Unions Protest, Mic-Check Pension-Cutting NY Governor Andrew Cuomo

On Tuesday, a group of nearly 2,000 union members and their supporters met Governor Andrew Cuomo in Albany, New York to protest (and mic-check) his 2012-2013 budget proposal cutting pensions and benefits for workers (video below).

New York lawmakers have also criticized Cuomo for the cuts, and are demanding that Cuomo reach a deal with unions before the New York State Assembly will support his proposal.  At the National Institute of Retirement Security's retirement policy conference in Washington, pensions funds trustee Thomas DiNapoli explained Cuomo's plan this way:

"The bottom line is, scrapping defined benefit public pensions for 401(k)s would undermine retirement security for even more Americans, and add even more uncertainty to our economy."
