Fox News Boss Responds to Misinformation Study, Dismisses Prestigious University as a “Party School”

Several days ago, AlterNet broke the story about a new study that proved Fox News viewers are profoundly misinformed. Conducted by the Program on International Policy Attitudes at the University of Maryland, the study found that the more people watch Fox, the more susceptible they are to being lied to.

Yesterday, Fox Senior Vice President Michael Clemente. who oversees the news programming, slammed the findings. “The latest Princeton Review ranked the University of Maryland among the top schools for having ‘Students Who Study The Least’ and being the ‘Best Party School,’” he said in a statement to the New York Times. “Given these fine academic distinctions, we’ll regard the study with the same level of veracity it was ‘researched’ with.”

Clemente's unscientific response felt like a perfect underscore to the findings -- a Fox-typical tactic to create a diversion and run! And ironically, while the University of Maryland did indeed rank number 19 on the Princeton Review's list of “Best Party Schools,” it's also on the Review's roster of “Best Northeastern Colleges.” Perhaps even more ironically? The University of Maryland has the third best college newspaper in the country, after Yale and the University of North Carolina. Maybe more Americans should start reading The Diamondback.
