New HuffPo Run by Conservatives? AOL CEO Gave Campaign Cash to GOP Candidates

As Arianna Huffington attempts to assuage fears that HuffPo is about to get super centrist now that it's got a deep-pocketed sugar daddy, new information has emerged about AOL CEO Tim Armstrong -- and it ain't promising.

Armstrong has characterized his political views as libertarian, but Business Insider reports that a close source has rejected that assessment, calling him "one of the most conservative people around." Additionally, he donated $500 last year to Connecticut GOP Congressional Candidate Tom Herrmann, who said during his campaign that he supported healthcare repeal and 'fiscal responsibility' -- aka not taxing rich people. Armstrong's wife has also donated 'thousands' to Republican Rob Simmons.

Meanwhile, Huffington has apparently been backtracking on the progressive views that many of the Post's readers flocked to the site for. Raw Story:

"We don't see ourselves as left," Huffington told Politico. "And I think it’s one area where news consumers are ahead of the media, because they know that continuing to see everything that’s happening as a right-left issue is missing what’s happening, and is also making it much harder for us to be properly informed."
