Brilliant Idea: Donate to Planned Parenthood, and Have Thank You Note Sent to Anti-Choice Congressman

It's been a rough few months to be a woman in America. Attacks on our rights are seemingly coming from every angle. The latest blow was the measure passed by the House yesterday to de-fund Planned Parenthood. Called the Pence Amendment for its sponsor, Republican Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana, the measure would ban federal Title X funding, or funding used to provide contraception, cancer screenings, and other preventative healthcare services for low-income and uninsured women.

What the amendment would not do is strip federal funding for abortion -- it can't, because federal funding for abortion is already banned under the Hyde Amendment.

Although the bill isn't likely to get past the Democratic Senate (or, if that fails, the president), yesterday's 240-to-185 vote in the House is still extremely distressing. Amid all the outrage from pro-choicers yesterday, an idea emerged to make us all feel a little better while supporting Planned Parenthood's important and necessary work: make a donation to Planned Parenthood in honor of Mike Pence.

The idea seems to have originated on the blog Mutant Poodle, and then made its way around the feminist Twittersphere:

I suggest that everyone who believes in Planned Parenthood and their mission go to their website and make a donation to Planned Parenthood in Mike Pence’s honor. And let him sift through all the thank-yous. Have Planned Parenthood send the acknowledgement to:

Representative Mike Pence, 100 Cannon HOB, Washington, DC 20515

You too can give money to support women's reproductive health while sticking it to the anti-choice Congressman! Click here to donate, and stand with Planned Parenthood.
