Media Matters Enlists Beck Nemesis
Amanda Terkel at HuffPo reports that Media Matters has hired Angelo Carusone, who leads the "Stop Beck" movement, which seeks to counteract the demagoguery of Fox News personality Glenn Beck by trying to convince advertisers not to give the show their money. "Stop Beck," along with other grassroots groups, has been successful in driving several major advertisers (including Kraft) away form Beck's show. Terkel explains Carusone's new position:
At Media Matters, Carusone will be continuing to reach out to the advertisers of both Beck and Fox News, expand the group's efforts to put pressure on the network and assist with the largerDrop Fox campaign being run in partnership with People for the American Way. "Advertisers need to be aware that they are funding a network that promotes a climate of fear and suspicion that could lead to another Oklahoma City," said Media Matters CEO David Brock in a press release on the launch of the campaign.
Combined with a new donation from George Soros and the publication of a number of leaked internal Fox emails that shine a damning light on the outlet's obvious bias, it's clear that the battle of words between Media Matters and Fox is just beginning.
