The father of Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) claimed Sunday evening that a hacker posted a pornographic photo on his Facebook.  Rafael Cruz, known for outlandish right-wing comments, issued an apology for the photo going up, as Talking Points Memo reports.

“Someone hacked my account and posted a pornographic picture on my Facebook. I have already deleted it and sent a report to Facebook. I sincerely regret this and apologize for this incident, which occurred without my knowledge or consent,” Cruz wrote.  It’s unclear what the content of the photo was.

You would be forgiven if you didn’t buy the “hacker” claim, though.  Other politicians in the public eye caught for suggestive photos have also made similar claims, though it’s possible Rafael Cruz--not a politician, but the father of one--is telling the truth.  When photos of Anthony Weiner’s penis first showed up, the former Congressman claimed that his Twitter account, which is where the photo came from, was hacked.  Former Congressman Christopher Lee, who ultimately resigned over sending a topless photo to a woman he met on Craigslist, also initially claimed his e-mail account was hacked.

Cruz has garnered attention in the past for his right-wing comments about President Obama.  In September 2012, Cruz, an evangelical pastor, said that, “We need to send Barack Obama back to Chicago. I’d like to send him back to Kenya, back to Indonesia.”
