Head coach Mike D'Antoni of the Los Angeles Lakers complains to a referee in the game against the Houston Rockets at Staples Center on April 17, 2013. The Lakers secured the last berth in the NBA playoffs before their regular-season finale even tipped off

The Los Angeles Lakers secured the last berth in the NBA playoffs before their regular-season finale even tipped off, thanks to Utah's loss to Memphis.

The Grizzlies held the Jazz to their lowest points total of the season, triumphing 86-70 in Memphis to eliminate Utah from post-season contention.

Even if the Jazz had won, the Lakers could have booked a Western Conference berth with a win over Houston.

But once Utah were out of the picture, the Lakers and Rockets were battling for a better seeding in the Western Conference.

Zach Randolph scored 25 points and grabbed 19 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who were already locked in to the fifth seed in the West.

Memphis will play the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round -- and the Clippers were trying to gaine home court advantage for that series when the played the Kings in Sacramento in their regular-season finale.

While just one playoff remained to be claimed, several teams were trying to improve their post-season position.

The Denver Nuggets clinched the third seed in the West with a 118-98 victory over Phoenix.
