Right-Wing Militias Haven't Always Been Racist -- But That May Be Changing

There are growing signs that militias are on the rise again. This time, many of their partisans are angry at Blacks and Latinos.

In Pensacola, Fla., retired FBI agent Ted Gunderson tells a gathering of antigovernment "Patriots" that the federal government has set up 1,000 internment camps across the country and is storing 30,000 guillotines and a half-million caskets in Atlanta. They're there for the day the government finally declares martial law and moves in to round up or kill American dissenters, he says. "They're going to keep track of all of us, folks," Gunderson warns.

Outside Atlanta, a so-called "American Grand Jury" issues an "indictment" of Barack Obama for fraud and treason because, the panel concludes, he wasn't born in the United States and is illegally occupying the office of president. Other sham "grand juries" around the country follow suit.

And on the site in Lexington, Mass., where the opening shots of the Revolutionary War were fired in 1775, members of Oath Keepers, a newly formed group of law enforcement officers, military men and veterans, "muster" on April 19 to reaffirm their pledge to defend the U.S. Constitution. "We're in perilous times perhaps far more perilous than in 1775," says the man administering the oath. April 19 is the anniversary not only of the battle of Lexington Green, but also of the 1993 conflagration at the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas, and the lethal bombing two years later of the Oklahoma City federal building -- seminal events in the lore of the extreme right, in particular the antigovernment Patriot movement.

Almost 10 years after it seemed to disappear from American life, there are unmistakable signs of a revival of what in the 1990s was commonly called the militia movement. From Idaho to New Jersey and Michigan to Florida, men in khaki and camouflage are back in the woods, gathering to practice the paramilitary skills they believe will be needed to fend off the socialistic troops of the "New World Order."

One big difference from the militia movement of the 1990s is that the face of the federal government -- the enemy that almost all parts of the extreme right see as the primary threat to freedom -- is now black. And the fact that the president is an African American has injected a strong racial element into even those parts of the radical right, like the militias, that in the past were not primarily motivated by race hate. Contributing to the racial animus have been fears on the far right about the consequences of Latino immigration.

Militia rhetoric is being heard widely once more, often from a second generation of ideologues, and conspiracy theories are being energetically revived or invented anew. "Paper terrorism" -- the use of property liens, bogus legal documents and "citizens' grand juries" to attack enemies and, sometimes, reap illegal fortunes -- is again proliferating, to the point where the government has set up special efforts to rein in so-called "tax defiers" and to track threats against judges. What's more, Patriot fears about the government are being amplified by a loud new group of ostensibly mainstream media commentators and politicians.

It's not 1996 all over again, or 1997 or 1998. Although there has been a remarkable rash of domestic terrorist incidents since Obama's election in November, it has not reached the level of criminal violence, attempted terrorist attacks and white-hot language that marked the militia movement at its peak. But militia training events, huge numbers of which are now viewable on YouTube videos, are spreading. One federal agency estimates that 50 new militia training groups have sprung up in less than two years. Sales of guns and ammunition have skyrocketed amid fears of new gun control laws, much as they did in the 1990s.

The situation has many authorities worried. Militiamen, white supremacists, anti-Semites, nativists, tax protesters and a range of other activists of the radical right are cross-pollinating and may even be coalescing. In the words of a February report from law enforcement officials in Missouri, a variety of factors have combined recently to create "a lush environment for militia activity."

"You're seeing the bubbling [of antigovernment sentiment] right now," says Bart McEntire, who has infiltrated racist hate groups and now is the supervisory special agent for the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Roanoke, Va. "You see people buying into what they're saying. It's primed to grow. The only thing you don't have to set it on fire is a Waco or Ruby Ridge."

Another federal law enforcement official knowledgeable about militia groups agrees. He asked not to be identified because he is not authorized to speak publicly about them. "They're not at the level we saw in '94-'95," he says. "But this is the most significant growth we've seen in 10 to 12 years. All it's lacking is a spark. I think it's only a matter of time before you see threats and violence."

Q: What's the defnition of a racist?
Posted by: Macarthur on Aug 14, 2009 12:28 AM
Current rating: 3    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
A: Anyone winning an argument with a Democrat!

I have never posted on Alternet without being accused of racism. Often, we're not even talking about people! Last week, one Alternut accused me of racism while debating an audit of the Federal Reserve. It sickens me they way real racism is being belittled by a bunch of politically-correct middle-to-upper class white people. It's like trivializing the Holocaust by accusing anyone you don't like of being a Nazi. The horrors of slavery, genocide, and Jim Crow were real. A lynching wasn't just a hanging but a multi-day torture orgy that people, even young children, were invited to watch. It's not a subject to be brought up frivolously. Not everyone on this website is a sick freak, but some are. To those who would take the worst accusations (foreverhope yesterday accused me of being a rapist, because I didn't vote for Obama) and exploit them for political convenience, to advance their selfish agenda, I have nothing but burning contempt.

An interesting question is this: I know people who belong to far-right militias. Some are totally nuts in a harmless way, some are racist in an ugly way, some are violent and scary, some are old-fashioned bigots who wouldn't really hurt anyone, and some are just stupid. But many, perhaps most, of these folks are just good family-values Americans who, like many people on this site, fear the government. You call it fascism, they call it communism. But if they are the only people willing to stick up for the Constitution and fight for freedom, shouldn't we just accept their flaws? It reminds me of Ron Paul. Sure, one of his supporters back in 1992 wrote a racist article and Dr. Paul was too incompetent to weed it out in time. Is that really the worst thing ever? Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Vice-President Joe Biden, and Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel all voted to kill a half-million Iraqis for Oil and Zionism. Is that really OK?

My question is this: Which is worse? A politically-incorrect peace activist like Ron Paul, Pat Buchanan, or myself? Or a politically-correct war criminal like Joe Lieberman or Thomas Friedman? Is it OK to slaughter millions as long as the person who does it never uses term "raghead" or "wetback"?

OK, that was a bunch of questions.

Oath Keepers

Current rating: 3    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
This article makes some interesting points, but what exactly is wrong with the Oath Keepers again? Here are the orders that they say they will not obey (from their website):

1. We will NOT obey orders to disarm the American people.

2. We will NOT obey orders to conduct warrantless searches of the American people

3. We will NOT obey orders to detain American citizens as “unlawful enemy combatants” or to subject them to military tribunal.

4. We will NOT obey orders to impose martial law or a “state of emergency” on a state.

5. We will NOT obey orders to invade and subjugate any state that asserts its sovereignty.

6. We will NOT obey any order to blockade American cities, thus turning them into giant concentration camps.

7. We will NOT obey any order to force American citizens into any form of detention camps under any pretext.

8. We will NOT obey orders to assist or support the use of any foreign troops on U.S. soil against the American people to “keep the peace” or to “maintain control."

9. We will NOT obey any orders to confiscate the property of the American people, including food and other essential supplies.

10.We will NOT obey any orders which infringe on the right of the people to free speech, to peaceably assemble, and to petition their government for a redress of grievances.

You may think that many of these orders will never be given, and that's fine. But this is no threat of violence; it is merely a commitment to refrain from using violence in certain situations. What is wrong with that?

TREASON IS A PUNISHABLE OFFENSE! COPY PASTE SEND SEND SENT!!!
Posted by: foreverhope on Aug 14, 2009 1:20 AM
Current rating: 1    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
TREASON! WHAT POLITICIANS SHOULD BE DOING!

OBJECTIVITY: n. the state or quality of being objective; intentness on objects external to the mind; external reality.

OBJECTIVE: n. 1. something aimed at; 2. something real and observable.

OBJECTIFY: v.t. 1. to make objective; externalize.

OBJECT: n. 1. something that can be seen or touched; thing; fact.

as opposed to:

What the Conservative Right-Wing EXTREME Republicans, Blue Dogs and New Democrat (DLC) Politicians have been doing for the last Forty Years that continually gets worse:

SUBJECTIVITY: n. 1. subjective quality or state; existence in the mind only; absorption in one's own mental states or processes; tendency to view things through the medium of one's own individuality.

SUBJECTIVE: adj. 1. existing in the mind; belonging to the person's thinking rather than to the object thought of: Ideas and opinions are subjective; facts are objective.

SUBJECTIFY: v.t. 1. to make subjective; identify with the subject.

SUBJECT: n. 1. something thought about, discussed, investigated, etc.

ORGANIZED ASSERTIVE SUBJECTIVE DEHUMANIZING SOPHIST POLITICAL PROPAGANDA MUST BE STOPPED

While there is still time law and order must be legislated and enforced to regulate the use of ORGANIZED ASSERTIVE SUBJECTIVE DEHUMANIZING POLITICAL SOPHIST PROPAGANDA; this is sophistry and propaganda that is harmful to National Security; this was done to the Weimar Republic in Germany and we all know what happened there; if we in the United States do not want the same thing to happen here, it is time to act and prohibit the assertive use of ORGANIZED SUBJECTIVE DEHUMANIZING POLITICAL SOPHISTRY and ORGANIZED SUBJECTIVE DEHUMANIZING POLITICAL PROPAGANDA, as a means to exercise POWER and CONTROL by the few to oppress and tyrannize the many, by making ORGANIZED SUBJECTIVE DEHUMANIZING POLITICAL SOPHISTRY and ORGANIZED SUBJECTIVE DEHUMANIZING POLITICAL PROPAGANDA a crime of conspiracy against the National Security of the United States.

I am in no way suggesting an impingement on the free speech of individual citizens. What I am saying is that when organizations use ASSERTIVE ORGANIZED SUBJECTIVE DEHUMANIZING POLITICAL SOPHISTRY and ASSERTIVE ORGANIZED SUBJECTIVE DEHUMANIZING POLITICAL PROPAGANDA that rises to the level of a clear, present and imminent danger to the security of the United States as a nation, this type of behavior must be criminalized and punished as a treasonable offense to the National Security of the United States.

TREASON: The offense of attempting by overt acts to overthrow the government of the state to which the offender owes allegiance; or of betraying the state into the hands of a foreign power.

This thread provides evidence of treasonable offenses by a vast network of organizations who are through overt action trying to overthrow the government of the United States.

SPLC is a megafundraising machine. It will do or say anything to raise millions from gullible contributors. Morris Dees, the Bernie Medoff of political fundraising, is greatly enriched by SPLC scaremongering which is refined to a craftman's standard.

SPLC will do anything, true or false, to smear those who oppose the breaking of US immigration law and the illegal residency of millions who supplant the rights of US citiizens to jobs and adequate funding of public services.

This latest SPLC flunky found by Alternet intends to stop US citizens from exericising their constitutional rights to speak out against illegal immigration and to enforce the law, not break it.

To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

These militia assholes are NOT part of the constitution.

Are they carrying out the training discipline prescribed by congress? Are they answerable to the civil authority? Are they well regulated and hence with it the right to bear arms?

An emphatic NO!

The government SHOULD go in and disarm these cock suckers and hopefully start the next civil war, either that or get them to secede again. See Ya! Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out! Have fun in the new country of Dumbfuckistan!

We finally are getting people to rise up and unite to preserve our forgotten livng docment and the media is trying to turn it into a race issue. I hope people are seeing thru this bull and are sensible enough to realize that this country has been heading towards a revolution for many years now. The politicians of this country are destroying our economy and when it collapses, it won't matter if Obama is Black, Yellow, or White. I just wish the majority of Americans were smart enough to realize that we can't create 100 trillion dollars to pay for all of our promises and debts. It's fiscally impossible! Wake up!!

Don't know what you are arming yourself for, but both the VA Tech killer and the guy who unloaded in the gym bought weapons legally. What is your point? We give driver's licenses to drunks because in a free society you have the right to prove yourself a danger, before we limit your rights. Does that mean the person like the woman who killed people while driving drunk the wrong way on the highway isn't a killer, no it doesn't. I never wanted a gun, never had any need for one. But you know, maybe it is time for me to rethink that position. I should be prepared for the the possibility I will meet someone like you armed to the teeth. And I should assume you are armed because you intend to kill someone. What a wonderful world we live in, now everyone is either a target or an assassin. Does everyone feel safer now?

What were the rights of all those men wrongfully convicted . . .
Posted by: Walks-in-Storms on Aug 14, 2009 7:52 AM
Current rating: 2    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
"If all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind." — John Stuart Mill

What should all of the innocent men wrongfully convicted by a nation drunk on feminist ideology and rhetoric have done when attacked by their country? If a man should somehow find the power to resist with massive force - a nuclear weapon, or a biochemical agent, for instance - what ought he to do? Faced with execution by his government and the special interests - the tyranny of the majority, someone has called it - what should he do?

What WILL one do when finally that comes to pass?

I know some of the answers, because the United States of American destroyed my businesses (not once, but twice), broke up my marriage and family (not once but twice), then took steps to assure that I would never again be gainfully employed. During the 15 year war, I was burglarized more than sixty-five times, stopped, searched, mauled and harassed more than 110 times on the nation's streets and highways; my property was stolen and destroyed, I was run down by cars and vans as I walked and rode bicycles (that after motor vehicle travel had become too dangerous), and much, much more.

I was finally and for nearly ten years driven to the wilderness and living there.

I had never been, nor ever was, nor ever have been, charged with any kind of crime or misdemeanor (that mostly due to my preventative tactic of recording or video-taping all communication of any kind with government - lying cops are a rule, not an exception; they are trained to do it).

What should I have done? What I did once I had returned from the woods was retaliate. As I have related in a book published several years ago and in the lawsuit which I file regularly for the purpose of preventing toll of applicable statutes of limitations, I began resisting, even mauling cops using judo waza while recording each incident.

Wearing a licensed pistol openly, I defied three cops in Raton, NM. Since high school something of a legand with weapons including firearms, I confronted the men insisting on "searching" (i.e., trashing under the pretense of lawful inquiry), with the threat of sudden death. "You know who I am, and what I can do," I said, "and you know that if you start something here, you will all be dead before the first of you hits the ground. You know you're in the wrong and you know I am recording this. What do you want to do?"

I'll leave to the reader what they think happened (a week or so later, I received a Christmas card from one of the State Troopers there that night).

A lot of people in this nation, experienced in real life and all the theorizations and ideology to which it relates only by television, the newspapers, and their own raving rationalities, need to face their government in its Freudian "Id."

This nation is - up front, in the eyes of the whole planet - governed by the most vicious, avaricious, kill-crazy (have you watched, for seventy years as I have, the news of war after war after war, all initiated by this government?) corporations ever formed. They have demonstrated again and again and again - from Love Canal, the Ford Pinto, experimentation on its own people, "waterboarding", and hundreds more the like - that they will literally stoop to anything and stop at utterly nothing.

They will arrest, convicted, and "execute" - it means kill - you on the say so of an ideology-crazed women. They will send you to prison on the say-so of a dog.

"Government is not reason. It is not eloquence. It is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a terrible master." George Washington.

In practice, fascism and communism and despotism are all indistinguishable.
Posted by: gunboat diplomat on Aug 14, 2009 8:25 AM
Current rating: 4    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
In all cases, government becomes a series of fiefdoms, with the most clever manipulator at the top of the food chain - Hitler and Stalin were entirely alike in that respect.
The common theme is the mega-corporate nature of both communist and fascist financial and industrial systems. Rather than a hundred firms competing with one another, there was one firm.

Is this in fact precisely the situation that the Republicans attempted to engineer? Did they back it up with an aggressive military policy aimed at creating the "New American Century"?

Yes and no. On one hand, this past Cheney-Rumsfeld era was simply a more radical and violent version of the agenda of "informal empire" which has persisted since the end of World War II. On the other hand, there's little doubt that they would have pushed it all the way to real fascism if they could have, although I always thought Cheney was more partial to the Saudi style of autocratic rule, personally.

The behavior of the U.S. since WWII is more like "Informal empire, which is not exactly fascism, more like colonialism or monarchism. In the old days, British Royalty owned a sizable stake in the economic activity of the day, just as the Saudi Royal Family does in the oil business today... but is that fascism? Quite similar, maybe - but it clearly is NOT democracy. Our arrangement with the Saudis and many similar nations is in direct opposition to our stated democratic principles - which is called hypocrisy, the most notable characteristic of the "informal empire."

The brownshirts, by the way, were rounded up by Hitler's clean-cut SS and "disposed of" as threats to public order - which would be the same fate of the "thugs and hooligans" under a clean-cut, fascist, law-and-order type authoritarian Republican regime - and the prison camps would be privatized.

So, don't think that the fascist - communist - monarchist beast won't continue to appear at different places around the world, everywhere where democratic principles are struggling to take hold or be preserved in the face of endless ignorance, idiocy, greed, hate, etc... even here in the USA.

But don't forget, either, that the real fascist threat comes not from thugs in the street but rather from giant corporations in secret alliances with cunning political groups, aka “public-private partnerships”. The former is a tool, but the latter is a user of tools.

Those giant corporations are the common theme that connects Nazi-era fascism to the present day - but it is not about racism so much, anymore. For example, can one see Condoleezza Rice getting very far in the Nazi heirarchy? I don't think so.

because I can assure you none of these militias are planning on coming into the hood. First they know their enemy is armed and not afraid to shoot them first. So, their targets will have to be those people who will not be protected by their neighbors. The mass media will probably not report these incidents just as they don't report it when the police assassinate innocent Blacks. Like the story a couple of years ago of the middle-class Black man who was shot in the head, by a Georgia trooper, while on his knees in a routine DWB (driving while black) stop. He was killed in front of his friends (all professional family men). That story never made the national news. It was spread throughout the internet between blacks. These black professionals who have decided to move into integrated neighborhoods will be the victims of these militias because they are largely unprotected. And their neighbors will not want to be involved, because they aren't black or the targets. And secretly many of their neighbors will feel if they had stayed in their place they wouldn't have been killed.

What eludes these people about the fundemental workings of our gov't, as perscribed by our Founders?
What did a Territory have to concede to be granted Statehood? Alliegence to a Constitution?
Someone Show me the other 12 Declarations of Independence from the other 12 Colonies to King George (the Third of England, not the W of the USA). Oh you say there aren't 12 other Declarations? Well then that means those 13 colonies agreed to some guiding principles and were working in UNISON under one Creed.
Federal Trumps State, because if there never would have been a Incorportion by these colonies there never would have been a country.Vermont could not have 'gone it alone', nor any other. At best, We'd be nothing more than the loosely bound European Union!
And they damn well know this since their panties are in a Twist about the Federal Law that legalized abortions since '73!
Gov Perry wants to Succeed from the Union- well then Sir all you need to do is Denounce your statehood and profess your Treason. In fact hold a rally with posters saying 'Death to America'- it would be the finishing touches on your "Guns and God" 'Christian' Taliban image. Hell stop worrying about the Terrorist sneaking in through Mexico- they already reside in TX, and a majority of the South!
Don't bother with Jon Stewarts generous suggestion of "Jesusland" for your new fledgling nation-Obviously, You can't comprehend those lofty idealic concepts either.

They seem to think that they are somehow the militias referred to in the Constitution and that they are doing their civic duty? The National Guard of this nation was established to fulfill the role of the militia under our Constitution, and was only to be called up in defense of the national interest as support for the Regular Army - a small detail BushCo chose to overlook when sending them to Afghanistan and Iraq, over and over again. They were meant to serve under the governor of each state to meet state needs and were not suppose to be deployed overseas except in the case of something along the lines of a global war, not a war for profit or power grabs.

These groups are nothing more than thugs who have bought the NRA line about gun control (which ironically is usually pushed through Congress by Republicans during Democratic Presidencies); racist/hate speech by ignorant and very dangerous personalities; and who regularly and religiously vote against their own best interests in every election from local to national when they even bother to vote. These people have no understanding of their rights or their responsibilities as American citizens, nor do they even understand the Constitution or its intent.

These organizations may call themselves Patriots or Constitutionalists, or whatever, but they are neither militias nor civic groups by any definition. These are people intent on the systematic dismantling of the United States, and if it serves the Republican Right and Corporate America to play on their stupidity, we had all better be prepared for a great deal of violence in the near future.

With the wars and occupations getting worse, the economy getting worse, Washington refusing to restore civil liberties, etc ... it's no surprise that gun sales and militias have been on the rise. Between the gun nuts and the Obama fundies, both of them suck and can knock each other out for all I care. Both are totally ignorant of the current system that is killing them and instead turn to lousy debates on social issues such as race, abortion, same sex, guns, etc ... What needs to happen is leveling out the playing field for all races and that includes getting rid of all affirmative action whether we're talking class, race, gender, etc ... Until more people pay attention to the pols on more important issues such as the economy, environment, trade, agriculture, foreign policy, etc ... and put aside the social differences more often, the wars between the race baiters and the gun nuts will continue.

The Libertarian Paradox
Posted by: desidid on Aug 14, 2009 12:38 PM
Current rating: 4    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Many people who comment on Alternet state they are followers of Ron Paul and libertarian. Apparently libertarian no longer means free will. If we look back to a recent event, the arrest of Professor Gates and follow some of the posts regarding his arrest, we will find that many so-called libertarians felt Sgt. Crowley was well within his rights to arrest Gates. The reason given was that Gates wasn't sufficiently respectful of someone swore to uphold the law.

I can't say for sure, but I have yet to see a post by these people calling for the arrest of those persons at town hall meetings (a public forum) being arrested for not showing sufficient respect for those charged with writing the laws.

The only differences between Gates and these libertarian Americans at town hall meetings are this; Gates was in his home and was well within his rights to argue with the cop, these town hall libertarians are in a public place arguing with House and Senate members who make laws, Gates is Black, town hall dissenters White.

So from my vantage point libertarian has come to mean white entitlement. You see, those of you who have advocated against Gates rights but, for the town hall hooligans the veil has been lifted. You don't believe in the right of the Black individual in their home when confronted with White authority, but you damn sure believe in the right of the White individual to show their ass in public, especially if the White authority is seen as spreading the word for the Black head of state.

Time to take your hoods off and show your true selves. The only people you are fooling in proclaiming an unbiased libertarian stance is yourselves.

I haven’t been in a bar in quite a while. Yet when I look at the comments on this thread, with some exceptions, it sounds like what I had to get used to in order to associate with drunks.

If militias keep men from getting inebriated from alcohol by getting them drunk on visions of heroic deeds, I might go back to drinking. I suspect, however, that drinking goes along with the boasting of patriotic loyalties. I guess I just don’t belong anywhere.

Why is everyone ignoring 9/11 and the Truth?

I mean, just a little while ago every single thread was loaded down with 911 Truthiness - but where did they go?

Bombs were placed in the World Trade Center as part of a neocon plot for global domination - right? What happened to that theme?

Now, it's all about the plot to... to what? Set up "socialist health care"?

What about the flight into the Pentagon? Did it exist? Did it not? Why isn't Dylan Avery going on Democracy Now! to demand that the Obama Administration "reopen 911"?

In fact, where did all those reopen 9/11 advertisements go? Where is the 9/11 Truth Committee? What happened to the dozens of sites, the eager advocates?

Why aren't 9/11 TruthSayers flooding town hall meetings and public events the way they were just a few years ago?

What happened to the "great protest movement"?

Or was it just a manufactured PR campaign put out by the Whitewater crowd in order to smear anti-war protestors?

Welcome to the Propaganda Nation - and if you haven't figured out what a "strategic deception operation" is by now, then there's not much help for you.

Try this:

Good article.Yes Ruby ridge and Waco were examples of government out of control. These committed under a democratic president.
What was worse for me was the transfer of wealth out of Americans hands to the big banks on Wall Street. That to me is cause to go buy a gun. This racial issue is blindsiding all of us.to what really is happening. The SPLC is very one sided and sees race in everything. That may have merit, but you never hear them discuss with alarm the big bonuses going out to the Goldman Sachs crowd.et. al.
Make no mistake. Militias are not the problem, It is the constant bail outs by the American Taxpayer the big banks. The drain of our dollars.

There's A Bad Moon A-Rising!

(John Fogerty)

I see a bad moon a-rising.
I see trouble on the way.
I see earth quakes and lightnin'.
I see bad times today.

Don't go 'round tonight
it's bound and take your life,
there's a bad moon on the rise.

I hear hurricanes a-blowing,
I know the end is coming soon.
I fear rivers over flowing.
I hear the voice of rage and ruin.

Don't go 'round tonight
it's bound and take your life,
there's a bad moon on the rise.

Hope you got your things together.
Hope you are quit prepared to die.
Look's like we're in for nasty weather.
One eye is taken for an eye.

Don't go 'round tonight
it's bound and take your life,
there's a bad moon on the rise.

Just a bit of Irish history.

We were taught in hedges by teachers that would be hung for giving us that service. We learned Latin, Greek, the use of our own language was a punishable offense.

We were persecuted because of our fine ways, our spiritual beliefs, and because they could use one of the most beautiful natural resources on God's green earth. During the Great Famine oh, the misery, the misery, green face. My mother told me people died on the side of roads with green mouths from eating grass. A great cousin in her 90's told me stories about the great pits to body the famine victims. The bodies poking up from the earth. If you go to Ireland and see beautiful fields untouched, unused and most often unmarked, those are the famine graves. The Brits would have taken our rocks & stones if they had been worth anything. Our people were not allowed to fish, punished for fishing in our waters, imprisoned, while starving.

My book, my book, this was to be my book. I have a reason to tell you. Hold on.

We learned and we remembered and we rose up every single generation did with pitchforks, kitchen knives, small pistols sharing bullets! Half starved! Worked nearly to death! We were in ways most people are very unaware of, there are endless endless stories to tell.

Our families were terrorised tortured, raped and murdered before our eyes. Our youth were dragged behind wagons in front of their own mothers to be hung in the town square. Women and children were sent into the hills for protection against them.

I know because I've been to Ireland and met a few of those old folk. It is said in Ireland that 100 years ago is only yesterday.

The Irish Uprising of 1916 is the most remarkable part of Irish history IMO! They were teachers, poets, students, farmers, labor organizers definately socialist (search Limerick Soviet Republic of 1919) My mother was born in Limerick City as those events were unfolding. God! My grandfather was a miserable part of that. He was a god awful demon burning, burning.....

Women! Irish Women! From those the most educated and of the most upper class to the prostitute! No one stopped fighting!

But they knew they wouldn't win. They knew they were dead men those heros of the Uprising of 1916. They had to do it. They had to take a stand against the greatest most powerful country on earth that just happened to be their neighbor. Offer up slaves. Chain them, deport them. Chain them in the bottom of boats, sent to aus., for 'stealing a piece of bread from the masters house.' I lie not.

I visited the prison in Dublin where these heroes were imprisoned and eventually executed. I saw and stood where they died. I stood on the cobblestones of the prison where Irish women gave birth, babies and children died there and were buried right under my feet.

My point, finally, is this.

We just never give up.We never cave. We have no options but to fight, fight fight! None of us will give up. We have absolutely no reason to fear or give up anything!

I needed to say that to you. We are going to need lots of courage now I think more than ever. We have no options. We're a young country! We have lots of work to do!

"I look forward to a great future for America - a future in which our country will match its military strength with our moral restraint, its wealth with our wisdom, its power with our purpose."

"History is a relentless master. It has no present, only the past rushing into the future. To try to hold fast is to be swept aside."

"Forgive your enemies, but never forget their names."

"Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country."

President John F. Kennedy

Come on guys, try harder.. this propaganda is easily de-bunked after 10 minutes of poking around..

Besides that, nobody really cares who or what the SPLC is.. and next time send a hot girl to deliver your orchestrated message.. sending the creepy little man with the carnuba wax hair helmet was an epic fail.

Seems sorta silly to worry about rightwingers' militias... weekend warriors really. I'm sure they buy their'Field and AMMo' and 'Soldier Of Fortune' magazines and play soldier on the weekends.
Whatever happened to fishing?

But maybe everyone should have their own militias... the Barber Militias? the Rabbi Militias? the Storeclerks-with-attitudes Militias?

I think if I had my own militia I wouldn't be so worried about theirs. Hence, my desire to start a punk&ska militia... we'll get together once a week to use Coldplay's cd's for target practice.

A MICHIGAN MILITIAS RESPONSE TO SPLC MILITIA REPORT
Posted by: Weapon M on Aug 17, 2009 11:00 AM
Current rating: 1    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
A Michigan Militia's Response To The SPLC Militia Report

Headquarters, Southeast Michigan Volunteer Militia 13 August, 2009

In response to recent panic-driven news reports concerning the growth of "racist, anti-government, right-wing militia threats" to The United States, we offer the following:

Next month, September 2009, will see the fifteenth anniversary of the founding of what has become the Southeast Michigan Volunteer Militia (SMVM). I have been an active participant in this unit since its inception. If I had been involved in anything illegal in these fifteen years, would I not have surely been arrested by now?

Before anyone takes the word of any paid employee whose very job is to distort truth and fabricate lies in order to garner support and funding for his organization, one should ask the subjects of these reports what they actually think. No free thinking person enjoys having his ideology or belief system assigned to them by anyone. Readers are invited to visit our web page at www.MichiganMilitia.com, and our social networking sites, so they can read all about our "ideologies" for themselves, and make their own informed decisions about who we are, what we do, and what we represent.

We deeply appreciate efforts by some of the folks at CNN who contacted us and actually asked for our input about a report regarding "the militia". This was a pleasant surprise. We encourage all news organizations, when presented with a one-sided report, such as the one furnished by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), to contact the groups in question, and at least make an effort to be fair and open-minded about things. If you are going to report about "the militia", then shouldn't you at least ask some "militia" people about it?

The SPLC, in what may probably be a very successful fund-raising endeavor, recently raised an alarm about the growth of "right wing militia groups". We can appreciate the recognition of the recent growth we have experienced, but would like to clarify the reasons behind it.

Any simpleton can claim that this group or that group has grown in response to the election of America's first African-American President. The fact is, militia groups that we know of care little for whatever color The President's skin is. We care far, far more that he, along with every other government employee, upholds his or her oath to support, uphold, and defend The Constitution.

No, we are not concerned about The President. He is, after all, merely The President. As such, he cannot pass a single piece of legislation, nor can he rule on even one issue before The Supreme Court. Our Constitution provides an excellent system of checks and balances that prevent this, or any other President, from growing too powerful, or assuming to much control over the lives of American citizens.

However, when multiple branches of government seem to be acting in an effort to establish control over the productive energy of a free people, then said free people have cause for alarm. This is not an extreme view, it is a factual one. No American wants to be told what to drive, where to seek medical help, how warm they can keep their house, or even how effectively their toilets are allowed to flush. No American wants to be told that he cannot own the most effective means of protecting his or her own life, or the lives of his family. No American wants to be told that he must work longer hours to pay more and more of his check to support an over bloated government bureaucracy.

MICHIGAN MILITIA RESPONSE (CONTINUED)
Posted by: Weapon M on Aug 17, 2009 11:01 AM
Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
No, Americans want to go to bed at night, after a day's work, and some chance to enjoy the fruits of their own labor, confident that our government is doing the job of protecting individual liberty from aggression, theft, or fraud. Americans want the promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness restored and protected. We don't need to have every facet of our lives micromanaged down to the finest detail.

But there are people at every level of government who somehow think it is their divine right to interfere with, tax, regulate, and confiscate every single aspect of working Americans' lives. This is shameful, and it doesn't have to be this way.

But this is not the only issue causing the very pleasing and expected growth of pro-freedom militia groups. The threat of terrorism or disaster will always loom over our heads. Crime is a constant concern for many Americans. And while the threat of invasion seems at best a very distant, remote one, we would like to help keep it that way.

Americans are becoming more and more involved in militia and other preparedness training not out of fear or hatred, but out of a sense of civic duty and responsibility. We are doing this not because we are angry, but because we care about this great nation, because we care about individual rights and responsibilities, and because we care about each other.

It is easy to demonize someone with whom you disagree with labels such as "Nazi, White Supremacist, racist, extremist, hate-monger, or anti-government." It is especially easy to do so when you are employed by a discredited far left-wing organization whose very existence depends upon frightening people into sending donations. An organization where Logic is an Enemy and Truth is a Menace.

The very idea of lumping us in with Nazi's and White Supremacists represents a total conflict of ideologies. Nazi’s are statist collectivists and by nature crave a supreme leader to follow, while we, as freedom loving Constitutionalists, uphold the rights of the individual to live free and for themself. Our members and their families represent various cultural, religious and racial backgrounds. This does not sit well with White Supremacists or racists. And being Constitutionalists, we are a pro-constitutionally limited republic form of government our founding fathers established, and anti-corruption of that form of government.

Militia people all across this country spend their own time, energy, and money on supporting this cause, the cause of American liberty, the cause of personal rights, the cause of freedom; freedom for everyone, regardless of race, creed, color, tint, or hue, religion (or lack thereof), or political views (or lack thereof). We do not get paid to do this.

Ask Mark Potok or Morris Dees how much they get paid to "report" on us, and you might get a different answer. Then you can decide for yourself.

Where was all of the paranoia between 2001 and 2008?...You know, when the government was actually doing some of the stuff the conspiracy theories are saying?

TREASON IS A PUNISHABLE OFFENSE! COPY PASTE SEND SEND SENT!!!

Try this:

Our leader is no dummy, he is street wise. The trillion dollar medicare plan will be paid for with Chinese money. Americans should take the benefits and keep their mouth shut. Let the Chinese worry about getting their money back. Call it wisdom learned on the back streets of Chicago.

Kennedy

Congress was adressing the growing number of militias in the 1990s and one of the "leaders" was black... there is old c-span footage on google video that is easily found.
