New Film 'Grassroots' Tells Inspiring True Story of One Ordinary Man's Unlikely Political Campaign

Based on a true story, Stephen Gyllenhaal’s Grassroots is an uplifting comedy about Grant Cogswell’s unlikely campaign in Seattle’s 2001 City Council election.  The film will be screening in Portland tonight, and in New York City on July 13.

Fueled by his love of Seattle and the monorail, an unemployed and optimistic Cogswell starts what seems to be a hopeless campaign.  The film depicts the power of grassroots support in the inspiring story of his political David-and-Goliath battle against the city’s powerful incumbent.
