Take Action This Saturday: Pro-Union Rallies Being Held at Every State Capitol
Are you frustrated by Scott Walker's efforts to quash the collective bargaining rights of union workers in Wisconsin? Well you should be, because his success could have implications for workers -- union and non-union alike -- across the country.
This weekend, you can channel that frustration, and show support for your pro-labor brothers and sisters in Wisconsin, by participating in a 50-state plan to rally at every American state capitol building. Organized by MoveOn.org and other progressive groups and unions, the rallies will take place at noon on Saturday, February 26. Here's how the action is described by MoveOn.org:
In Wisconsin and around our country, the American Dream is under fierce attack. Instead of creating jobs, Republicans are giving tax breaks to corporations and the very rich, and then cutting funding for education, police, emergency response and vital human services. The right to organize is on the chopping block. The American Dream is slipping out of reach for more and more Americans, and we have to fight back.
We call for emergency rallies in front of every statehouse this Saturday at noon to stand in solidarity with the people of Wisconsin. Demand an end to the attacks on workers' rights and public services across the country. Demand investment, to create decent jobs for the millions of people who desperately want to work. And demand that the rich and powerful pay their fair share.
We are all Wisconsin.
We are all Americans.
Labor organizers are also encouraging individuals to attend congressional town hall meetings whenever possible to ask tough questions of GOP lawmakers and let them know that their union-busting efforts are unacceptable. “Whenever we hear about a town hall meeting we encourage them to go and ask pointed questions about what is happening,” MoveOn.org executive director Justin Rubern told The Hill.
So if you can, show your support for the Wisconsin workers by rallying at your state capitol building on Saturday. Solidarity!
