NBC's "Parks & Recreation" Has New Guest Stars: John McCain, Olympia Snowe, Barbara Boxer
"Parks & Rec" is beloved by feminists and progressives for Amy Poehler's rosy-cheeked portrayal of Leslie Knope, a whipsmart, dutiful city employee who's so overcome with civic duty last season had her running for city council. It's also one of the funniest sitcoms on television, hands down—and Leslie Knope is the anti-Palin, so it's extra delicious that one of next season's guest stars is none other than conservative Senator and former Presidential Candidate John McCain. In true powerful woman form, the show has also got Senators Barbara Boxer and Olympia Snowe on deck for the next season. New York Times:
An episode shot on location in Washington will include guest-starring roles for three sitting senators: Barbara Boxer of California, Olympia J. Snowe of Maine and John McCain of Arizona. The three senators were at the Hay-Adams hotel in Washington on Thursday shooting a cocktail party scene with the show’s stars, Amy Poehler and Adam Scott.
Fans of the comedy know Ms. Poehler’s character, Leslie Knope, was elected to the city council in Pawnee, Ind., during last season’s finale, while Mr. Scott’s character, Ben Wyatt, moved to Washington to join the staff of a congressman. In the Washington episode, Ben introduces a wide-eyed Leslie to the senators at the party.
Eep! Can't wait for the one-liners. The episode will air on September 27, and this will reportedly be the last season for "Parks & Recreation," unfortunately. Best to go out with a bang.
