Hilarious: "Family Guy" Mocks Tea Party, Austerity

"Peter, what did I tell you about rich guys?"

"Look, I know what you're thinking Brian, but don't worry! It's all okay! Turns out you're the enemy. They're the ones who are on our side!"

And so goes Family Guy's brilliant spoof of the ridiculosity that is Tea Party logic, in a savvy and hilarious episode that clowned right wingers, austerity practices, and corporate doublespeak. Sure, it's like shooting fish in a barrel, but it's nice to see something so mainstream—on Fox, no less—take on the corporate megaliths try to use the Tea Party to disrupt our country for their own ends. But the best parts might be the spoofs on how women are treated in these camps. When Peter's phone banking and a woman answers, for instance, he asks for the "man of the house," and "how you payin for this phone?," shedding light not just on the economic lies these corpo creeps tell, but also how little respect they have for "the second sex" (c.f. de Beauvoir).
