The Daily Show’s Rally to Restore Sanity presents us with an enormous opportunity to unite with friends, family and allies in the name of sensibility and reasonableness.

One of the least sane American policies is the war on drugs – and especially marijuana prohibition. As Californians prepare to vote on Proposition 19, we have an opportunity to take a great leap forward on this momentous issue.

Join the drug policy reform movement at The Daily Show’s Rally to Restore Sanity, a mere three days before Proposition 19 goes to a vote. A whole range of students, civil rights and drug policy reform organizations will stand together to remind the nation that sanity means repealing unjust marijuana laws.

As long as parents believe that prohibition -- rather than education and regulation -- keeps their kids safe, our country is not sane.

As long as over 750,000 people are arrested for marijuana possession in the U.S. every year – most of them Black and Latino men who use and sell marijuana at the same rate as Whites -- our country is not sane.

As long as foreign-born residents of the U.S. can be deported for a marijuana law violation – no matter how long they have lived in this country – our country is not sane.

As long as millions of people on parole and probation are thrown back through the revolving prison doors for failing a drug test, our country is not sane.

As long as the U.S. black market for marijuana fuels rampant violence in Mexico, our country is not sane.

When it comes to restoring sanity and reasonableness, repealing marijuana prohibition is a natural. The desire to end marijuana prohibition crosses ideological and partisan boundaries, and it’s not just radical liberals and libertarians who say it should be legal. There is no archetypal marijuana law reformer because we come from across the entire political and social spectrum.

To reinforce this message and counter stereotypical media portrayals we will be donning business attire at the rally while holding signs that call for marijuana legalization.

If you support the cause, please join us at the National Mall in Washington, DC at 4th St. NW at 11am and on Facebook here: Rally to Restore (Drug Policy) Sanity. Check the event page frequently for updates.

We are so grateful to the Daily Show for creating the space for sane discourse about what is in the interest of our country. Let’s use that space to champion the repeal of the most insane of all policies.
