Biden to return early from S. America for Ukraine meet
US Vice President Joe Biden has canceled a scheduled visit to the Dominican Republic to attend a meeting in Washington with Ukraine's prime minister, a spokesman said Monday.
Biden was in Santiago, Chile, where he met with departing President Sebastian Pinera and Michelle Bachelet, who takes office on Tuesday.
He was supposed to pay a visit to the Dominican Republic and its President Danilo Medina on his way home to the US capital, but a spokesman told AFP he was returning early.
Ukraine's interim Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk is scheduled to meet Wednesday with President Barack Obama at the White House.
Besides attending Bachelet's inauguration, Biden was meeting the presidents of Colombia, Peru and Mexico in Santiago to discuss the turmoil in Venezuela.
