WATCH: Obama Hit By Progressive TV Ads Opposing Tax Deal
The Progressive Change Campaign Committee is today launching its latest ad against the tax-cut deal forged by President Barack Obama with Republican leaders. The ad (video below) will run in Indiana and in the Washington, D.C., television markets.
The ad, "Obama's Conscience," features a clip from a campaign speech made by Obama in Indiana, in which he decries John McCain's campaign-trail "change of conscience" regarding Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy.
Yesterday, the president's deal -- which includes an extension of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy that most Americans oppose -- hit a snag when the House of Representatives voted it down. The scuttle in Washington is that House Dems are laying down their marker for the time when they will be compelled to pass the package in order to ensure the extension of unemployment benefits to those who have been out of work for more than a year. In other words, yesterday's vote puts lawmakers on notice not to use the legislative process to make the package any sweeter than it already is for the wealthy and their Republican champions.
