Fox Propaganda Site Goes to New Lengths to Distort Reality

By Karl Frisch, Media Matters for America. Posted June 8, 2009.

"Fox Nation", a website that's the newest addition to Rupert Murdoch's evil empire, deliberately misleads readers.

Upcoming AlterNet stories on Digg

He's called former Vice President Al Gore an "evil enabler" for speaking at Netroots Nation -- an annual conference that draws thousands of progressive blog enthusiasts. He's likened Markos Moulitsas, founder of the progressive blog powerhouse Daily Kos, to white supremacist David Duke. He's even accused The Huffington Post of using the "same exact tactics that the Nazis used."

To say that Fox News golden boy Bill O'Reilly is no fan of progressive blogs is an understatement akin to claiming the Hatfields and McCoys were mildly displeased with each other.

In fact, just last week, O'Reilly hosted a panel of lawyers who attempted, in vain, to explain that the conservative host's "rights" aren't violated by private criticism.

Back in March, while promoting its newly launched website TheFoxNation.com, Fox News ran advertisements telling viewers that it was "time to say 'no' to biased media and 'yes' to fair play and free speech."

In short, Fox News was jumping headfirst into the blogging world with just the snake oil necessary to cure what ailed O'Reilly -- a fair, honest, bias-free version of what he sees the left serving up.

It didn't take long for The Fox Nation to prove those fancy Fox News promos demonstrably inaccurate -- instead, it seems to have said "yes" to biased media and "no" to "fair play" from Day One.

In its first 24 hours, the website labeled Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) a "[d]angerous duo," linking to an Agence France-Presse article that simply reported that Dodd and Frank "promised President Barack Obama on Monday they would work with the White House to enact a sweeping overhaul of US financial regulatory structures by year's end."

Visitors to The Fox Nation were no doubt confused when they clicked on the link provided by the website to the AFP article in question only to find that it in no way characterized Dodd or Frank as "[d]angerous."

That was Day One. In the two months that followed the website's launch, The Fox Nation has displayed an uncanny ability to mislead readers, twist the truth, spread wild conspiracy theories, and misrepresent the reporting of legitimate journalists and media outlets.

ambushed one of their tribe who posed such a threat to the community.

The corporation has always been a threat to the common good. Medieval charters gave groups of powerful men the freedom to raid people's houses, destroy their goods and run them out of town. (Not too different from today then.)

The sooner we understand that society has returned (it never completely left) to brutal feudalism, the sooner we can address the problem.

Feudalism was power concentrated at the top, with property and power devolved to the monarch's supporters (barons then and barons now). The yeomanry were allowed to live well in return for enforcing the system. The peasants provided all the labor for the banqueting upper classes and the serfs were just left to survive as best they could.

So what is different today? We can only reclaim democracy if we put an end to corporate power. It is completely unjustifiable for people with power to exploit and oppress the rest of us.

A POX ON YOUR FOX

I have not yet seen the new FOX Noise web site but eventually I will - if only for laughs. That's the strange thing about that organization; they are years past the point where they could be taken even half-seriously.

Hopefully, the American people are starting to get wise to the FOX scam. They're ratings are down, MSNBC's are up, and the FOX Fools appear to be getting desperate.

I know I shouldn't even think this, but I hope they never go away. Have you ever watched an installment of FOX and Friends? It is the modern-day equivalent of watching the 1965 film "Hold On", starring the deservedly forgotten British pop band Herman's Hermits - so mind-numbingly awful that it's actually fun to watch. If you don't believe me, check it out sometime.

and bad is choreographed to appear good, you're near a tipping point.

America was critically wounded on 9/11 and placed on a life-support system of Lies.

GE has NO business owning NBC and Murdoch NO integrity or interest in a public trust.

See all MSM/NPR/PBS hollywood for exactly what they are;an accomplice to the crimes.

Is Bill O'Reilly a big NeoNazi Perv?

Current rating: 3    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Has he been getting away with harassment and perversion throughout his career? Has he used his position of power to get away with actual rape?

What sexual perversions is he hiding?

Did a history of coercion of women necessitate pathological dishonesty on O'Reilly's part making dishonesty about political matters trivial in his eyes?

Is it true that O'Reilly has a secret shrine where he worships nude statues of Limbaugh, Gingrich, Goering Murdoch and Hitler, masturbating furiously? Is he planning to add a statue of Beck?

I think these are all important questions.

Media Matters an 0xymoron?

Media Matters, your article shows the fear the press has that Mr. Obama will have to actually show the "real" birth certificate at some point in time.

You slip the birth certificate issue into your article to distract and manipulate the reader to believe that FOX must be engaging in some cynical political attack game aganist the President because of the articles and questions that they choose to place on their site.

Your article states, "that some have seen the birth certificate", this is not correct, and you are aware of this. It seems that if something is said enough times that it makes it so, no it does not. Many have seen a certificate but not his "valuted birth certificate". The more the press tries to cover for his real childhood, the more questions will be asked, "what is being covered up"? The truth is somewhere between what the birthers are saying, and what this President is saying.

This President promised to bring a new tone to Washington, so far his diversions and mainpulations with the aid of the press are no different than the Bush years?

I just clicked on that link for fox, yikes, are these people for real? It's kind of funny, but really sad that people think (or not think) this way. Just read the comments on the 'Caption This' segment on Michelle Obama. I'm not fan of the Obamas but these racists put a whole new face on ignorance.

So everyone has a problem with web sites that "mislead" people - I can think of a few far left sites that do a good job of misleading people and are quoted on here on a regular basis. So, are we against right leaning sites that mislead or all sites that mislead?

They are zombies, who have no thoughts of their own.Murdoch sees big bucks. "A sucker born every minute".As long as his people{sort of} on the air look like{Palin} Ken and Barbie, and stick to the talking points, he is very happy. Its all money. He could care less about Obama. Please pray that Fox Maybe news stays on the air. Every night on the air, they make 2012 look sooo much better.Dont get bent out of shape.NORMAL people just crack up, and know that Fox is just a great funny reality show. The really funny thing about Fox is that they have a great sports network.

I am just wondering: why did the email I received of this newsletter have the title: "Fox and Murdoch Conspiracy Theories", yet there is no mention of any conspiracy or theories to be found in this article?

Gee, talk about "comments that are off-topic or irrelevant to the story or discussion at hand"......how about headlines that are "off-topic"?

Is someone at AlterNet trying to link folks that ask questions of authority with the Fox propaganda agenda?

How VERY clever. And transparent.

What is Fox "News?"

I watched O'Reilly once. The topic had something to do with one accused of a crime and O'Reilly blurted that anyone pleading the 5th was guilty. I turned to my mate in "shock and awe" and responded that perhaps the requirements that a prosecution be pursuant to indictment, that an accused not be compelled to incriminate himself nor be deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law escaped this idiot-savant's awareness of rights guaranteed by the federal Constitution. I saw no reason to watch Fox anything again except, reluctantly, it's sports telecasts. Good choice on my part. Others should try it!

Fox (Murdoch) and Fascism
Posted by: mivince79 on Jun 8, 2009 3:20 PM
Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
The crux of the matter is that very thing the Founding Fathers feared: an aristocracy of wealth in the new Republic. Thomas Jefferson, in particular, feared excessive wealth because excessive wealth gave this potentially new aristocracy too much voice in governance. And FDR once gave a definition of Fascism that posited that whether one individual or one corporate entity accumulated more power than the democratic state, we would indeed be in thrall to a Fascist state. Solution? Diversify the media via the anti trust act. Murdoch has too much power for our democracy to succeed. Until he and his minions are brought down to earth, our democratic republic is in mortal danger.

I feel inclined to ask, am I suppose to be surprised by the tone, content and context the Murdoch/Fox blog chose...? I would have been truly surprised if it had been anything other than was it was intended to be. I would say Murdoch/Fox are an easy target, though for my money they are certainly not alone in the category of gross lack of honesty and transparency as the other major for-profit corporate mass media giants CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNBC,all walk and talk like the same duck.

The biggest problem with FOX is that they use the term "fair and balanced" when they have no intention of delivering real facts to their listeners. They choose attractive anchors who deliver the lines they are told - apparently without any thought to journalistic integrity or truth. While we should fear the megomaniacal money grubbers like Murdock, the only real thing to fear from the "Fox Nation" is their stupidity.

Here in Sweden, my wife and I used to watch Fox News for the hoots and fun it gave us, watching a real propaganda machine in action. Now, since Fox has been gone for about a year we're back to funless, boring CNN and BBC. However, Al Jazeera English has proven to be a wonderful alternative to both. Admittedly, however, we do miss the goofy, zaniness of programs like "Fox and Friends" and others.

In closing, come on Sweden! Bring back the rollicking good times we had with Fox.

Too much TV causes brain atrophy. Not to mention what it does to you emotionally. Run from it! Don't you see what it is? Listening to pinheads on TV -- any pinheads, from the left or the right -- is bad for your mental and emotional health. Don't let them dumb you down.

Someone mentioned TV as drug. That's precisely what it is. You have to go cold turkey. Just pull the plug and be free. If you get pangs, go out for a walk or a drive or read a book!

Rupert Murdock and his ilk have no interest whatever in you or your needs. He cares about you only to the extent you help to line his pockets.
