Gasol ankle sprain mild but Lakers lose Farmar for month
Los Angeles Lakers guard Jordan Farmar will be sidelined about four weeks with a torn left hamstring but Spanish big man Pau Gasol has only a mild right ankle sprain, the NBA club said Monday.
Farmar underwent an ultrasound test Monday to diagnose his problem while Gasol had an MRI exam to confirm his injury was not more serious.
Farmar suffered his injury in the first quarter of Sunday's 114-108 home loss to Portland. In 18 games this season, Farmar is averaging 9.2 points, 4.4 assists and 2.9 rebounds.
In all, Farmar figures to miss about 13 games for the Lakers, returning around the time they have a New Year's Eve home game against Milwaukee.
In 18 games this season, Gasol is averaging 14.3 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots.
The Lakers are 9-9, three games behind the Los Angeles Clippers in the Pacific division. They do not play again until Friday at Sacramento and the next Lakers home game is Sunday against Toronto.
