Maddow: Energy Regulators May Not Be Snorting Meth Off a Toaster Oven Anymore, But There's Still Alarming Nuclear News

Last night Rachel Maddow took us on a trip down memory lane, to the bad ol' days of the Bush administration-era Minerals Management Service. You know, the days when MMS employees routinely had sex, drank, and did drugs with each other and with lobbyists for the energy industry they were supposed to be regulating. (One noteworthy lede: "A program director allegedly snorts crystal meth off a toaster oven.")

While today's energy headlines may not be as sexy (literally and figuratively), Maddow points out there is plenty of alarming energy news happening these days. For instance, did you know that a nuclear power plant that was shut down following this year's bizarre east coast earthquake is still not functioning? And that generators for one of the plants reactors failed? Should we be alarmed? Will this story (and others) only get attention if there's a sex scandal involved?
