Who is Best? Temper Trap or The XX? (The Pleasures of Being on Vacation)

One of the advantages of being the boss is that you can occasionally indulge yourself while on vacation, and think about more trivial questions you would never consider, in the hurly burly of daily internet news. And blog about them. Like which music group is better: The XX, or Temper Trap? I was lying in bed with head phones on and listened to Conditions, by Temper Trap, and then XX, by the XX and realized I liked them both a whole lot. I don't follow music popularity so much, so I don't know where either of these bands fits into the popularity pantheon, though I did see their names pop up on the lists of bands last summer at the big music festival. But which one do I like better? Perhaps it is a kind of dumb question, like who is better, My Morning Jacket, or Arcade Fire? They are both very talented and quite different. And I do know both of those bands are now super bands. But the truth be known, I actually prefer the SilverSun Pickups, or going back some, The Broken Social Scene.

Yes, I love my music, and I've gotten in trouble a couple of times suggesting that older music listeners - boomers like myself and Gen Xers -- should be more adventuresome in uncovering newer music. I personally find so much pleasurable echos of these bands I've mentioned with music say, of the '60s and '70s. My Morning Jacket e.g. is, in spots, a wonderful re-immersion with some of the best of Crosby Stills, Nash and Young. And yes, I consider Deja Vu one of the best albums ever. But except for an occasional nostalgic trip, I wouldn't listen to CSN&Y now, or see any them in concert- Ok, I would go to Neil Young. But I might listen to the XX or Temper trap 10 times in a row. What does that mean? Not sure. But give them a try and see if they fit your tastes. And if you have an opinion as to who is better, Temper Trap, or the XX send me your vote at donhazen@gmail.com
