Today: Frances Fox Piven & Cornel West Headline Livestreamed 'Fight Back, America' Teach-In
The revolution will apparently be livestreamed. Today, Frances Fox Piven, the scholar targeted by Glenn Beck, and Cornel West will lead a national teach-in on "corporate greed -- and what you can do about it." The event will be livestreamed and viewed at colleges across the country (including my alma mater, Ramapo College of New Jersey).
If you've never heard Piven speak, you're really missing something. A theorist of political organizing who is both thoughtful and funny, Piven's forthright politics, creativity and keen intellect brought her to the intersection of the academy and grass-roots movements, where she's been for more than 40 years. She teaches at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.
Prof. Cornel West, the leading voice of Princeton University's Center for African-American Studies, is known for his books, especially, Race Matters, and a frequent guest on radio and television programs.
Today's livestreamed program will also feature discussions with AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, as well as Heather McGhee of Demos and Prof. Jeffrey Sachs of Columbia University.
I don't know all what will be discussed, but rumor has it that it may include a chalk board and a conspiracy theory.
