We Need A National Dialogue On Afghanistan

I am deeply concerned that we appear to be getting pulled into another quagmire from which we don’t know how to exit – this time, in Afghanistan.

Without the kind of national debate this country needs, we are sending more and more troops into Afghanistan – about 60 percent of all the foreign troops in the country are now Americans and that percentage is going to go up. We have already spent several hundred billion dollars in Afghanistan, and that number too will go up.

What I am not hearing is the national debate about what our exit strategy is going to be. We have been there now for eight years. How many more years will we be there? Originally we went in there to find Osama bin Laden; we have not accomplished that. What are our goals now?

We need clarity about our relationship with the rest of the international community. How much of the burden is our country going to have to assume? What we do not want to see is, without a forthright national dialogue, tens of billions of dollars and tens of thousands of troops continue to pour into Afghanistan without knowing what we hope to accomplish.

The time is now for a major national debate on Afghanistan. That hasn’t happened. I think the scariest thing that can happen is that just, very quietly, we get sucked into a war that is a never-ending process. This is an issue about which we need a lot more clarity and a lot more debate.

The Afghan war was lost as soon as Bush diverted troops to the illegal invasion of Iraq. He and Cheney then covered up for their WMD Lies by Torturing captives to get false intel to support, you guessed it, the WMD Lies.

First, go after them for Torture.

Seems Bush and his crooks were so 'shocked and awed' by their own lies they forgot to plan an exit from Afghanistan, like jackass Bush the First who left Somalia for Bill Clinton to fix.

We Dems have seen the enemy and something needs to be done before the wingnuts destroy our democracy.

What is the logic of this?

The counter-terrorism rationale, that Obama is pushing right now, makes no sense. Even if there are training camps in Afghanistan and/or Pakistan, or Iraq for that matter, why would any would-be terrorist go there for training? They can learn how to fly jumbo-jets into buidlings right here in the U. S. A. (and they did) or in Europe or elsewhere where the bullets are flying and they can concentrate on their violent Jihadist goals. They can learn how to make bombs easily enough without flitting off to some blighted, war-torn region of the world where they're likely to get their heads blown off before they ever have a chance to blow themselves up along with as many bystander infidels as possible. Learning how to fight in the dessert or the mountains with conventional guns/rockets/knives and what-not isn't how anyone who's interested in commiting acts of violence against people in the United States or Europe would act. And surely they don't need to go to Afghanistan to plot an attack. The Taliban shoots at U. S. and other NATO troops because they're there. We're not killing terrorists in Afghanistan; we're making them.

This is the opposition?!! We have a war based on lies, a dead Osama bin Laden, we have war crimes gallore and casualties mounting with billions burned up with nothing to show for it but shame!

'A national debate?' How charming. That will surely bring an end to the eight year war. Perhaps Counselor Troy can be beamed in to moderate this national debate from whatever universe the chattering, nattering class of yapping Statist spaniels live that are so calmed by the gentle cooing of Senator Sanders.

How bold our Bernie is to fancy that "now is the time" for debate...eight years of war later...Buzz words a plenty though! Can you pick them all out?

SUPPORT THE TROOPS! TROOPS HOME NOW! DOWN WITH THE REGIME!

Why are we there? To dump our DU waste? It is a new holocaust, Bush's 'holy' war against Islam

Depleted Uranium Contamination in Hawai’i

Why nuclear energy is not the answer to Climate Change

Nor does it take into account the 'depleted' uranium used as munitions (which, despite what you might infer from its name, is actually enriched -- it is depleted of the less radioactive isotopes). That causes enough pollution to contaminate our armed-forces personnel before it's even fired! Let alone the land where it is unleashed.

Waste Management

On the other hand, if used reactor fuel is not reprocessed, all the highly-radioactive isotopes remain in it, and so the whole fuel assemblies are treated as high-level waste. This used fuel takes up about nine times the volume of equivalent vitrified high-level waste which results from reprocessing and which is encapsulated ready for disposal.

Both high-level waste and used fuel are very radioactive and people handling them must be shielded from their radiation. Such materials are shipped in special containers which prevent the radiation leaking out and which will not rupture in an accident.

Whether used fuel is reprocessed or not, the volume of high-level waste is modest, - about 3 cubic metres per year of vitrified waste or 25-30 tonnes of used fuel for a typical large nuclear reactor. The relatively small amount involved allows it to be effectively and economically isolated.

This one is long but it is worth at least skimming,

Costs and Risks of Management and Disposal of Depleted Uranium from the National Enrichment Facility Proposed to be Built in Lea County New Mexico by LES Redacted Version for Public Release (pdf)

Wow. I am kind of blown away. It looks like the secret motivation for our government to go to war is to get rid of DU. There is a very strong case to be made for that argument and it does tie into their End Times religious mythology.

Using depleted uranium munitions is a war crime of biblical proportions.

No wonder Arianna Huffington won't let us talk about the truth of 9/11. She doesn't want it to get out that the reason we are in the middle east is to get rid of our depleted uranium. That idea only works if you have a religious hatred.

Have you seen the pictures of what it does to babies? Warning: They are gruesome, it is a holocaust.

This site has pictures plus some explanations of what is actually wrong with the deformed children. Can you imagine giving birth to this?

GULF WAR SYNDROME BIRTH DEFECTS IN IRAQ CHILDREN

No wonder the first question asked is "is it normal?" Yes before asking sex, mothers want to know if their baby is a deformed freak. Here are some groups I found if you want to talk about it,

We are war criminals, we have to wrap our minds around that fact and we have to ...
