News of the Weird: Tea Party Calls Department of Homeland Security a “Liberal Hate Group”
In the Tea Party's latest bit of revisionist history, founder Judson Phillips -- you know, the guy who wants to rewrite the Constitution -- has characterized the Department of Homeland Security as its number two “liberal hate group” of 2010, mainly because of the TSA. According to Raw Story, Phillips' justification:
"It makes Americans go through a joke of a security system when they want to fly. It invades their privacy while not going after terrorists."
"And then of course, there is the infamous report where DHS ignored pressing issues like illegal immigration and Islamic terror to put out a report warning about terror from 'right wing extremists,'" he continued. "The DHS Clown in Chief, Janet Napolitano borrowed a page from the Clinton administration to try and demonize conservatives with this idiotic report."
The irony in this one's so thick it seems redundant to have to point it out, but here goes: The Department of Homeland Security, created by George W Bush in response to 9/11, is widely regarded as one of the most conservative wings of government ever created. Right wing extremists are incredibly dangerous. And number one on his list of quote-unquote liberal hate groups? The Southern Poverty Law Center, which, uh, defends people against bigotry and hate crimes. In other words: Judson Phillips still wants to take the country back to the 19th Century. Moving right along...
