HS Students in NYC Call for a May 1st Walkout

This is inspiring! Paul Robeson HS Students in NYC called for a student walkoutto support the day of action/general strike for workers, immigrants and the 99%--and to fight for fairer schools policy-- on May 1st.

Occupy High--the group organizing this protest--is the perfect example of "Occupy" moving forward as a platform or prototype rather than a top-down movement. These students are moved to address the issues that matter to them in solidarity with Occupy, but acting on their own.

Here is part of their statement:

We believe that trying to control our schools is just another symptom of the blatant racism in our country similar to the government's response to the senseless killing of Trayvon Martin.

Because of this, our first action will be a mass student walkout on May 1st at 12pm to Fort Greene Park. We will be holding teach-ins, teen summits & other peaceful events.
