Rove's IT Guru Warned of Sabotage Before Fatal Plane Crash; Was Set to Testify

Amy Goodman: A top Republican internet strategist who was set to testify in a case alleging election tampering in 2004 in Ohio has died in a plane crash. Mike Connell was the chief IT consultant to Karl Rove and created websites for the Bush and McCain electoral campaigns. He also set up the official Ohio state election website reporting the 2004 presidential election returns.

Connell was reportedly an experienced pilot. He died instantly Friday night when his private plane crashed in a residential neighborhood near Akron, Ohio.

Michael Connell was deposed one day before the election this year by attorneys Cliff Arnebeck and Bob Fitrakis about his actions during the 2004 vote count and his access to Karl Rove's e-mail files and how they went missing.

Velvet Revolution, a non-profit investigating Connell's activities, revealed this weekend that Connell had recently said he was afraid George Bush and Dick Cheney would "throw [him] under the bus." Cliff Arnebeck had also previously alerted Attorney General Michael Mukasey to alleged threats from Karl Rove to Connell if he refused to "take the fall."

Well, Mark Crispin Miller joins us now, a professor of media culture and communication at New York University, the author of several books, including Loser Take All: Election Fraud and the Subversion of Democracy, 2000-2008 and Fooled Again: How the Right Stole the 2004 Election & Why They'll Steal the Next One Too. Mark Crispin Miller us now in our firehouse studio.

Welcome to Democracy Now!

Mark Crispin Miller: It's good to be here, Amy. Thank you.

AG: Alright, well, we had you on right before the election, because that's when Mike Connell was being deposed. This news that came out of his death in a plane crash on Friday night, talk about what you understand has happened.

MCM: Well, I cannot assert with perfect confidence that this was no accident, but I will say that the circumstances are so suspicious and so convenient for Rove and the White House that I think we're obliged to investigate this thing very, very thoroughly. And that means, first of all, taking a close look at some of the stories that were immediately circulated to account for what happened, that it was bad weather. That was the line they used when Wellstone's plane went down. There had been bad weather, but it had passed two hours before. And this comes from a woman at the airport information desk in Akron. We're told that his plane was running out of gas, which is a little bit odd for a highly experienced pilot like Connell, but apparently, when the plane went down, there was an explosion, a fireball that actually charred and pocked some of the house fronts in the neighborhood. People can go online and see the footage that news crews took. But beyond the, you know, dubiousness of the official story, we have to take a close look at -- and a serious look at all the charges that Connell was set to make.

AG: Now, he had asked the Attorney General Mukasey for protective custody, because of threats to him and his wife?

MCM: He reported threats to his lawyer, Cliff Arnebeck, and Arnebeck -- also, Velvet Revolution heard from tipsters, as well, tipsters who also claimed that Connell's life was at risk. Stephen Spoonamore, the whistleblower who was the first -- who was the one to name Connell in the first place, also had an ear to the inside. He's also very connected. And all these people were saying Rove is making threats, the White House is very worried about this case.

Having heard all this, Arnebeck contacted Mukasey, he contacted Nancy Rogers, who is the Ohio Attorney General, and he wrote a letter to the court, telling all of them that "This man should be in protective custody. He is an important witness in a RICO case. Please do something to look after him." And they didn't respond to this.

AG: So, explain what this case is all about and exactly what Mike Connell has been doing over these last years. What does it mean to be Karl Rove's IT guru?

MCM: Well, the lawyers in the case refer to him as a high-IQ Forrest Gump, by which they mean that he seems to have been present at the scene of every dubious election of the last eight years. We're talking about Florida in 2000. We're talking about Ohio in 2004. We're talking about Alabama in 2002. He seems to have been involved in the theft of Don Siegelman's re-election for governor. There's some evidence that links him with the Saxby Chambliss-Max Cleland Senate race in Georgia in 2002. To be Karl Rove's IT guru seems to have meant basically setting it up so that votes could be electronically shaved to the disadvantage of the Democrats and the advantage of Republicans.

AG: What do you mean, "electronically shaved"? I mean, you've got all these precincts all over Ohio. They're counting up their votes. What does he have to do with this?

Said Recently Threatened by Karl Rove, Had Been Key Witness in OH '04 Election Fraud Case

Connell threatened by Karl Rove.

Connell is a "key witness in the King-Lincoln v. Blackwell lawsuit regarding fraud in the 2004 Presidential Election in Ohio. That recently revived, long-standing lawsuit led to Connell's recent deposition on November 3, 2008, the day before this year's general election. According to plaintiff's lead attorney Cliff Arnebeck in July, a tipster had warned that Connell had been threatened by Karl Rove...in an attempt to intimidate him into 'taking the fall' for Ohio election fraud not long after a motion was filed to lift the stay in that case.

"Connell had been memorably described as a 'high IQ Forrest Gump', by the attorneys for the plaintiffs in the Ohio fraud case, for his apparent penchant at the scene of "every single crime" from Florida 2000 to Ohio 2004 to the network firewall on a number of key Congressional committees to the case of the missing White House emails.

"In late September, the federal judge in the Ohio case agreed to lift the stay, and in late October he compelled Connell to give a deposition to plaintiff attorneys on the Monday before the Tuesday general election.

"Connell had been served with a subpoena to appear in the federal courtroom in Ohio at the same College Park, MD airport where his single engine plane reportedly took off from last night, on his final solo flight..."

Very Important Story, but ease up on the language

Current rating: 3    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Mark Crispin Miller is raising a very important issue, i.e. the integrity of the voting system. There are many who know for a fact that there are many, many problems. And in fact that even Obama's win was compromised.

But Crispin Miller does himself and the issue a disservice by using highly-charged language. The stuff about "crime family" might have the choir cheering but it does nothing to inform or convince ordinary people about the importance and urgency of the issue. He needs to stick to presenting the evidence, and sure, pose questions because that's also important. But please, somebody tell him to hold the language that makes him sound like a loony conspiratorist.

The Rethug Mafia does not need to eat its own - only Dems, and in Wellstone's case his whole family, get the "mysterious plane crash" treatment with them actually inside (and don't forget about the former Democratic Alaskan populist governor whose name escapes me - he was one of the very first).

There is a Land, rich and fertile and earthy and fruitful and fleshy and luscious and even delicious!!

From Queen Mum all the way down to the simple village Parson, in every ever-so-finely graduated descending Station of the life of certain "peoples", this is very well known. This Land is their Domain, their Realm, their Dominion. Many friends and allies here 'across the Pond' can 'relate' so-to-speak. This Land is prodigiously and endlessly productive, make no mistake!! Great Errors have been committed in under- or over- or "mis-" estimating and gauging and measuring these crafty Fellows All.

The Land: it has been named: "Imagination and Fancy". You might chortle; at your own peril!! Study its Analogic Effects in this Real World through our Ages, Epochs, and Periods!!

Well, the Article. Interesting facts about IT Servants and their often-times quite convenient and 'plausibly-deniably' demises, disappearances and uglier outcomes. Functions self-destruct.

But, especially in regard to the large-point type of Titles and Headings for Articles. Let us please avoid that potential for the planting of Seeds, little 'mustard-seeds' and others in that Fertile and Rich and Fleshy and ever-so Sensual and Sexual Soil.

"Intrigue": there are quite varied versions. It has long been a Pastime and Interest of Persons in the Highest of Orders. From East to West and West to East; in England, in France, in Amsterdam, in Rome and in Vienna. Intrigues. Mysteries. Shadows and Fogs. Smoke and Mirrors.

There is always a kernel, a tiny little seed involved. SOMEBODY plants it -- sometimes by carelessness, sometimes intentionally, sometimes sub-versively... .

Soil. Woman. Imagination. Man. Fancy. Always "Two to Tango".

Wild-ass Weeds grew quickly, remember, with the 9/11/01 "theorizations".

Who speaks? -- Nietzsche.

Why?

Crops, herds, families. Productions and Re-productions.

Soils produce great Foods; soils produce great Poisons. Depends on the Point-of-View. Depends on the Interest... .

So... pretty curious facts here: an IT Guru meeting up with murky forces and conditions in his social, political and economic relations.

Hmmmm.

This is the most obvious case of political murder but by no means the only one...and I am just talking about aviation "accidents" of convenience. The weather when Paul Wellstone crashed was not as described by Wolf Blitzer. We know this from a guy at that airport who went up looking for the downed plane. The FBI investigators arrived so early they could only have left for the site before the plane crashed according to reports from locals on the scene (denied, of course). Then there's Senator Callahan, a botched assassination only in the sense that his wife lived...to beat Ashcroft. No chances taken with the Wellstones. And then there is JFK Jr's accident. Look at all the RED FLAGS surrounding that one. Why didn't the FAA have an opening hearing on Wellstone when they do so on roughly half of these kinds of crashes? You'd figure a U.S. Senator's death would be a suitable criterion. The list goes on. Anyone naive enough to think that all of these are accidents as traditionally defined is just that, absurdly naive. There are no coincidences folks...at least not repeatedly of this kind. Until they are all fully and independently investigated, by people not afraid to name names and bring appropriate charges no matter where/how high the shoe falls, then our self-image as Americans is a standing joke. Until murder has been ruled out, then as far as I am concerned it is most definitely on the table. When, if ever, do we get started?

1-Al Capone's brother's great-grandson is the Senator from Chat and is considering a run for governor. If he denies it, too bad. I'm a cousin of the scoundrel pack and heard the connection from his own mouth, at age 10.

2-George Bush's great-uncle once was the second-in-command of the Chatta KKK. My dad was a member, and told me. It is a near-certainty that this group was involved in Bobby Kennedy's assassination; one of the Sirhan relatives received capital to open a liquor store a block from Klan headquarters, within months of the killing.

3-One branch of Baker family--physical resemblance to Shrub--is reputed to be financing heroin in the E TN area.

The anti-abortion comment is suspect, and probably is a bid for sympathy from pro-life forces. The "Christianist" rhetoric is a serious bid for "render unto Caesar" and a big stick to wield with fundamentalists who can be told that obedience to any authority is commanded biblically, thus the prosperity of the corrupt under Christian (or pseudo-Christian) hegemony. They are also commanded to forgive thieves, a viewpoint precious to all politicians of any party.

What's it going to take to make our politicians do the right thing?

Thousands, millions actually, here in this country are baffled almost to the point of being paralyzed. How could the German people let such evil happen? How can WE let these evil people get away with what they've done?

Mike Connell's death is big news

After a quick scan of the NYTimes today, I found nary a mention of the on-going case of election fraud in Ohio or mention of Connell's plane "crash" and "death". The "crash" and "death" seem to be highly suspect. The powers that be have a great deal to protect and have to my mind, plenty of motive and access to operatives that would and could carry out such actions. Not to mention money.

To the posters here that cannot grok the level and intensity of evil at play, why would you think for a moment that the powers that be are nice, law-abiding folks like yourselves??? Given all of the evidence over the past eight years, just for starters, they certainly are not truthful, nor are they in any way shape or form, respecters of the law.

We as a nation, are coming apart at the seams with case after case of corruption and greed.

Call your nuz outlets and tell them to get on this important story. Do something besides whining in a blog.

Information aligned with another source

Share International magazine has consistently corroberated information provided by those alleging election tampering. The source is a Master of Wisdom in Spiritual Hierarchy. Hierarchy's task is to monitor human activities and assist humans and humanity where possible to evolve in consciousness. A Master is able to see what is happening in a way beyond our current technological limits. Following is information that was provided:

December 2008:
Q. Did vote tampering take place in the recent US presidential elections?
A. Yes, but to a lesser degree than the last two elections.

Q. If so, what would the real results have been – without vote rigging and other tricks?
A. About 5 per cent higher for Barack Obama.

December 2004:
Q. (1) Does the final outcome in the US Presidential election accurately reflect the preference of those who voted, or (2) was there any corruption or manipulation which might have changed the outcome? If so, (3) which side cheated more? (4) If the results were "fixed", by which methods was it done?
A. (1) No. My information is that there was much cheating. (2) Yes, Kerry should narrowly have won Ohio and Florida and the Presidency. I am afraid it is the same old story, more expertly performed this time. (3) The Republicans. It seems that cheating by Democrats was minimal and only on a personal basis, but cheating by Republicans was pre-planned and widespread, especially with the new electronic machines. (4) Pre-programmed electronic voting systems and various other methods, cruder but just as effective - delayed postal votes, double voting, non-counting of votes, and more. Of course, the marginal (swing) states like Florida and Ohio were targeted and the machines were programmed to change every fifth vote for Kerry to a vote for Bush. However, even without "stolen" votes, Bush, like Gore last time, did in fact decisively win the popular vote which I personally prefer as a record of democratic public opinion.

Q. In view of the very suspect election results in the US could your Master please say how many Democrat votes were illegally blocked by one means or another?
A. 2.5 per cent.

December 2006:
Q. How fair were the recent US elections, which saw the Democratic Party return to power in Congress?
A. About 35 per cent were fair, which means that had they been nearer 100 per cent fair it would have been a landslide victory for the Democrats.

Q. Were the electronic voting machines tampered with, as in the 2004 US elections, to give advantage to the Republicans, but just not enough for them to win?
A. Some of them, yes, but less than in the previous election. The other methods, intimidation, etc, were well in evidence.

January 2001:
Q. Could the Master say which US presidential candidate the majority of Florida voters intended to vote for when they cast their vote? Did Bush win the election fraudulently?
A. Yes, very much so. Some Republicans think of their party as having a ‘Divine right’ to rule and that any and every trick is valid to ensure a Republican victory. The Florida vote, if it had been allowed to proceed, would have shown Mr Gore to have won by thousands of votes.

They all went down in small plane crashes, and all were a thorn in the side of the Republicans. Senator Carnahan held a swing seat in the Senate at the time (I think he was running against Ashcroft, who lost to Carnahan's widow). Senator Wellstone was an effective progressive, who also held a pivotal Senate seat. And JFK Jr. was poised to take a leadership role among the Dems.

I think all these crashes were suspicious. Someone working for the Republicans has perfected the art of airplane sabotage, IMHO.

I mean with the constant barrage of continues "coincidences" and uncanny curious expose of incidences that pop up in the wake of this corrupt administration why is it all allowed to just carry on and on without any one just say,
"That's it"! "We're going to stop all this shit here and now and get to the bottom of this pile of shit"?

THAT WOULD BRING THE COUNTRY TOGETHER

It can not be all just be coincidences. You know it. I know it, and everyone does.

But why is it just allowed to continue?
It's apparent even with Obama in office our voices are simply ignored.

Unless this country begins Accountability actions There is going to be now "HOPE " for "Change". BEcuase it can never manifest as long as the government can never be trusted.

This shit is so deep and stinks so bad, the nation is smothering in
deceit. lies, ,........................

How about the Wash DC madam?

I once met and lived in the neighborhood where the Washington DC madam lived in an old landmark Italianatte house. (They just had an estate sale last week at the place). A friend was walking by awhile back (before the news break about her)there were some strange guys prowling around her house. My freind is on the nieghborhod watch and approuced them. They said they were cops but wouldn't give her badges nor identity. The local police when asked were suprized and as puzzled. Her suicide was a very unusual one not the path that most women take. Some have said she had some very high up's on her list.

Fellow Americans the Cheney/Bush administration has turned the servants into the privilaged and we are getting fleeced and hosed. Think of all the great things you and I could have done with all that money we flushed down the toilet in Iraq. Why? To settle a grudge against Saddam who tried to kill pa.

What do you think the dems will do about it?

For all of you Alterman Liberals who subscribe to the notion that winning is more important than fidelity to Progressive values, what do you think the Obama group will do about it?
Impeachment has been off the table. Bailout of Wall Street CEOs was acted on unusually quickly (before the average congressman-or woman- could actually read it). Unchallenged crimes and sanctioned theft for their big campaign contributors. This is what the Dems have done so far-with approving echos from Obama. Doesn't look promising, does it?

Changes to the American vocabulary!

Some years ago the American vocabulary was enriched by the addition of 2 new verbs: "dixiechick" and "wellstone," as in, "If you say something bad about the Bush Administration, you could get dixiechicked, and if you really cause them problems, you could even be wellstoned." Apparently these terms are alive and well.

Wow - well, they say that absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Still unable to find an official footnote to the recent and timely death of Barry Jennings ... poor soul now relegated to the back pages of the Alex Jones infosite and such ...

Speaking of back pages, here's a recent article from a canadian newspaper with some facts that were certainly 'news' to me:

Attack on 'Truthers' who question 9/11 failed to address their issues

$2.3 trillion in missing Pentagon funds, you say?
