US-China Talks Roundup: Reid Calls Hu A Dictator, Obama Presses on Rights

Today's all-day talks between President Barack Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao have already yielded a few headlines.

A summary thus far:

  • Harry Reid slipped and called the Chinese leader a "dictator" before backtracking right away.
  • Obama pressed Huon improving the country's human rights record saying countries prosper when they allow freedoms.: "History shows that societies are more harmonious, nations are successful and the world is more just when the rights and responsibilities of all nations and all people are upheld, including the universal rights of every human being."
  • Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said this morning that the US sought a "win-win" relationship with China--and that she herself would not commit to a second term.
