Did Piers Morgan Tap Paul McCartney's Phone?
In a revelation to BBC, Paul McCartney announced himself as the latest celebrity victim of the News of the World hacking scandal, and CNN's Piers Morgan might be one of the corrupt journalists behind it.
McCartney's ex-wife, Heather Mills, says a Daily Mirror journalist called her in 2001 and admitted to having heard a message McCartney left on her voice mail. Shocked, Mills says she responded "You've obviously hacked my phone and if you do anything with this story … I'll go to the police," and dissuaded the corrupt journalist from running the story.
But Morgan edited the Daily Mirror at the time of the alleged hacking, and in a 2006 Daily Mail column admitted to hearing an "apology" message McCartney left on Mills's phone, in which Morgan said McCartney sounded "lonely, miserable and desperate." McCartney says he will go to the police, and the U.K. is calling for Morgan's return to answer questions about the hacking scandal. Despite mounting pressure, Morgan continues to denounce the allegations as "extravagant claims."
