NC Pastor Take Homophobia to the Extreme, Says Gay People Should Be "Detained in Camps" Until They Die

Although the majority of Americans now believe that gay and lesbian citizens should have the legal right to marry, homophobia obviously runs deep among many in this country. One of those raging homophobes is Pastor Charles Worley of the Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden, North Carolina, who recently told his congregation that "the queers and the homosexuals" should be "detained in camps" and left to die.

The full quote from his sermon:

I figured a way out to get rid of all the lesbians and queers. But it isn’t going to pass in Congress. Build a great, big, large fence -- 150 or 100 mile long -- put all the lesbians in there…Do the same thing for the queers and the homosexuals and have that fence electrified so they can’t get out…and you know what, in a few years, they’ll die out…do you know why? They can’t reproduce!

The video is available at the bottom of this post. (h/t The Advocate)

Unsurprisingly, Worley isn't new to preaching anti-gay hate. The blog Good as You dug up audio of a 1978 Worley sermon in which he said, "Forty years ago, they would've hung 'em [homosexuals] -- bless God -- from a white oak tree."

A peaceful protest against Worley is being planned for May 27 at a location TBD. Watch the organizers' Facebook event page for details.
