Media Enabled Bush 1's Savage Attacks on Maddow and Olbermann, Yet Continue to Ignore Bush Family's Sordid Past

George HW Bush gets a free pass for attacks without evidence, meanwhile his CIA ties remain largely ignored and his son's lies about Iraq remain unprosecuted.

The other day, George H.W. Bush fired a salvo against mean media liberals who savaged his son. Soon, brickbats were flying to and fro about who said what about whom. But this mini-controversy is nothing more than a distraction from the real story: even the most animated of Bush critics on television have not gotten around to acknowledging the full, unspeakably dark  nature of the Bush enterprise. Bush41, it turns out, has nothing at all to complain about.

The kerfuffle began last Friday, when CBS ran a story on its website about George H.W. Bush criticizing MSNBC hosts Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow for edgy rhetoric and name-calling, in which he then … called them names -- specifically,  “sick puppies.”

"The way they treat my son and anyone who's opposed to their point of view is just horrible," Mr. Bush said. "When our son was president they just hammered him mercilessly and I think obscenely a lot of the time and now it's moved to a new president," he added.

Of course, this is ridiculous on many counts. First is the absurdity of the man who employed the political assassin Lee Atwater (look up Willie Horton) and gave Karl Rove his first job, whining about incivility. Then there is the way the former president glided over the snapping trash- mouths and conjurers of the Right, from Limbaugh to Hannity to Beck, who dominate and influence the media’s vast market of vulnerable and hurting Americans.  And finally, it is hard to recall criticism of H.W.’s son that was wildly inaccurate, truly out of bounds, or not reflective of the awful reality of W.’s presidency.

The real problem is not that popular media figures have gone after the Bushes, it is quite the opposite: that they have stopped well short of sharing the full story with the American people.

CBS inadvertently touched on this when it reported H.W.’s general satisfaction with how his personal saga was playing out in his golden years:

“Mr. Bush also said his own life is "very good, very private."

Perfect irony resides in that remark. One reason that the elder Bush’s life is so very good, and remains so very private, is because of the media’s failure to unearth the extent of the continuing deception perpetrated by the Bush family and their allies. The guilty parties surely include CBS itself -- which stopped asking questions when under pressure and unceremoniously tossed to the lions Dan Rather, the most visible television personality willing to dig into the truth about the Bushes.

That the bigger picture never emerged is not only the fault of the mainstream, however, but also of the very “liberals” castigated by the elder Bush. Our favorite television talking heads continue to focus on the failings of the George W. Bush Administration without providing the added context from substantive discoveries about the Bush family and their longer-term activities that would shock the nation and the world.

In early 2009, the respected publisher Bloomsbury released Family of Secrets: The Bush Dynasty, the Powerful Forces That Put It in the White House, and What Their Influence Means For America. This was the result of five years of deep research I conducted into the rise of the Bushes, into those who propelled them to the top and kept them there through decades, and their long-term and continuing grip on policy. The book contains page after page of revelations about things we need to know but have collectively missed, and about a nexus of power that shapes the American destiny to this moment.

Russ Baker is an investigative journalist and founder of the nonprofit reporting website whowhatwhy.com. His latest book, "Family of Secrets: the Bush Dynasty, the Powerful Forces That Put It in the White House, and What Their Influence Means for America," now available in hardcover, will be published in paperback this fall. Gore Vidal calls it "one of the most important books of the past ten years."

You know, kept in the dark and fed bullshit. At this point in the history of our republic, it would not matter if G.H.W.Bush was caught on film pulling the trigger on JFK. The anti-establishment cohort wouldn't be able to muster anymore of a response than to go on comedy central and do a skit.

Russ Baker is a very brave man. For anyone doubting this, look up Gary Webb... Anyone concerned with where the US is going should not flinch from examining the past. With the possible exception of Robert Parry's work at consortium news I cant think of a more illuminating and thought provoking account of US political history since the Nixon era..
Journalists like this should be a protected species

"Sick Puppies"? Look who's talking...

I find it deeply disturbing that the mainstream simply ignores the history of George HW Bush and his father, who made millions in banking and the Hamburg-Amerika Line for the Nazis. And yes, there is evidence he was in Dallas on the day JFK was killed even though Bush, contrary to all logic, claimed he didn not know where he was on that day and that FBI reports that placed him there must have been referring to "Another George Bush of the CIA".

The Bush "cartel" has been massively reserarched and exposed but none of it ever makes it to CNN or the New York Times. Even "Poppie's" central role in the Iran-Contra deals and many other crimes are completely ignmored.

It's like when some decent reporters asked Karen Hughes about Bush Snr.'s role in the BCCI scandal. She simply answered: "We don't comment on silly conspiracy theories." And that was that, vene though the Bush family's connections to that drug-laundering and terrorist-funding bank was well established.

The Bush family are part of a criminal syndicate that includes the Yakuza, suppression of revolutionary energy and propulsion technologies, the military industrial complex, drug trafficking and several prominient banking families.

MSM is not going to expose the dirty deeds of past Presidents--Particularly the Bushes as the Right owns MSM lock, stock, and barrel. I have always been convinced JFK, RFK, and MLK was all killed to send a message: Go along, be a team player, or be buried--Or, not be elected. It worked. No one since has taken a hard stand against the MIC, Wall St, the banking industry, stopping real crime but they all have helped to dismantle our rights, social programs, the Constitution--Its a sad day when our elected officials openly admit they haven't read a bill, or amendment, they have voted for. Its worse when they lie to get elected and don't understand the Bill of Rights or our Constitution, or uphold the law of the land. The ultimate truth of the unraveling of the WH over the years, and our govt., has Obama as the perfect example. Bush and his cronies committed unspeakable crimes against the State, foreign countries, and humanity, and none of them are being prosecuted or being held accountable. Its all about consolidating power, and crushing the common man. Obama looks great standing beside either Bush as he is one of them, and that is how he got into the WH.

Long before the 2000 election I had researched the Bush family, too. The information I found made my blood run cold. The ensuing 8 years bore out my expectations to a "T". There's no mystery about whence we've come or why we're in such trouble today. If this were any other country there would have been a coup d'etat long ago. I am thankful that we have more stable processes, but regret the easy manipulation of our media under the threat of this cabal.

It is amazing a man can trash the Bill of Rights and the Constitution of the USA and go "scott free". Not even a iota of complaint by Congress.

GW BUSH and his whole family are criminals dating back to when they supported HITLER before WW 2.

But they supported Israel and the Jewish Cabal in Washington has power over congress and won't let them prosecute GW BUSH.

Remember when GW BUSH's staff told him he might be violating the Bill of Rights and Constitution.

His comment. "I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ANOTHER WORD ABOUT THAT DAM PIECE OF PAPER".

That sums up the Bush's whole family about Democracy and Freedom.

They prefer a FASCISTS STATE in the USA.

Most of what Russ Baker outlines was known even before the 2000 election. That it is still kept under wraps is unfortunate. That it was not told to the public during the 2000 campaign is amazing and appalling.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

The Bush/Chaney Administration was able to succeed where Osama bin Laden failed.

Should the crimes of treason, by the Bush/Chaney Administration, be overlooked, then these crimes of high treason will be repeated in future administrations. The Allies conducted the Nürenberg Trials (in 1945 to 1949) for several reasons:

A) To make aware that these crimes were actually committed,
B) To examine HOW these crimes were able to be committed,
C) Who committed these crimes and
D) To punish the criminals.

Should the guilty not be punished, then, their Criminal Acts would be absolved and could easily be repeated. There would not be any justice.

“The true administration of justice is the firmest pillar of good government.”

Should the Bush/Chaney Administration (alleged) criminals not be prosecuted, not be brought to trial and not found guilty, then, like the Ronald Reagan Republican group, they will be glorified, deified and praised.

With ALL the evidence available: Eyewitnesses, Documents, Dead Bodies, Remnants of Death Camps, Newsreel clips, piles of clothes, piles of shoes, piles of hair, piles of eyeglasses, piles of gold teeth –COLD HARD EVIDENCE-, there are Holocaust Deniers being celebrated, glorified and believed.

So, too, these (alleged) criminals will be praised and glorified for future generations.
We will have not have learned from history –and the American society will repeat this debacle.

When war crimes are not punished this is allowed to happen. Nixon was only impeached, Reagan and Bush 1 were not held accountable for Iran Contra and their associated war crimes and treason. Bush 2 is not accountable for the numerous war crimes and treason committed by himself and his administration, and finally ‘our’ Congress needs to be reviewed in the same trial for their continued war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The whole system needs to be sorted out. It is neither a Republican nor Democratic issue it is an issue of justice.

Hey, it worked for his daddy, didn't it?

G.H.W.Asshole helped Saddam come into power, defended him from the rest of the world when he abused it, told him it was okay to invade Kuwait & then beat him up when he did.

Is it any surprise that Saddam tried to kill the backstabbing sumbitch?

How many lives could have been saved if GHWA's ambassador had said "no" to Saddam? But then, he wouldn't have had the Made-For-TV-Movie called "Operation Desert Storm".

Hard to believe that the sheeple fell for it again just twelve years later.

Sorry, but that's just not believable.

I defy you to find anyone in this country who was at least a teenager in 1963 who cannot recall, in vivid detail, where they were and what they were doing when they heard the news about JFK. I was in college at the time, and if Penn State hadn't since redone the student union cafeteria, I could probably show you the seat I was sitting in. Just as my parents could have told you where they were when they heard about Pearl Harbor. (Bush's father was probably balancing Hitler's checkbook for him when the news came in from Hawaii.)

If nothing else, the fact that Bush feels compelled to feign forgetfulness about an event that defined an entire generation is a pretty persuasive sign that he was up to something.

Ahhhhhh yes, the "liberal" media - of course "they" are only "liberal" when "they" criticize the behavior and actions of those in power!? Rev. Sun Myung Moon, the Washington Post, George Will, Charles Krautheimmer, Lush Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity et. al - are all mainstream "conservative" media people, come on - give me a break! That these people are whining - when they are controlling the levers, and not allowing opposition would be laughable but the stakes are too high! When the progressives complained, at least they really have concrete serious issues: lies about WMD's, Lil Georgie's arrogant incompetence & inability to successfully run a company or a state for that matter, Bush I and his connections to the CIA that no one has ever talked about! The fact that the Carlyle Group needs to be investigated for thwarting "our" democracy! People, these are issues that need to be investigated!

The more these people whine about power, and how they are being subjected to the torture of "socialism" - the more they are hiding and NEED to be investigated for TREASON against the People of the USA!!!

High Praise for Maddow & Olbermann

Any criticism of Maddow & Olbermann delivered by any of the Bush Crime Family should be taken as high praise indeed! As for the rest of the media, they haven't done their jobs as watchdogs of the government for a long time. News teams at one time lost money for the networks but were valued as a public service. This arrangement was disabled in the 80s as investigative news teams were slowly transformed into infotainment units who just regurgitated political handouts and the news was then expected to be profitable. Democracy is being undermined by our corporate news media with just a very few exceptions like Maddow & Olbermann.

Obama refuses to investigate and prosecute the Bushes. Yes hes a talker who sounds so secure and determined behind the podium. But that's all there is to it. A year later and things remain the same. The criminal Bush is not prosecuted, the economy is in the toilet, and the criminal wars go on just like in the days of the idiot. When confronted all Obama would say is "we gotta look ahead". He's a liar and criminal like Bush therefore he won't prosecute him. Let's face it folks, we've been lied to over and over, we've been ripped off, and forget about that change you can count on because there's no change.

FOX SWEN reliably makes journalism a urnal pill at the party theatre. It is the paramount story today, it has since, before, and through the Cheney crime spree.

Take the behind the scenes of Reagan who also had an assassination attempt, with the build up of Saddam and Noriega, a failed hurricane Andrew fiasco and 8yrs of Bush lite and that makes 20 year not counting the runup and now we have the mess and the CIA and mess seem to be synonymous throughout their fraternal prank history. So why cover it, ask Dan Rather I guess and maybe Joe Wilson...and all the newpapers and media that folded...plus it is assassination nation... the light day is hard to ignore so the "we know they have WMD's and we know where they are" has toasted our credibility for the 21st century if we don't tackle the subject.

I look at this Obama presidency thus far. It's like the left has shifted to right, and the right moved to a mental ward. Progressives are so allergic to the truth these days. Being positive is good (a great way to look forward). And so is dealing with the truth and facing it

If Obama, on top of breaking various promises, doesn't look into this he is obviously with these criminals. That's the bottom line folks!

".."The way they treat my son and anyone who's opposed to their point of view is just horrible," Mr. Bush said. "When our son was president they just hammered him mercilessly and I think obscenely a lot of the time and now it's moved to a new president," he added.
============================

I'm surprised that Rachel or Keith didn't pick up on the ludicrous suggestion that they had attacked Obama in the same manner as they picked apart the Cheney/Bush dynasty.
