DeMint Tries to Obstruct Senate with Bill Read-Aloud While Harkin Vows Filibuster Reform
The last few weeks of this congressional session is getting tangled up in clock-running gamesmanship, vows and counter-vows from both sides of the aisle. Here's a quick rundown of the good, bad, ugly and weird/
- The most egregious example comes from conservative obstructionist and Tea Party darling Jim DeMint, who threatensthat he will force the entire START treaty to be read out loud, wasting hours and hours of precious time.
- Meanwhile, as Harry Reid vows that senators will be back at work between Christmas and New Year's to address pending legislation, he's being accusedby Senator John Kyl of being anti-Christian. Heaven help us.
- Tom Harkin warns that filibuster reform will be on the table come January, to allow legislation to pass with a simple majority and prevent the kind of stalling, destructive tactics used so frequently by Republicans this past session.
