The Wild Stuff that Makes Its Way Around the Internet

By The Masher, AlterNet. Posted September 23, 2008.

You won't see this stuff in the mainstream media.

Apologies if you have already received via e-mail these two items, which have made their way around the Internet, reaching no doubt millions of people. They represent a digital version of an underground communique system that's too risque (or just plain brutally on target, and always opinionated) to be posted or printed in the above-ground version of the media . But the Masher believes in Sunlight.

Enjoy, and thanks to the people -- you know who you are -- spreading around these brilliant commentaries like prairie fire.

Subject: Not Spam -- Important Business Offer!!!

Dear American:

I need to ask you to support an urgent secret business relationship with a transfer of funds of great magnitude. I am Ministry of the Treasury of the Republic of America. My country has had crisis that has caused the need for large transfer of funds of 800 billion dollars U.S. If you would assist me in this transfer, it would be most profitable to you.

I am working with Mr. Phil Gramm, lobbyist for UBS, who will be my replacement as Ministry of the Treasury in January. As a Senator, you may know him as the leader of the American banking deregulation movement in the 1990s. This transaction is 100% safe.

This is a matter of great urgency. We need a blank check. We need the funds as quickly as possible. We cannot directly transfer these funds in the names of our close friends because we are constantly under surveillance. My family lawyer advised me that I should look for a reliable and trustworthy person who will act as a next of kin so the funds can be transferred.

Please reply with all of your bank account, IRA and college fund account numbers and those of your children and grandchildren to wallstreetbailout@treasury.gov so that we may transfer your commission for this transaction. After I receive that information, I will respond with detailed information about safeguards that will be used to protect the funds.

Yours Faithfully,

Minister of Treasury Paulson

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.....

* If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."

* Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, a quintessential American story.

* If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

* Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

* Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

* If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.

* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

* If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

* If , while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant , you're very responsible.

* If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.

* If you're husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

OK, much clearer now.!!

Digg!

Brilliant. Congratulations. Mainstraim media has brainwashed most Americans for many many decades. Alternative sources should unite and work together to end the unfortunate US dictatorship ruled by big money disguised as democracy (the men behind the courtain in Zeitgeistmovie.com.

I love your comparison list at the end. It's amazing how simple facts can be so powerful , even against the most skilled liars and propogandists, and M & P are not very skilled. What is scary is that both of them believe they are telling some kind of truth. Anytime one has to go through layers of ideology and dogma, and whatever the hell else they go through ( oh, thats right, conservatism, morally "superior" to us, because "god"
tells them to tell us how to behave right? All of this of course doens't apply to them, they are simply here to show us the way, not be the way. That really cracks me up about Palin, every one of her talking points is exactly the opposite of what happens in her personal life. Boy , you really have to hand it to people who preactice what they preach dont you? Pleasemake these embarrasing goons go away. O MG, i dint realize there were still people out there like this awful woman. At least McCain has thwe excuse of the onset of dementia, and it very obvious thats what a big part of his problem is. I'm not being sarcastic either, the man has lost it, and its just so sad to think thats the best the republicans could come up with for the highest office in the land, some aging old has been pow hero, and some irritating religious nut from tim buc two. Hey Palin, I've been talking to God all along baby, and he's pretty pissed that you won't give women freedom of choice with their own bodies. Whos gonna pay for all of these unwanted children?, God was just wondering? Life is not very sacred when , because of your ignorance disuised as religion, you allow even more suffering to take place with unwanted and defective babies being born...If there is a heaven like you believe so much, then why the hell didnt you let these babies go up there right away and join god, instead of subjecting them to a lifetime of pain and suffering and hell here on earth? I think you must work for the devil MS Palin, either that , or you're so full of it, its coming out fo your skin pores. Lets see, lets NOT tell kids anything at all about sex, and then , when they make a mistake, we force them to live with it the rest of their lives, wow, good job Palin, I dont think God likes you very much sorry, he's actually a lot more compassionate than that. you know what i really think, i think you're a flat out liar, thats what i think, because any truly spiritual person would not be spouting off like you are.You are one of those imposters, and deceivers that Jesus warned us about. and you're not even that good at it , thats what sucks about you. you're a hick, and any city person would eat you up, go back to alaska where you belong.

For the most part I agree

Except:

"If , while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant , you're very responsible."

Well, actually I agree with all this, except bringing in the pregnant teen daughter and implying that this is irresponsible. Because really Palin's daughter's sexual life has nothing to do with her. The daughter can do whatever she wants with her body, including, getting pregnant, it is none of her mom's business. Yes, I know you are trying to highlight the fact that if it were Obama's teen daughter that were pregnant the right would be all over it like flies on crap. But I think that even more reason for the left to refrain from bringing Palin's pregnant daughter into the conversation at all.

We all know that these people are the ultimate hypocrites. We all know that they would be raising hell if the situation were reversed (if it was one of Obama's daughters) Still, I think the only points we should be making in regard to Palin's pregnant daughter, is that if anything it demonstrates the need for comprehensive sex education, better health care - especially for women and pregnant mothers, and ensuring that women have the ability to choose what to do with their own bodies...i.e. Palin's daughter got pregnant, she chose to keep it, thus we need to respect women's choices. End of story.

My interest in Palin's pregnant daughter is only how it illustrates Republican hypocrisy, as has been said earlier, what if it were a democratic candidate? These same people would have buried her/him under a barrage of very ugly criticism.

It is also an irony of National scope that Palin officially supports abstinence over sex education. Right in her own family exists anecdotal proof of its failure.

One could also argue that that the pregnancy illustrates the bankruptcy of Republican claims to family values.

Personally I hate stupid snobs who throw their degrees in everyone's face and gloat about their "education". Most such Americans spent four years of their lives spending their parent’s money on getting drunk, living the party life and squeezed some classes in between and have the big gall to self congratulate. I went to college and met some of the dumbest people in my life while earning a degree. I have to mention this as the response will no doubt be a childish one involving accusations of jealousy. In many parts of the world earning a degree is an accomplishment, for most Americans it is something akin to a vacation and rarely produces intelligence as is evidenced by the American public.

Consider the following

Not sure the facts are 100% accurate, but close enough for this exercise... interesting..

Consider the following:

What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?

What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?

What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?

What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident?

What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?

What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to painkillers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?

What if Cindy McCain had graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five?  (The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Saving and Loan crisis of the late
1980s and early 1990s.)

What if McCain was a more charismatic, eloquent speaker than Obama?

What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?

What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many occasions, a serious anger management problem?

What if Michelle Obama's family had made their fortune from beer distribution?

What if the Obamas had adopted a white child?

You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

Ed ucation isn't everything, but this is about the two highest offices in the land as well as our standing in the world. There has to be a reason that, in spite of the above, we are where we are today.  What if things were switched around ... think about it.  Would the country's collective point of view be different? Could racism be the culprit? You make the call. If the races were reversed I don't think we would even have to hold an election, do you?
