Wonder what scientist are figuring out, that cause Severe PTSD in Military Soldiers ??).
Stress on the body, can cause the body to Lose
Hormonal Fluids, which have an Effect on the Central Nervous System, thus, causing the brain to Malfunction.
(No, I am Not a Medical Professional, but just a person, with Common Sense).
Also, doctors should be Recommending that Patients who are Obese, "take Mineral Oil", instead of Lasix..which depreciates the body,
of Needed Nutrients, for surving stresses of
life & illness of the body.
Perhaps physicians "don't wish for patients to have WELLNESS"...it would Mean Less Money for them...less need of their knowledge-their services..."
But, Aren't We (America), Entitled to Healthy
Soldiers...who must be Sturdy Enough to Withstand the Rigors of War...& conflicts on the Battlefield?

Strange article there is a reason for the silence.

I really wish the author would show some biological information that for some reason breast tissues are far more susceptible to radiation than other parts of the body. Such as the skin which is bombarded constantly with all types of radiation or dental tissues which get hit every year. If there is resounding evidence that breast tissue is far more susceptible to radiation than surrounding tissue there wouldnt be silence. What happens if environmental pollutants cause breast cancer and no one gets mammograms because they are unreasonably scared of radiation? Early detection is key to long term survival. By the way author how does radiation cause cancer? How do environmental pollutants cause cancer? What is the difference? Why would radiation be worse? What a poorly written scare piece based on garbage. I found some evidence that chest x-rays before age 30 were linked to an increased breast cancer risk in Poland among women who carry a BRCA1 mutation. Guess what BRCA1 does? Its a DNA damage control gene and radiation damages DNA. Many mutations in DNA damage control genes are associated with increased risk for developing cancer. Since DNA damage control genes are involved in repairing broken DNA and when they dont work so well DNA damage doesnt get fixed which can lead to cancer. If you have this mutation you need to be screened more often for breast cancer. Remember early detection is key to long term survival. Sets up sort of a paradox. Why not focus on personalized medicine and how doctors should be better equipped. Maybe work out patient specific screening for say a HER2/neu vs BRCA1 vs unknown cause. Or if you are lazy like the author just scare people away from life saving early detection.

How does one uncouple radiation from mammograms and the link between environmental pollutants? Live in a country with routine mammograms you are probably living in a country full of pollutants. The vast majority of which there is no toxicology data at a range of normal environmental concentrations encountered by humans.

CANCER, is: an *Action* word...

THE HUMAN BODY, "MUST HAVE...A PRE-EXISTING INFECTION, for Cancer to TAKE ACTION"...even an
Unborn Baby, can have an Infection & be: born
Cancerous.
Pre-natal Care is One of the Most Important Issues, in Healthcare of females, during their Child-Bearing Years.
It is the Reactors of the Brain, that CAUSE THE BODY TO BE STRESSED / OVER-REACT...TO CAUSE THE *MOTION...& FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF THE MOTION-THE ACTION...Cancer.
(A person can learn the Meaning of Words, by attending an English-Grammar class & study the
Diagraming of Sentences... which Should Be a Most Important Part of the Subjects, studied in School...but Diagraming is No Longer, made a Focus...thus: the current students..may Not Realize the Meanings of Words).
So, with this said... Who Is Gonna Tell Us,"how best to cure the Infection"... & get it detected in time, to Prevent the Infection...FROM EATING AWAY ON TISSUES OF THE BODY.
Any Substances, containing Aloe Vera, can Provide Some, if not ALL CURE FOR THE Human Body.
(Drinking boiled Okra Juice... with some salt in it... will rid the body of mild to severe ulcers, of the lining of the stomach & intestines... country people do this).
My mother was a believer in Olde Wives Tales & Indian Remedies... & Delivering Babies...like the Women of Black Heritage, did it... with Common Sense & Female Intuition.
I've heard that Mannetech is an outstanding source of aloe vera, for body health maintenance....good health... but then, who am I, but just an older person, who has "lived thru many experiences of life"...to be Very Healthy...even now...No Degeneration to the Vital Organs of the Body...& the cells of the brain, Replenished Themselves, with HRT.
(Did someone say, ESS...causes Slow Aging...).
Does a Person who becomes a User of HRT substances, "get old, faster"??).
Can Developmentally-Disabled Individuals, have Improved Health of the Mind & Body, by the Use of HRT ??.... I was Diagnosed as DD...at Birth & Now...well...only the Documentation of the Homehealth Nurses... will show the proof, in the future...
Wonder what the Life Expectancy is, of Persons who Possess: Empty Sella Syndrome ??

My Wife Breast Fed Both Our Kids Until They Were About 15 Months Old

At first She found it difficult - and got very sore nipples - but after a few days - it all worked fine.

She continued because it was just so convienient - and the natural thing to do.

But after a few weeks - because we were skint She had to go back to work.

I was working shifts - so every other week - I was Mum looking after Baby in the Morning whilst She was at work.

I used to feed Baby with Her breast milk that She had expressed earlier with a breast pump.

What I found hard to understand - was that both our Babies had absolutely no problem whatsoever in sucking milk out of their Mum's Breasts. She had loads of milk - but when I tried - I could hardly get a drop.

I guess it was psychological.

The milk was designed for Baby.

There is ENORMOUS Evidence That Breast Feeding Significantly Reduces The Incidence of Breast Cancer.

The Native Indian Tribal People, ARE NOT DISAPPEARED.... yet...cause

Whitemen, married Into the Tribes... & Civilized the Native Indians... thus, most of them, Did Refuse to Declare Their Indian Heritage... due to persecution by the government & other white people... the Native Indians are still in existence, in large numbers... but the skin is probably white.. a cover for the Native Indian Bloodlineage, & the government may not want any of the "white indians" to be Recognized as having Native Indian Ancestory.
It would be Very Interested to find the body of John Ross or any other Indian Chiefs, & DNA them... for possible White Heritage...
for that's exactly what they are...a Mixed Race ... Mixed Bloodlineage.
Some Indians show Indian & Black Heritage, but then... would there be White Heritage, in some years of their ancestory, too...
The Founding Fathers, "sent Educated Whitemen to Marry the daughters, (if there was any)...daughters of the Indian Chiefs... they married these females, before 1778 - 1780, Before the Establishment of the Constitutional Laws, & the Bill of Rights, which declared: All Individuals, have "Equal Rights" no matter, what Race, to which they belong.
Is anyone having any problem, understanding the Constitution & the Bill of Rights...???
The Montague Seal, which is on the Documents of the U.S. Government...documents, written by the Founding Fathers... is the Seal... for the
Constitution / Bill of Rights & those other documents to: STAY INTACT FOR SUCCEEDING GENERATIONS. (Doesn't that mean, FOREVER / PERPETUAL ??)
We have Yet... to Dissolve the Founding Constitutional Laws... written by the Founding Fathers...
Did those People, fight the Revolutionary War for Nothing ?? Many of you, are Their Descendants... You Are Heirs, to the Founding of American Government...at least to the Leaders of America, who wrote those documents.

Breast Cancer v Heart Disease

Approximately 4% of women will die from breast cancer. Approximately 50% will die from heart disease.

The obsession with breast cancer seems more societal than actual. Is it because breasts are such an obvious symbol of the female? Is it because breasts are such an obsession with males?

My doctor pushes me to get a mammogram every year. I refuse. There is no record of cancer of any kind in my genetic history. Yes, I still have a risk, but I refuse to get one unless he agrees to have a sonogram done of my heart for an update on my mitral valve prolapse. No sonogram = no mammogram. I consider the state of my heart much more important than the state of my breasts.

I agree about the politicization of science, at least in our country. The halls of what passes for science have connecting doors to what passes for government here. Every time a new study relates environmental factors to cancer, some screaming harpy from the halls of brand name science comes flying off the ivory tower to call that study irresponsible, incomplete, biased or stupid. The american public falls in tow, saying that anything can cause cancer, that cancer is no big deal anyway, and that we have too much population anyway, and big pharma gets richer, selling the cancer treatment protocols. Only those who have dealt with the devastation of cancer personally or in the family can understand the need for the precautionary principle.

It Did Give Me a Little Heart When My Dad's Heart Wast Tested And They Said It is As Strong as an Ox

No - Your Heart is Fine

Its The Stomach Cancer That is Killing You

And I thought Fuck

And so my Dad died at the age of 72 (He Was Still Working Full Time 3 months Earlier in a Cotton Mill- Chief Engineer)

And I thought - well he hasn't had a bad innings

He has been physically as fit as a fiddle all his life (though Completely Insanse a lot of the time) - and been a great Friend of Mine over his last 10 years

None of his kids have come close to matching him yet

Two out of 5 didn't even make 60 (and both were non-smokers)

All our family seem to be being killed by cancer

My other Brother is unlikely to make 65 - and he is well ahead.

My surviving sister has also had breast cancer

What fucking chance do - I stand - the Youngest of Beating My Dad's 72?

Well I haven't given up yet - and so far as I am aware I don't have cancer

And stopped taking the drugs the Doctor prescribed 5 years ago

(For High Blood Pressure - cos Doctors Make Me Really ANGRY and My Blood Pressure Goes Ballistic When they are Testing Me)

But when I test it myself at home really relaxed - it is completely normal

So long as I keep up the exercise and eat healthily and don't smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol for several days each week - I may be in with a chance of beating my Dad's 72 - and maybe make my Mum's Fantastic Score of 86

Can but Try

1) Make your own deodorant (men and women)
Dump a box of BAKING SODA into a bowl
Add about 1/2 that much ARROWROOT POWDER
I like to add some drops of essential oil for fragrance
Store in glass bottles
2) Remove UNDERWIRE from your bra
Take small scissors, cut tiny hole at one end of underwire
Push it out of there!

Yoplait is in the news because they're being asked by breast cancer activists to source their product from dairies that don't use rBST, due to studies linking rBST (or rBGH, same thing) to breast cancer. Yoplait issues a press release saying that they stand behind their rBST yogurt. Yoplait has an annual breast cancer research promo whereby consumers can mail in the special pink foil lids from the containers, in return for which Yoplait donates money for cancer research.

American Cancer Society Statistics

show not very much variation in the breast cancer rates from state to state. If there really are "cancer hot spots" they are not producing statewide rates that are dramatically higher than normal. The rate ranges from approximately 115 to 135 per 100,000 across the country, with a few outliers in the 140+ range.

Florida, which has 5 nuclear power plants, has a lower breast cancer rate than Hawaii, which has no nuclear plants. Washington, Oregon and California all have nuclear power plants; Washington and Oregon also have unusually high rates of breast cancer; California, not especially so. Arizona and Alabama, which have nuclear plants, have low rates of breast cancer.

I'm not saying the claim about a link between nuclear contamination and breast cancer is bogus, but the link does not show up well in statewide statistics. Perhaps the author of the article should have posted more local (county by county around the nuke plants) rates. Perhaps, also, some plants leak more radiation than others.

I understand that milk ducts are evolved from lymph nodes. Which would make them like filters for toxins - good for baby maybe, bad for mama.

The Sunday paper in Atlanta in the late 90s had, front and center, CDC Discovers Cause of Breast Cancer! They had dissected and analyzed the contents of hundreds of breast tumors and found the main element was insecticide. That news dissapeared down the drain really quick, and was never heard again. Wonder if the pesticide dealers had anything to do with it?

The Blame Genetics Crowd
Posted by: minmotstand on Oct 25, 2008 11:59 AM
Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
This is the same problem with autism. While dozens of studies, including epidemiological studies, show a link to mercury and other neurotoxic chemicals which interfere with neurodevelopment, the "experts" are solely blaming genetics.

Genetics is not a cause, only an influencing factor. Genetics are well known to moderate the effects of environmental factors such as heavy metals or pollution, some are more genetically susceptible to these toxins.

You also have patient advocacy groups such as Neurodiversity which purport that autism is just "kids acting a little different" and isn't a disease. Malarky, neurodegeneration isn't your kid being a little quirky. It's a disease, not a differing personality.

Then you have the competing interests. Chemical companies routinely hire people who are either just plain stupid and can't find a job anywhere, or are damn smart at manipulating data to fit their agenda.

Regarding autism, you have the government, CDC, and pediatric organizations who are claiming ignorance. "We know of no link!"

They cannot claim thimerosal (the mercury additive in vaccines) is toxic because then they would have to pay out families in court who are suing them. They can't say it isn't toxic because then they would be liable, and again own money. So they choose the middle ground and say there is no evidence showing a link.

However, thank God for good researchers who actually care about suffering patients. Studies are being published everyday which show a connection between diseases and environmental factors, such as autoimmune diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, and countless others.

For instance, there was a recent study which showed a significant association between heavy metals and breast cancer. The levels of heavy metals were elevated in cancerous breast tissues compared to controls.

"Increased levels of transition metals in breast cancer tissue." Ionescu JG, Novotny J, Stejskal V, Lätsch A, Blaurock-Busch E, Eisenmann-Klein M. Neuro Endocrinol Lett. 2006 Dec;27 Suppl 1:36-9.

there are many things that cause the malfunction of our cellular system.

One of the main reasons we have problems is because we don't get the minerals and nutrients our cells require for our optimal health.

The soils we use for farming have been depleted of the minerals so the plants we consume are deficient in minerals and that is where we are supposed to get minerals that are of ionic trace minerals that carry the nutrients into the cellular system.

Vitamins are useless without minerals and will just flush out without minerals to piggyback them into the mitochondria of the cells.
For your cells to perform their duty they need all 72 elements of minerals to keep from malfunctioning.
The Seas have all the minerals as they were washed out of the soils and into the streams and rivers, then into the salt water.
Marine phytoplankton is the base of the food chain and has been the food source for most sea creatures for century's. It creates 90% of the oxygen we breath, according to NASA.

Marine Phytoplankton has all the 72 elements our cellular system require but has been un-available for mankind till recently, when a man called Tom Harper from Victoria BC Canada had a shellfish farm he wanted to feed marine phytoplankton to. With a 30Million$ process he invented a way to create the spring bloom of the plankton and found out that he cracked the protein shell that kept humans from benefiting from its use.
Each month he harvest the plankton of over 200 wild species and incorporated it into a product called FrequenSea, and is now the only place we can get the (Alpha3 cmp) wild marine phytoplankton. All other plankton is grown in labs and isn;t of the wild Alpha 3CMP type.

Alpha3CMP wild Plankton has all 72 essential ionic trace minerals in it, with 400% more nutrients than any land grown plants.
I take it daily and have for 8 months, and it has changed my life (at 74) more then anything in years. Marine phytoplankton will be the answer to all humans mineral deficiency in the future. We must start to use the benefits from the Sea to feed the world in the future.

Burning Coal is death in the making
Posted by: Traven on Oct 26, 2008 7:08 AM
Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Burning coal is more harmful to human health and releases more radio active nuclei into the environment than nuclear power.

In the United States alone each year 48 tons of mercury is released into the atmosphere due to the burning of coal. The mercury found planet wide in fish populations is rained down and comes form coal fired plants world wide.

The dramatic increase of Asthma the last twenty years is in tandem to the millions of tons of coal being burned in China and blowing across the ocean and across the globe.

But that is a digression.

The nuclear power industry is run by corporate hacks that have hid for years behind the façade of progressive science advancement and the vague promise of un-limited cheap power at no social cost.

All the while, if that were not bad enough, the nuclear power industry then milks the public dry by passing on the cost of nuclear power to the rate payers who have to pay higher costs for electricity generated by coal and natural gas. To add insult to injury, then the nuclear industry goes hat in hand to Washington, and gets gigantic tax cuts, subsidies and out right support from the clowns in congress who genuflect and bow down in worship this fraud science.

In case you haven’t noticed typical of private industry in the United States the nuclear industry has never attempted to clean up its own mess but chose through in-action after decades of promises to the contrary dumped the whole problem on Uncle Sam who dug out a mountain in Nevada…

Nuclear power could be safe if and only if many, many things change to name a few:

Nuclear power generation should not be run by private industry – they can not be trusted period – just ask the insurance industry they haven’t written a policy to cover a nuclear accident ever – an educated observer should ask why.

Billions of research money must be out into waste treatment and disposal first and the nagging question of metal fatigue due to radiation creep into all the millions of parts that make up the major cooling systems on which real lives depend.

And lastly the promise of new plant design has not come through because the industry is currently trying to sneak through re-worked versions of old designs that do not address any of the metal fatigue issues and other concerns to lengthy to go into here.

There is a giant nuclear reactor right above your head it’s called the sun and it’s long overdue that billions of new research money be put there – but then that would not put money in the pockets of degenerate gilded corporate titans who have been conning the American people for decades.

By a very curious coincidence, the cancer map correlated exactly with the population density map.Is is likely to be identical to a crime map, vehicle owner location map and a host of other things. One of the reasons there was so little breast cancer pre 1945 is that it was very rarely diagnosed. By the same token, deaths for reason of heartbreak and melancholy, have fallen drastically since 1900. I would not rule out the possibility that radiation may contribute, but since cancer is now universal, even in countries without nuclear power I think the author is using to broad a brush.

According to all those wonderfull non-terrorists (freed of accusations thanks to the blessed sarah) from Colorado Right to Life, the clear cause of breast cancer is abortion. They MUST be telling the truth because they have Jesus on their side.

Seriously, these freaks out here protested the Race for a Cure because the sponsors donate to Planned Parenthood. Which is apparently horrible since they claim there is "clear evidence" that abortion is the primary cause of breast cancer (whether they have this so-called "evidence" or not) Just thinking about these wack jobs has me trembling.

My question is this- Aren't lunatics like this the reason my taxes go to building prisons and not schools? So, why can't we lock them all up already?

Breast cancer is a real heart-breaker

My 70 year old sister had a small cancerous lump removed from her breast recently. Since I'd recovered from a heart-related problem a year ago (I'm 66), by giving up on conventional therapy after thorough medical diagnosis.

I developed my own holistic therapy first by losing 95 lbs, going on a paleolithic diet, and riding my mountain bike on trails at least 12 hours a week. Plus I have used various organic supplements by the bucket-load.

I've retured to the level of health I enjoyed 40 years ago. Of course, I've always been an outside-the-box sort of person.

The point is that I thought my sister would be interested so I sent her all sorts of alternative approaches to healing and recovering from cancer. However, before long, I realized she had turned the responsibility for her treatment to her cancer doctors, completely, opting for intensive radiation therapy every day.

I had encouraged her to back off the medical authorities and take a breather to sort things out, after all there was no actual crisis forcing a rush of orthodox cancer treatments.

My sister, rather than consider anything I had offered, turned over her treatment 100% to the standard medical authorities. I do realize that each of us must make our own choices. On the other hand, if I were in her position, I'd consider myself to fortuante if someone cared enough about me to provide alternative healing knowledge and experience. Oh well.

She never told me to back off, but I saw the handwriting on the wall, and shifted to just being nice and encouraging.

I'll admit, after reading this article, now more than ever I sense I might as well let go of my sister's future. In a sense the die is cast as far as her the length of her lifespan is concerned.

So I'm hoping for the best an able to accept much less in her case. After all, I have taken responsiblity for my own health, which is working beautifully. So far, so good as far as I'm concerned!

The authorities really pushed my sister into drastic radiation therapy. I question their motives, of course. Then again, business is business!

Really...?

Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
“…it is really frustrating to me that it gets so little attention in the popular media's discussion of breast cancer.”

Really?! Nothing new here. This frustration was explained several times:

“Western science was set up and established in London beginning in the 1600s by the Royal Society, to serve the needs of the international bankers and the industrialists. For that reason, much of Western science is actually "politicized science." REASON~~~MONEY!

“The pharmaceutical companies that manufacture breast cancer drugs fund the breast cancer NGOs, so they control the focus in the popular media on finding "the cure." They would be acting against their own best interests if they identified the cause. REASON: MONEY

“He told me that for every case of breast cancer identified through mammograms, five new cases of breast cancer are caused by the diagnostic use of radiation in mammograms. It sounds like a good way, for the medical industry, to generate repeat business and large profits.” Etc, etc…

The “War on Cancer” is not unlike any other of the fake wars: drugs, crime, terrorism, etc. They are all designed to go on and on and on and on and …, for no other reason than…BIG MONEY.

Nothing surprising here, but it is refreshing to see it start to be mentioned a LITTLE more. But do not expect that it will get more than “little attention in the popular media’s discussion of breast cancer.” They (the media) are part and parcel of the corporate greed culture. They all feed on one another and are increasingly controlled by people who have vested interests in perpetuating the fraud of "The Wars."

the other cause which fits the time line

Your thesis that breast cancer is caused by radiation has some merit, being that radiation
burns our cell membranes, but “we are what we eat.” Linus Pauling is often quoted, “If we look very closely we will find a mineral deficiency as the cause of our modern diseases.” We would argue that sulfur is one of the overlooked mineral in the equation especially regarding all types of cancer.
There is a time line regarding cancer which should be considered in light of your discussion.
1860 Farbin I.G. began producing a chemical fertilizer made from coal tar. Manure had been the traditional organic fertilizer.
1930 Dr Otto Warburg proved that cancer was the result of anaerobic (without oxygen) cellular metabolism. What was not discussed in his proof was the cell membrane. The same cell membrane which becomes aplastic when irradiated. The coal tar and crude oil based chemical fertilizer are crackled at 380 degrees F. 100 F. degrees higher than the vaporization point for sulfur.
The use of this fertilizer must be factored into today’s increasing cancer rates including breast cancer.
The increase in cancer in Europe and Japan following the development of crude oil fertilizers in 1938 preceded that increase in the US cancer rates because the US didn’t start using these chemical fertilizers until 15 years later. Ezra Taft Benson, Sec. of Agriculture mandated their use in 1954.
Every nation that has adopted these chemical fertilizers has seen an increase in their cancer rates, those which did not have not seen an increase in cancer. The key is sulfur, chemical fertilizer are devoid of bio available sulfur and their use also blocks the uptake of naturally occurring sulfur which is contained in rain fall. Acid rain is not bio available sulfur.
In a study in Great Britain between 1975 and 2000, 28,000 women who had been treated for breast cancer with surgery, chemotherapy and radiation chose not to repeat those therapies when advised to repeat them when their cancer demonstrated its return. These 28,000 women, chose to take a pure crystal form of methylsulfonylmethane instead of repeating their conventional therapies.
None of these women reported a return of their cancer nor did any of them die from their cancer. The cell membrane is the key in this discussion about any cancer. If the cell membrane is incapable of transporting oxygen across its complex structure then anaerobic cellular metabolism is the result. Sulfur helps the cell membrane retain its flexibility and plasticity which in turn allow the giant gas molecule of oxygen to transported. NO intracellular oxygen mean no ATP which is where all of our energy is produced. What Otto Warburg proved with his Noble Prize work of the 1920s was when no oxygen can be transported into the cells our cells they undergo anaerobic cellular metabolism in the carbon dioxide from the last metabolic cycle which he proved as the cause of cancer.
Radiation burns our cells and they become incapable of transporting oxygen across the cell membrane.
Our cells will regenerate healthy cells if our cell membranes are healthy, thus allowing the transport of oxygen into the cells and the elimination of carbon dioxide. Dr Otto Warburg’s Noble Prize proof stated nothing about increased radiation for him to see more cancer in Germany than any of his European colleagues. The same can be said about the work of Dr. Alzheimer who observed only women “lost in their own minds” with the same coal tar based chemical fertilizers. Ammonium nitrates and sulfates have allowed all of us to be lost in our own minds.
Our Study of Organic Sulfur continues and those who believe they could be sulfur deficient are encouraged to participate ( we believe everyone who eats chemically fertilized foods is sulfur deficient.)

Brassieres & cancer

There has been some interesting research done on the almost universal use of brassieres and rise of cancer, possibly from constricting the lymph system (damn those French!). But we have not seen any research on whether this rate has risen since the introduction of the modern brassiere in the 1930s. Not all cancers result from radiation but it is surely a huge contributing factor.

Breast cancer is linked to eating animal-based foods including dairy
Posted by: Dayaan on Nov 10, 2008 3:15 PM

There is a clear connection between eating animal-based food (meat and dairy products) and breast cancer. Women who eat a vegan diet with no animal products (including no dairy products) have the lowest incidence of breast cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis, arthritis, diabetes and other diseases of affluence.

This evidence is well-documented in the scientific literature and is summarized in "The China Study" by T Colin Campbell. The Meat and Dairy lobbies don't want the Public Health System in this country to publicize this, change the food pyramid or recommend a vegan diet due to their own selfish commercial interests.
