To Avoid "Transparency," Are White House Officials Meeting Lobbyists "Off-Campus?"
Remember during the campaign, how then-candidate Obama vowed transparency, and that we'd know the names of all lobbyists who signed in to the Whie House's logs?
While that's still happening at the White House itself, the Politico writes that some lobbyists are meeting with the President's staff off-campus at the "Jackson Place" meeting rooms around the corner. There, the Politico notes:
The White House can’t say who attended meetings there, or how often. The Secret Service doesn’t log in visitors or require a background check the way it does at the main gates of the White House
Not everyone who spoke to the reporters felt there was an ulterior motive in meeting the staff at what are actually commonly-used overflow meeting rooms. Still, "
But at least four lobbyists who’ve been to the conference rooms just off Lafayette Square tell POLITICO they had the distinct impression they were being shunted off to Jackson Place — and off the books — so their visits wouldn’t later be made public.
