Jon Stewart on Libya War: "You Can't Simultaneously Fire Teachers and Tomahawk Missiles"

The Daily Show was in rare form last night, with Jon Stewart and John Oliver hilariously mocking the United States' shall we say selectiveefforts to rid foreign nations of brutal dictators. The Jo(h)ns came up with a Billy Mays-style informercial hawking "Freedom Packages" for countries around the world.

U.S. interventionism is serious business, of course, especially considering the ongoing turmoil in Libya. But as with all great satire, the Daily Show doesn't make light of the situation -- it makes you think about the absurdities of U.S. foreign policy. Check out the segment here:

And during Stewart's intro, he had some funny/poignant things to say about all the awful news over the past week (while the Daily Show was on hiatus) -- most notably, the new (and very expensive) combat operation in Libya, which is being launched as leaders across the country use the United States' fiscal problems as an excuse to bust teachers' unions. As Stewart says, "You can't simultaneously fire teachers and tomahawk missiles." Watch that clip here:
