The Rise of Glenn Beck's Bizarre Media Militia
Sign up to stay up to date on the latest Media and Culture headlines via email.
After a night of drinking, followed by an early-morning argument with his mother, with whom he shared a Pittsburgh apartment, 22-year-old Richard Poplawski put on a bulletproof vest, grabbed his guns, including an AK-47 rifle, and waited for the police to respond to the domestic-disturbance call his mother had placed.
When two officers arrived at the front door, Poplawski shot them both in the head, and then killed another officer who tried to rescue his colleagues.
In the wake of the bloodbath, we learned that Poplawski was something of a conspiracy nut who embraced dark, radical rhetoric about America. He was convinced the government wanted to take away his guns, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.
Specifically, Poplawski, one friend described it, feared "the Obama gun ban that's on the way" and "didn't like our rights being infringed upon." (FYI, there is no Obama gun ban in the works.) The same friend said the shooter feared America was "going to see the end of our times."
We learned that Poplawski hosted his own (failed) Internet radio show and that he visited the Web site of 9/11 conspiracy backer Alex Jones, who has been hyping the threat of a totalitarian world government for years. More recently, Jones has been warning listeners like Poplawski about The Obama Deception (that's the name of Jones' new documentary DVD) and how President Barack Obama is bound to destroy America.
Who's Alex Jones? Even according to some conservative bloggers, the anti-government, anti-Obama talker is a "freak" who's popular with "the tin-foil-hat crowd." Like Poplawski, apparently.
Jones might be a "freak," but he has recently been embraced -- and mainstreamed -- by Fox News as part of the news channel's unprecedented drive to push radical propaganda warning of America's democratic demise under the new president.
During a March 18 Webcast of FoxNews.com's proudly paranoid "Freedom Watch," Andrew Napolitano introduced a segment about "what the government has done to take your liberty and your property away." And with that, he welcomed onto the show "the one, the only, the great Alex Jones," who began ranting about "exposing" the New World Order and the threat posed by an emerging "global government."
"I appreciate what you're exposing," Napolitano assured his guest.
Waving around a copy of his Obama Deception, Jones warned Fox News Webcast viewers about Obama's "agenda" for gun confiscation and the new president's plan to "bring in total police-state control" to America.
Jones also noted with excitement that Fox News' Glenn Beck had recently begun warning about the looming New World Order on his show, just like Jones had for years. "It is great!" cheered the conspiracist. (Like Jones, Beck recently warned viewers that the Second Amendment is under fire.) Concluding the interview, Fox News' Napolitano announced "it's absolutely been a pleasure" listening to Jones' insights.
We don't know if Poplawski tuned in to watch Jones' star turn for Fox News last month. But is there any doubt that Fox News is playing an increasingly erratic and dangerous game by embracing the type of paranoid insurrection rhetoric that people like Poplawski are now acting on?
By stoking dark fears about the ominous ruins that await an Obama America, by ratcheting up irresponsible back-to-the-wall scenarios, Fox News has waded into a territory that no other news organization has ever dared to exploit.
What Fox News is now programming on a daily (unhinged) basis is unprecedented in the history of American television, especially in the form of Beck's program. Night after night, week after week, Beck rails against the president while denouncing him or his actions, alternately, as Marxist, socialist or fascist.
He felt entirely comfortable pondering whether the federal government, under the auspices of FEMA, was building concentration camps to round up Americans in order to institute totalitarian rule. (It wasn't until this week that Beck was finally able to "debunk" the FEMA conspiracy theory.) And that's when Beck wasn't gaming out bloody scenarios for the coming civil war against Obama-led tyranny. In just a few shorts months, Beck raced to the head of Fox News' militia media movement.
Just prior to the Pittsburgh massacre, Beck's often-bizarre on-air performances, in which his rants against the Obama administration's dark forces were mixed in with his tearful proclamations of love of country, had turned him into a highly rated laughingstock.
"That is a shaky cat," Dennis Miller recently giggled while describing Beck. MSNBC's Joe Scarborough broke into hysterics after a montage of Beck's most weepy moments. And TV satirists have had a field day at the Fox News host's expense. (Stephen Colbert: "Crank up the crazy and rip off the knob!")
But I'm not sure people should be laughing.
The consequences of Fox News' doomsday programming now seem entirely predictable. As Jeffrey Jones, a professor of media and politics at Old Dominion University, recently explained to the New York Times in regard to Beck's rhetoric, "People hear their values are under attack, and they get worried. It becomes an opportunity for them to stand up and do something."
People like Poplawski? FYI, weeks before his shooting spree, Poplawski uploaded a video clip of Beck ominously referencing the FEMA camps on Fox News.
It's true that Beck, in response to mounting criticism, made this statement on his show:
"Let me be clear on one thing. If someone tries to harm another person in the name of the Constitution or the truth behind 9/11 or anything else, they are just as dangerous and crazy as those people we don't seem to recognize anymore -- you know, the ones who kill in the name of Allah."
But look at the very next two lines of his monologue: "There are enemies both foreign and domestic in America tonight. Call it fearmongering or call it the truth." That doesn't sound like Beck was backing away from his rhetorical call to arms to fend off the Marxist -- no, wait -- fascist, Obama administration.
And let's drop the idea -- pushed hard by Beck himself -- that he's simply a modern-day Howard Beale, from the classic film Network, just an angry, I'm-mad-as-hell everyman lashing out at the hypocrisies of our time. Nonsense.
Beale's unvarnished on-air rants from Network targeted conformity, corporate conglomerates and the propaganda power of television. ("This tube," he called it.) Beale's attacks were not political or partisan. Beck, by contrast, unleashes his anger against, and whips up dark scenarios about, the new president of the United States. Big difference.
Here's a sampling of what Beck has been drumming into the heads of viewers, a portion of whom likely (and logically) hear his rhetoric as a call to action.
- That the government is a "heroin pusher using smiley-faced fascism to grow the nanny state."
- That it's indoctrinating our children.
- That we have "come to a very dangerous point in our country's long, storied history."
Beck is concerned that the "Big Brother" government will soon dictate what its citizens can eat, at what temperature their houses can be set and what kind of cars they're allowed to drive.
Beck is sure "[d]epression and revolution" are what await America under Obama, and fears moving "towards a totalitarian state." The country today sometimes reminds Beck of the early days of Adolf Hitler. Beck thinks that Obama, who has "surrounded himself by Marxists his whole life," is now "addicting this country to heroin -- the heroin that is government slavery."
And it's not just Beck. Appearing on Fox News, Dick Morris recently made a wildly irresponsible comment that looks even worse in light of the Pittsburgh law-enforcement slayings: "Those crazies in Montana who say, 'We're going to kill ATF agents because the U.N.'s going to take over' -- well, they're beginning to have a case."
And it's not just Fox News. Radio nut Michael Savage recently claimed that "we have a naked Marxist for president." And high-profile conservative blogger Erick Erickson contemplated the beating of politicians: "At what point do [people] get off the couch, march down to their state legislator's house, pull him outside and beat him to a bloody pulp for being an idiot?"
Of course, the right-wingers at Free Republic are way ahead of Erickson as they fantasize about Obama's assassination: "And let's face it: all the speculation about Obama being the actual Antichrist will either be confirmed or denied if someone gets off a lucky shot at the SOB."
'Go Kill Liberals!'
I wonder if Beck knows who Jim Adkisson is? Adkisson made headlines on July 28, 2008, when he took his sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun into the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville, Tenn., and, after whipping it out of a guitar case, opened fire on parishioners while a group of schoolchildren performed songs up by the altar. Adkisson killed two people and wounded several others.
Adkisson, a 58-year-old unemployed truck driver, brought 70 shotgun shells with him and assumed he'd keep killing until the police arrived on the scene and shot him dead as well. Instead, some members of the congregation were able to wrestle him to the ground and hold him for police.
When investigators went to Adkisson's home in search of a motive, as well as evidence for the pending trial, they found copies of Savage's Liberalism is a Mental Disorder, Let Freedom Ring by Sean Hannity, and The O'Reilly Factor, by Fox News' Bill O'Reilly. They also came across what was supposed to have been Adkisson's suicide note: a handwritten, four-page manifesto explaining his murderous actions.
The one-word answer for his deed? Hate. The three-word answer? He hated liberals.
The only way we can rid ourselves of this evil is kill them in the streets. Kill them where they gather. I'd like to encourage other like-minded people to do what I've done. If life ain't worth living anymore, don't just kill yourself. Do something for your Country before you go. Go Kill Liberals!
What Adkisson especially hated about liberals ("this cancer, this pestilence") and what he hated about candidate "Osama Hussein Obama" was that they were marching America toward ruin: "Liberals are evil, they embrace the tenets of Karl Marx, they're Marxist, socialist, communists." Adkisson seethed over the way liberals were "trying to turn this country into a communist state" and couldn't comprehend why they would "embrace Marxism."
Sound familiar, Beck?
John Bohstedt was one of the church members who tackled Adkisson after the first round of gunfire began inside the sanctuary. Two months ago, Adkisson pleaded guilty to the murder charges and was sentenced to life in prison. At the hearing, Bohstedt told the Associated Press he didn't think the killer had been insane, but rather had been manipulated by anti-liberal rhetoric.
"There are a lot of people who hate liberals, and if we stir that around in the pot and on the airwaves, eventually there will be people (like Adkisson) ... who get infected by the violent rhetoric and put it into violent action," Bohstedt said.
He remained worried about future violence: "Do you think there are other Jim Adkissons out there listening to hate speech? I do."
Me, too.

If the nutjobs can cause society to unravel it gives them an excuse for everything- assassination of Obama, marshal law, and the wresting of the reins of government from those damn liberals in order to save America for those it was designed for, the corporation. We're in deep guano here, the only way to save us is to stick together, and the MSM babble is going to do its damnedest to make sure that doesn't happen.

Maddow herself, and Olberman more so, bask uncritically in the Obama glow, and spend much of their shows just making fun of stupid things Republicans say and do. (The recent Summers "revelations" of his conflicts of interest are a good example: nothing critical or interesting until someone else makes it OK to talk about.) Brzezinski has been on her show several times, where he blabs on about "success" in Afganistan. She and a guest were laughing about the "violence metric" in Afganistan last week, the guest saying that the "metric" would go up soon, and is nothing to be concerned about unless it lasts a year. She had to apologize for saying she made Powell, killer & liar extraordinaire, uncomfortable, when he clearly wasn't. Any real analysis comes after her interviews, not during. I don't watch other MSM news, but if Maddow, who is at least trying to bring a reality-based perspective, is this bad, I wonder what Media Matters ignores. (What ever happened to Penny Pritzker, anyways?)
As for the article, yes, Alex Jones is a hack, but also did several anti-Bush "films" (really just as poorly cobbled as the Obama "film"). FEMA camps & their potential are real (search "FEMA camps" in the alternet archive), the government DOES indoctrinate children (pleading alignment to the flakes and the unholy shakes of an unwed cow, sports subsidies, the glory of military "service" etc.), DOES restrict what cars you can drive, and IS the largest drug pusher in the world (Afganistan, Colombia, Big Pharma, marijuana reform a joke). Obama is so far continuing the worst of the seditious fascist Bush legacy; it would just be nice to see an actual fair and balanced media critique.

That is NOTHING compared with the horror that has come upon the world because of the irresponsible journalism of Alternet, and the rest of American media.
It is truly "BIZARRE" that venues like Alternet have ignored the real story of 9/11, allowing the official story, an obvious pack of lies and coverup, to continue. This story, supported by Alternet, has led to illegal wars, the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of people and maybe over a million, occupations that continue, ethnic hatred in the US of Muslims and Arabs, repression, and a bleeding of our own troops and national treasure.
All this could have been avoided if American media had not been so "bizarre" and simply done their job........follow the facts and evidence, had just a little bit of curiousity, and a lot of courage. US jouralists, instead, conspired to keep the biggest story of all time from the American people, and Alternet still does. Could this be called treason? Maybe.
But Alternet doesn't care. Seven and a half years, and no real story about 9/11 truth. The evidence is even more clear now, and is ignored. Recently a scientific paper has been written by respected scientists like Kevin Ryan and Steven Jones and Richard Gage about the Thermite in the collapse of the WTC's three buildings, proof of controlled demolition, and proof therefore of a coverup and government complicity.
But to learn about it, one must go to obscure webisites, places that Alternet apparently thinks are irresponsible. Too bad, because these sites present information that has been brought to us by some of the most respected scientists and seekers of truth, and backed by, at one, 700 architects and engineers willing and brave enough to sign onto 9/11 truth. Go to www.ae911truth.org to see REAL heroes and brave people, unlike American journalists who have refrained from the truth and allowed international slaughter to continue based on the 9/11 lies.
We need, desperately need, journalists with a sense of responsibility to truth, courageous enough to stop the self censoring of the facts of 9/11, and those who instead of looking at how irresponsible OTHER journalists are or websites are, begin to look at themselves and see just how much violence and horror they have brought us by not doing their job and allowing the lies to continue.
Think about it, jouralists. Our future is at stake.

My biggest concern over the article is a lack of perspective. It is all about Obama hating. Jones, for example, has been railing about the new world order and has called Bush a pawn as well as Obama.
Beck, too, although much more incited by Obama right now, has not been very supportive of Bush.
The article would have carried far more credibility with me had those points been made.

The first thing we need to do is Re-Legalize Marijuana in order to deprive the Military Black Ops Budget of their money and to rob the Mexican Drug Cartels of their money as well: 70% of their revenue comes from Marijuana sales. The fact that Obama won't move forward with this shows his complicity in the New World Order.
Glenn Beck and Alex Jones are basically correct though I don't agree with either on everything be a long shot.
=====================
The MERP Model for Re-Legalization will destroy the Mexican Drug Cartels and much, much more. Please visit and post the following link far and wide. This subweb is both for understanding MERP and implementing MERP. We need everyones help on this. Get on the mailing list now! Let's Re-Legalize Marijuana in 2009 World Wide.

9/11 conspiracy, New World Order and End of Days.....They, nor the people who follow, them are necesssarily one in the same.
9/11 theorist have various levels of questions to begin with- some bring in '80's relationships with both Bin laden & Saddam and the Reagan admin (precipatators). Others focus solely on Detonation possiblities (intentional). And others take a view regarding the Abuse of Powers Seized afterwards (shock doctine opportunistic)
The New World Order also has some variations. Some consider it a long standing 'Secret Society'(aka Free masons or Illuminati). Others see it as the Globalization of Corps or a Global Gov't (UN) -or Both, essentially enslaving Humanity.Or those who see this 'group' as a aliens or 'reptilian'.
Then there are the 'End of Dayers'who also may have levels. Those who see signs (seals) indicating the End of the World and those who are actively working towards it to facilitate the 'Rapture'.This last group is the most dangerous, Call themselves 'Jihadist' or 'Gods Warriors/soldiers'.
So as you can see there are varying levels of 'Tin hats' and can be combined in numerous ways.
Personally I question 9/11 from Historical events - both from the '80's and now from hindsight over the Bush yrs.
New World Order- I see soley as a Corp attempt to behold Gov'ts and their people to them through owning & controlling resources- with some help from Political figure who like to line their pockets.
As for End of Days- I figure if it's 'God's Will' We're fucked regardless of th esteps we take to avoid it- but it;'s worth trying - aka World peace,Green Energy.Additionally I find it heretical to work towards such Destruction for Any reason- including Salvation (How can you possibley think you will be'saved' when you've destroyed the Earth and Humanity- unless of course you're working for the Other Side)
My Point is becareful of generalizing these concepts and then lumping them all together- they are not. You can however identify those who present a serious danger to others if you can determine which specific concepts an individual has correlated within their own mind (psychological Profile).
First and Foremost watch out for the Active End of Dayers (the Rapture fanatics)- they not only have a Religious justification, but the motivation to bring it on.
The next scary group are the ones who want to fight the insitutional entities with weapons instead of votes and grassroots participation. Theres plenty of 'NWO' people who respsonded to 'Yes We Can' because they saw that as a means to return "Power to the People".
As for most 9/11 'tin hats'- many have justified concerns about the political actions for decades leading up to it and the political effects afterwards- reason they too voted against McCain (who provided Aid & comfort to Binny's rag tag 'Afghani Freedom fighters' in the '80's)
Ultimately it comes down to a persons underlying ideology of have to respond to these concepts- are they proactive through political means or intraspection, or through violence, vengence or Self righteousness.
There is a litany of sociopaths that can be referenced to understand the potential towards violence merely using these three concepts and their interplay.Someone who wants to prove he is worthy of the 'Rapture' by destroying the 'Evil'(or sparing the innocent of suffering) is about to commit a heinous crime...Jim Jones, Charlie Manson, Tim McVeigh,Bin Laden...

I am too. You should be too. And it is not farfetched to thing that the army of enviro experts so called Barack Obama has running EPA and every agency thru enviro czaress Browner will try to control your lifestyle.
Certainly articles in Alternet each week if not each day propose limits on American consumption habits and means of transportation and design of housing. Some controls may indeed be desireable. Others are based on the fear science of manmade climate change.
The radical enviros, backed by the President's science advisor and Browner, propelled by the PR machine of selfpromoter Gore, do want want more government and less individual choice. Millions are worried about that. No homicide to date can be traced to that legitimate fear.
If and when taxes and energy prices soar because of a cap and trade program or carbon tax, and the negative effects enhances an inflationary economy caused by the massive payoffs by Bernanke and Obama to banks and insurance companies, the people's right of revolution certainly may be an option. Revolt is an option and indeed a duty(Jefferson) whenever tyranny raises its head.
Whether it be forcing 20 million illegal aliens down our throats or socializing energy for the benefit of an enviro junta obsessed with mad science and social control, American citizens will make the choices they have had to make since 1776. Most of the time the choice is to work peacefully within the system. But the proposed power grabs by Obama and his Jacobin mob may, may, justify stronger measures.

My work has been embraced by Kevin MacDonald, a UC-Long Beach prof of psychology who has become controversial for his views of Jews. On his blog, MacDonald writes of my recent post on the Jewish presence in the establishment.
Jews won the culture war without a shot being fired and without the losing side seeming to realize that it was a war with real winners and real losers — where the losers have not only given up their cultural preeminence, but have failed to stand up to the ultimate denouement: demographic displacement from lands they had controlled for centuries. The new elite retains its outsider feelings toward their new subjects — a hostile elite in the United States as it was in the Soviet Union.
...Weiss seems to feel a twinge of guilt about the role of Jews as victors in the culture war — guilt stemming from his understanding that the new elite has some very glaring moral failings of its own, including its own brand of ethnocentrism that seems far deeper than anything imagined by the WASPs.
The danger for Jews is that non-Jews will come to realize the deep wellsprings of Jewish ethnocentrism and see Jewish involvement in the displacement of European-descended peoples as resulting from ethnic conflict over the construction of culture. Ultimately, Europeans may come to realize that the conflict is really about the ethnic displacement of themselves as a people.
Speaking for myself, it would be difficult for me not to have developed something of a sense of my peoplehood after delving into the 2000-year history of Jews who were intensely concerned about preserving their people and their culture. As I’ve come to realize, preserving one’s people and culture is a virtual human universal.
I find a lot of what MacDonald has said elsewhere bracing and bold. He is alive to important sociological trends that few people are talking about out loud. When he speaks, feelingly, of the displacement of WASPs, he is giving voice to a declension and hurt that I've seen even in gentile friends of mine, and that is rarely expressed...

Are these beliefs really that far fetched?? A lot of people believe 9/11 was an inside job so that’s not so far fetched. Learning disabilities are epidemic with our kids, so what’s causing this? If there was ever an economic collapse, don’t you think the government might have enacted a plan of dealing with the civil unrest that would pursue? It’s obvious to everyone that a NWO is now a reality. A new world currency is being discussed. We have NATO, NAFTA, WTO, WHO, and so on. The mainstream think tank really expects that it’s unconscionable that some individuals in this Country would react negatively to the dismantling of our Constitution, the bailouts of the banking industry, and the total destruction of the peoples Freedom through over taxation, and regulation. Who is really living in the unrealistic world? I for one appreciate the Conspiracy point of view over the unthinking respect of authority?

It is pathetic. Look at the way Obama can say "57" meaning "47," for example, and it's splattered all over the place. But something like this stream of messages from the right wing noise machine, with its obvious cause and effect, and NOTHING! Where is the outrage?
What does anyone on the right have to do, actually go out and KILL someone personally, not just cause it, to get any run in the media?
For that matter, where are the democrats when it comes to making people accountable? Looks like Obama would just as soon keep Bush safe from examination, and even continue some of the abuses. Democrats are just as lame and to blame in these matters, by their lack of acknowledgement and action.
When you need a good bat to take a whack at the issues, democrats are fouling off any pitches and trying to take a walk, when lobs are coming to the plate. It's not brain surgery. Speak UP! Or hey, maybe start investigating these things, and the former adminstrations criminal activities?
This is frustrating. WTF. It's great for Alternet to expose such issues, but this is a tempest in a teapot. I'm mad as hell, but I have to sit here and take it, because we have no one doing their job in the main stream media, or in Congress, or the administration to take these issues and these idiots head on. Come on folks. Stop reading your pollster tea leaves, and cowering, and start DOING the right thing.
You might be surprised that most people would actually SUPPORT you. Even still, is that what truly matters? Where are your principles?
OK, enough --I guess it's just more banging my head against the wall....

However, with regards with what is happening to America, I think he is right. However, for a more perspicacious analysis, one need only go to any of these books: Naomi Wolf (The End of America), Naomi Klein (The Shock Doctrine, the Rise of Disaster Capitalism), or the latest two books by John Perkins, amongst others, to learn that Alex Jones makes some excellent points.
Of course he is bombastic and even angry at times, but when you see your own country going down the toilet and the non-rich folks going down as well, shouldn't you be angry?
As for Glen Beck, I don't approve of his antics one bit. I do not appreciate people being made to hate or made to be angry for no reason! Yes, we should be concerned about this country going towards fascism. (Yes, that is what is happening if you're awake at all.) So we need to do everything we can to stop this from happening.
As for "The Obama Deception", I thought it was a well made documentary and I would recommend it to anyone. It wasn't perfectly made, but the major thrust behind the movie is this: Obama can't act according to his best principles--they've been hijacked by forces over which he has little control! He can try, but his actions are restricted by others more powerful than him.

CLINTON IN 2000 gave his blessing to the whole globalist thing on the UN "INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT (ICC). The DEMOCRATS all along want to make US citizens SERVANTS TO THE UN AS OUR GOVERNMENT instead of a country governed by WE THE PEOPLE.
Thankfully a handful of protestors in SEATTLE WASH REMEMBA?? SECURED our freedom and
Thankfully Bush saw the serious threat this Socialist star chamber posed to our military and he told them to stuff a sock in it. Apparantly at that time the UN was insulted by it. Although the REPUBLICANS tried twice to negotiate immunity for US peacekeepers thru the Sec Council
To the present it's only one of the 1 % group of people attempting to destroy our Nation's economic systems.
WHY??? It was said to a WASH DC VIP---that the reason the Socialists think they will win this time and are doing this is because ACLU and their DEMS SLUGS -- they don't think American's are " smart enough" to care to let their fingers do the walking to protect their lands, their CONSTITUTION or their freedoms. The DEMS and ACLU don't think the 99% of American's will be 'smart enough" to CARE about their country, their homes, their small business enough to kick the WASH DC SLUGS out and send them packing by way of Balagovich for NOT doing what is right to protect PUBLIC freedoms and the free enterprise system (ie meaning small business/med business) and rights.
Therefore, they want to make sure they take all freedoms away from the public and they want to make it impossible for FREE ENTERPRISE to exist for the small business and mid business and sole proprietorship thru gravytraining BIG BUSINESS bankrupting our Nation and MUSCLING OUT the small/med sole proprietorships, and creating a welfare state. A move straight out of the marxist handbook. and by attempting to eradicate free speech.
Then, we will be SOCIALIST/GLOBALIST/MARX/FACIST/COMM COUNTRY and the marketplace will be MONOPOLIZED AND DOMINATED by the ENGORGED 1 or 2 or several big businesses in sector. Gone will be the hope for any American whom would wish to start a business and earn profit to live on. it's why they cannot wait to get their hands on public money and THROW parties COSTING MILLIONS and big bonuses to CEO'S at the public expense.
I THINK ravel from wikipedia said it best:
The democracies that will surely perish will be those who cannot tell the difference between good and evil, survival and ruin, freedom and tyranny. Or, perhaps more to the point, the greatest danger faced by democracy are those who deny that there is any real difference after all.

HR 236 AND BE9006 COLA PROTECTION
it will protect these benefits without
1. RAISING TAXES
2. WITHOUT RAISING PREMIUMS
3. WITHOUT CUTTING SERVICES
It's no surprise the DEMS want to do away with the lobby groups working for PUBLIC to be protected. It won't pass unless there is an OUTPOURING of PUBLIC pressure on CONGRESS.
Politicians would rather scare everyone with tax cuts and service cuts rather than keep their hands out of the SOC SEC "till" --to keep on using SOC SEC as a "petty cash fund" for pork projects instead which will further aid in bankrupting this Nation.
They would rather scare everyone by claiming it's needful to raise taxes or make cuts or their Socialist rhetoric of---how "selfish" everyone" is for not wanting to pay higher taxes; Rather than refrain from 'raiding" SOC SEC for their pet pork projects.
Here the DEMS CONGRESS JUST took a COLA INCREASE for CONGRESS OF 550.22 PER MONTH ... while DECIDIN you THE PUBLIC could live on 63.00 per month.
they want to raise taxes and price of foods and prescription and even eggs is up 55 %.
and yet they say $63.00 a month--a lousy 5% COLA INCREASE is enough for PUBLIC.
Here, the DEMS want to irresponsibly bailout the business, which will bankrupt US unless we apply brakes and ceilings, and caps and make businesses pay money back in timely fashion.
However, when it comes to doing something GOOD to BAILOUT the PUBLIC the DEMS don't want it--which incidentally is why this is probably the first time you are reading or hearing about it.
Seek legislative and LEGAL agencies to DISMANTLE the bailout and kick out the SOCIALIST stimulus.

the latest??? FILMAKER MICHALE MOORE even made a propaganda 'feature film' claiming that Cuba's socialized healthcare is better than America's and that USA should imitate Cuba.
WHAT THEY ARE HIDING?? THE REALITY IN CUBA---they are FORCED to BEG tourists for common medicines like allergy and asthma inhalers and even aspirin. you can bet if USA allows itself to be bamboozled on accepting the SOCIALIST HEALTHCARE DEMS will make sure USA is worse off than Cuba.
DO you want to know what the ACLU thinks about how 'STUPID' they view Americans. QUOTE Americans will never "knowingly" accept Socialism, but DISGUISED under "liberalism" Americans will accept every fragment; and one day wake up in a Socialist Nation and "wonder" how it all happened to them.
don't believe it??? here's what NORMAN THOMAS one of co-founder's of ACLU says about USA quote-- Americans will never "knowingly" accept Socialism, but under "liberalism" Americans will accept every fragment; and one day wake up in a Socialist Nation and "wonder" how it all happened.
Here we have the DEMS always needing a bigger shovel for the level of UTOPIAN propaganda they want to throw at the UNSUSPECTING PUBLIC.
PEOPLE OUR MARKET BASED HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IS ONE OF THE BEST IN THE WORLD. Why, sure it's not perfect. BUT THE SHORTCOMINGS it faces such as high cost of drugs and insurance---are in part THE results of the inroads the SOCIALISTS AND LIBERALS have already made into our market based health care system.
THE REAL SOLUTION TO fixing HEALTHCARE ISN'T to make UNCLE SAME/DEMS your doctor ....BUT to GIVE YOU THE PUBLIC MORE CHOICE.
ALLOWING the DEMS socialize healthcare not only would prove expensive but DEADLY. Think about it?? DEMS WANT TO SPEND MORE MONEY BUT DENY PUBLIC the meds and services it needs while GOV POCKETS THE CASH TO SPEND ON PORK

AG Holder talks about having a gun restriction agenda that he must go slow on (see his public comments Apr 7) but that includes reinstating part or all of the 1994 weapons ban which expired in 2004 and which showed no major impacts on curbing violent crime.
There is definitely an anti-gun agenda in the Obama administration that conflicts with the 2nd Amendment as was recently articulated by the Supreme Court in the 2008 case DC v Heller.
65 Democrat Reps in the House wrote Obama and Holder and told them not to get started with divisive gun rights battles when the economy requires so much attention - but that's only a 'hold' on the Obama anti-gun rights agenda.
Remember that Gun rights are Civil rights.

1) To move public opinion ever farther to the right to facilitate corporate rapacity. No matter how radically rightist our government becomes, the corporate plutocracy will shout alarmingly about communism.
2) To obscure the complicity of the Obama Administration in this ongoing coup against representative government. The idea is to get Obama's critics on the left to become his defenders against the irrational hate of the idiot right. In that way, they are prevented from effectively criticizing his increasingly apparent slavish devotion to the corporate plutocracy.
Unfortunately, one hour of Newscorp broadcasting reaches more minds than a year of comments on Alternet. The people will certainly fall into this trap again, just like they did in the Clinton years.

In the comments you'll notice one user getting his comments marked as spam for attacking Alex Jones. The reaction by everyone then is to point out how that poster links to "prothink" which is a genuinely bigoted site, and the accusation is that Alex Jones is a Zionist shill because he claims Arabs own the media in the US and doesn't cover the "Zionist angle". So the result is that users on 911Blogger are left to choose between the "bad anti-Alex Jones people" and Alex Jones. Of course they end up supporting Jones as the "non-racist" in this case. But this was in 2008, months after 911Blogger had banned a number of users precisely because they accused people like Alex Jones of being right wing shills. It's ALL theater. The purpose is to divide honest and well-meaning people among various competing agendas so that they will be so busy fighting each other (a la Monty Python's "Judean People's Front, etc.) that they will never figure out what's really going on and how to fix it.

Alex Jones is on to something. Here we are, as a species, sitting on the preicipice of environmental catastrophe, and most of world's assets are in the hands of Wall Street, British Big Oil, and some French financial firms. We have overshot the carrying capacity of the earth for our species and a huge die off would take place naturally, state sponsored or not.
Wall Street, British Big Oil and the French Financial Firms (trilateral, bilderberg, CFR) are in an excellent position to exploit exponentially this environmental holocaust.
AlterNet, you are doing a fairly reliable job since you made the radical switch three weeks ago, but this article smells of disinformation.
peace,
Justin

I had never seen Glenn Beck's tirade's before..but now I have..and it was in turns hilarious and scary.
You see we still have a degree of objectivity, in all of our telly news over here..though the Conservative Party, have been looking at proposals, to allow Fox style Nuremberg rally type speeches to masquerade as news.
Beck,in the clips I saw came across as insane, and was only a hairs breadth away, from saying pick up a gun, and fight back against liberals and fairness.
To start with,in Brooker's words "Fox leans more to the right than a man who has had his right leg cut off"..but recent Fox signing Beck..well he takes this even further, than the psychotic and unprofessional looking/sounding O Reilly.
Beck's speech regarding "I love my country and I feel for it"in the face of "special interest's"..was just pure propaganda..with a call for the right to "take back the country".
Heck this kind of rubbish, demands a mental filtering system, that ignores blood for oil wars, the poor dying, because of having no healthcare, and how the anti-patriotic Cheney gang encouraged through deregulation, the situation which led to global economic crisis, and the doctoring of science, to deny climate change, such doctoring and denial has played a big part, in worsening environmental degradation.
In short Fox is insane,Beck is insane, and the rhetoric is such as to rally the insane,to rise up.Fox doesn't say how, they should rise up..leaving that to the psychopathic audience to decide what actions to take.
Nope they never say "pick up a gun"..but it's no surprise that a growing number of fanatic's, beleive that Fox is exhorting them to take such action.
Poplawski won't be the last,to heed the call to arm's,and interpret it in the context of "pick up your gun's".
Thank God we have Charlie Brooker..and not Glenn Beck..
Brooker merely mirrors the incredulousness that most people, used to a degree of objectivity, feel when watching Fox.Good luck to all decent American's, in your battle to restore balance and sanity, in your nation's news content.

God’s people hitlist: God wants them dead because they harm America!
* Barack “The Muslim” Obama
(aka “Homobama”, “Barack Osama”, “Husein the Terrorist”)
Aaron Russo (God won - died of cancer!)
Charles Darwin (God Won)
Nancy “Mafia Princess” Pelosi
Rudy “Cross-dressing Baby-Killer” Giuliani
... (click for more)
meh... with Giuliani, i kinda have to agree... not on the 'baby killer' nonsense, but about the 'cross dressing' thing. if you think Giuliani is ghoulish as a man... you haven't seen 'her' in drag... absolutely frightening!
anyway, it gets better...
"Let's KILL Two Birds with One Stone"
Friends,
In the same week that the commie Koreans manage to build a missile capable of sending a bomb as far as the USA, the state of Vermont has announced that it’s going to allow the homos to marry each other. Wouldn’t it be great if the Koreans just launched all their nukes at Vermont? We could solve two problems in one go… end Homosexuality and disarm the Koreans."
and that is just a teensy little sample. the site is like a clearing house for hate & stupidity, it's replete with this kind of invective... it must be seen to be believed.
and in an ironic twist of serendipity, i find this...
"Screaming and cussing, throwing insults like a 5 yrs old - Alex Jones has gone Mad.
What is wrong with Alex Jones. With around 10 Million listeners he is one of the most successful Radio Talkshow hosts in America and yet he does not seem to be able to enjoy his status, instead he is screaming and yelling like a lunatic. Why you ask? Because apparently he thinks that Obama is gonna take away his guns and therefor prevent him from visiting the gun club and shooting at paper targets. Poor baby!
And why else is he screaming like a toddler that feel from the changing table? Oh yeah, because some fictional police officer does give his child fluride (healthy teeth) and they goes somewhere and does not care that the very same child is “brain damaged”. Right. .. . Is there anything else bothering you, Mr. Jones?
Jones, you are a nutcase! You belong somewhere and trust me: We will lock you up sooner or later, Jones. When nobody is watching we are coming to take you away, Jones. Look over your shoulder, Jones. We are right there, we are watching you right now. Or maybe not.

Eric Boehlert is a terrible jounalist for associating Glenn Beck with militias especially because he has never been involved with them. And worse, Eric Boehlert is being a terrible person for subtly implying militias are in some way bad (see title). Militias are things that patriotic Americans who are highly sane and generally have nothing to do with conspiracy theorists join because they love America and what it stands for. And Eric Boehlert did nothing to so much as think about that fact while writing the article.
The whole concept of "conspiracy theorist" is an invention by jerks like Eric Boehlert to pretend he is mentally superior to "those silly conspiracy nuts".
Had he ever visited the most widely followed conspiracy site, ATS, and actually read any of the theories at all, he would find that for most theories the "conspiracy theorist" majority of the people who comment to them state they DO NOT agree that the conspiracy is true. Thats right. Conspiracy theorists are smart people unlike Eric Boehlert because they have the capacity to understand that while most conspiracy theories are junk, there are a few consiracy facts out there that are not theorist but facts.
I've never heard Glenn Beck so much as discuss a conspiracy theory except the FEMA prison camps which are frankly a proven conspiracy fact not a theory. So instead of Eric Boehlert making an ass of himself he should be writing about how right Glenn Beck is to "join the conpsiracy theorist nuts" in recognizing the questionable and ridiculous FEMA prison camps. Shame on him for his stupid smear attempt that should have could been used covering the proven conspiracy fact known as FEMA prison camps.
There are something like .1% of the conspiracy theorists who subscribe with just about every theory in existence like widely regularly scheduled mind control Chemtrails, tin foil hats, aliens in control, etc., then there are 99.9% of "conspiracy theorists" who simply have a brain and know that not everything the government tells us is true like the 9/11 fiction we were told. I shouldn't be labeled a "conspiracy nut" for that just because I'm a sane logical person who isn't as good as deluding myself with official statements as Eric Boehlert.
Glenn Beck is not even close to believing 9/11 was an inside job and has next to nothing to do with conspiracy theories.
Its truly pitiful and shameful how journalists classify any tough to believe story as "conspiracy nut stuff" therefore they must immediately dismiss the story and certainly they cannot research the story.
Clearly Eric Boehlert is currently incapable of sound reasoning or good journalism because if he were he would never dismiss anything as "conspiracy nut stuff" nor would he label someone a "conspiracy nut" for believing reasonable and sound arguments.

It is time to defang these media clowns by just ignoring them with comments like "Beck is at it again. When will he learn that we are not afraid just because he says we should be? We are Americans and we can think for ourselves!" If every other network - cable, Internet, broadcast - would not repeat this idiot's assertions or in fact, any of the assertions of anyone at FOX, then people who do not watch FOX would stop being continually brainwashed by hearing something over and over from a variety of sources, which then gives the FOX assertions credibility in people's minds.
We cannot blame just FOX when every media, including Alternet, keeps repeating the story line. If you are a FOX listener, there is nothing that can be said to you to change your mind, and if you are getting your news anywhere else, you do not need to hear FOX quoted over and over on your alternative choices.
Let FOX go off on its tangents and rants, but stop repeating them. All that does is spread anger and hate against anyone who believes what FOX dishes out, and that is just as counter-productive as what they are spewing. We need to diffuse them by making their news presentations out as irrelevant and out-of-touch. We must not ignore them, but make their advertisers realize that America is fed up with fear-mongering and treasonous comments. If you put pressure on advertisers, you will see how quickly they respond. Just stop telling the message over and over, and soon the messenger has only himself to listen to and he quits.

Watching Network in full is vital, not just the Howard Beale speech. While at the beginning, Beale gains a following with his "Mad as hell" speech, he quickly realizes his ass, like the network's, is owned by the corporate elite (the even more powerful conversation with Ned Beatty's character).
Unlike Beale though, today's media whores are willing shills, paid to divert, disturb, and destroy the minds of the viewing public so that they cannot come to an informed and objective opinion on what is really going in the world and with their lives.
Bringing Alex Jones is an anomaly as his theories are anti-corporate and anti-war (although radically libertarian and conspiratorial). However at least the first half of his Obama Deception video is nothing different than what the critical Left has said about Obama's corporate and military hard right turn.

Particularly in the light of history, President Obama's rapid spending and desire to take control of banks and businesses should cause at least some concern for all conscientious Americans. Fox News being rated number one in viewership ought to wake up some doubters and deniers, even if just a little.
Your authors' paranoia is that they can not tolerate anything or anybody that counters their belief system. They are experts at
"cherry picking" the facts to support their beliefs, often excluding opposing facts. I will conclude that "progressive analysis" is not necessarily truthful, honest or fair analysis, and is not independent analysis as you have claimed to represent.
Now watch the name-calling come in from the radical left who must live at this site.

it's a drumbeat across this country, from Beck to Limbaugh, the usual host of people who truly hate this country
i don't know what their agenda is... maybe they're trying to push the country into a convulsion of violence because they think they can
but these are evil SOBs... Limbaugh is a rotund obese clown, but Beck is an absolute threat to public order
Glenn Beck has crossed the line, he's so far over into militia madness territory, as to almost require somebody to pull the plug on his program
these SOBs need to be silenced, they really do, because they are inciting... this is seditious speech, they want someone to take a shot at Obama, they want people to pickup guns and go into the streets and open fire, they want the kind of chaos... this is how you get it started, you cause chaos in society, and then that gives the government no option to put-down this kind of madness that the right-wingers want to see happen
it's a goddamn enough from these people... this is no longer funny, it isn't, and Glenn Beck should be the first one that's taken behind the barn and had his ass blistered, and told to SHUT UP BOY! go back and play with your whiskey bottles and STOP inciting people to go commit mass murder

Fox News is a house of prostitution and Alex Jones has sold out any credibility he had by appearing on one of their propaganda programs.
There's no such thing as liberals and conservatives - we're all just a bunch of naive idiots thinking we have the ability to choose sides, or choose anything. Democracy is dead. Wake up and smell the corpse.

Glenn Beck is an insane, unhinged demagogue that is inciting violence against the U.S. government and anyone with whom he disagrees.
No liberals are trying to stifle Beck's right to free speech, rather they are exercising their own 1st amendment rights to call out Beck's lies, paranoia, and misinformation.

we hear an audio clip of Glenn Beck fantasizing about killing Michael Moore
(fast-forward to 7:37 to hear the Beck clip)
but first, let's listen to a bit of Michael Savage, the grand-daddy of Conservative Hate Talk radio:
Michael Savage says, "Liberalism is a Mental Disorder, and they [liberals] should be placed in a straightjacket. They are the enemy within our country, an enemy more dangerous than Hitler, and traitors who are dangerous to your survival. Liberalism is in essence the HIV virus and it weakens the defense cells of a nation."
and here's a clip from Savage's MSNBC cable show (now cancelled):
6:18
Savage: "So you're a sodomite... are you one of those sodomites?
Caller: "yes i am"
Savage: "oh, so you're a sodomite... you should only get AIDS and die, ya PIG! how's that, huh? why don't you see IF you can sue me, you pig. you piece of garbage... go eat a 'sausage' and choke on it..."
ok then, so moving right along... let's fast forward to the clip of The Glenn Beck Program:
7:37
Narrator: "Michael Savage isn't the only right-wing talk-radio host who launches blistering, even violent, verbal attacks on people and groups he doesn't like. Glenn Beck, for instance, fantasized about murdering a liberal film-maker."
7:50
Glenn Beck: "I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. I think I could... I think he could be looking me in the eye, ya know, and I could just be choking the life out of him."
so yeah, Glenn Beck... 'nice guy' eh?
In addition to Michael Savage & Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly also get honourable mention for berating and denigrating liberal-minded people.

The real "war for your mind" is going on in the public schools, in our education system. Most of the believers of this nonsense use it as their only source of education, had no decent prior education, no critical thinking skills, and no one willing to take the time to explain the broader reality beond what they hear on fox news and the conspiracy websites. They have a sense that they've been left out of the loop, and they're right about that. The conspiracy against them is just much more subtle than Alex would lead them to believe.
Want to make a difference? Attack these pundits at their base, attack the ignorance that fuels their audience, not through argument, but explaination, and then we can go back to enjoying these shows as we would enjoy the World Weekly News.
p.s. good luck with that one, it's harder than you think.

I guess I need a tin foil hat too. I've studied material from all sides of 911, and it looks suspeciously like a false flag.
Fema camps- Just do some research at government records.
Global one world government- Again global taxes, many leaders are calling for 1 global currency. Global Carbon Tax.
Depopulation- Just read what the "leaders" are calling for and have been quoted saying.
Gun control- Check out Peloski's new call.
Food control- Bill HR845 and it's sister bill.
I could go into detail on each but then again, people should get off the asses and research for themselves. We are nothing short of left brain prisoners, unable to process info ourselves. I seldom read Alternet these days and when I do it is only to see what crap the sheep in the next field are being fed. Neither do I watch Fox or any other "fake news" sound bite shows.

A Danish laboratory reports that it has found evidence of the presence of the explosive thermite in dust recovered from the site of the September 11, 2001 destruction of the World Trade Center. This is the first time that physical evidence of a pyrotechnic used in, among other things, demolition, has been confirmed to be present in the debris.

Beck talks about his life all the time, so even the most casual listener or viewer knows that he grew up in the Seattle area with a serious case of attention deficit disorder... was a major pothead and an alcoholic who downed a gallon of Jack Daniel’s a week.
Beck met his second wife, Tania. As a condition for marrying him, Tania said that she and Beck would have to jointly find a religion that suited both of them. They picked Mormonism, an odd choice considering that it’s the kind of religion where you feel sorry for those poor kids who are born into it and can’t imagine anyone joining it voluntarily.
Beck did the traditional radio bounce-around, doing deejay duty in Washington, Corpus Christi, Baltimore, Houston, Phoenix and Hartford. His career was undistinguished until he subbed for a talk show host and “suddenly realized I’ve been in the wrong format.”
Beck, like Rep. Gary Condit (D-CA), whose sex scandal story evaporated in the heat of the 9/11 flames, was a direct beneficiary of the planes flying into the buildings, since the result was that jingoistic and xenophobic talk show hosts were suddenly in higher demand. The Glenn Beck Program was nationally syndicated and quickly found a very large audience of people eager to believe that ignorant criminals were not running the country.
Newly empowered as a nationally syndicated right-wing radio dick just as White House dick George W. Bush was drumming up support for what would turn out to be the most humiliating, reputation-trashing fiasco in the nation’s history, Beck organized pro-Iraq War “Rally for America” events in 18 cities for his Bush-buddy bosses at Clear Channel
Beck used the forum of the people’s airwaves to go after the Dixie Chicks, who’d had the effrontery to share with a London audience their shame at what was being done in America’s name. He also felt compelled to weigh in on the Terri Schiavo case, leading the charge of rant radio against letting the poor woman die.
In May 2006, Beck’s empire expanded into television when he began hosting the eponymous prime-time hour Glenn Beck on CNN Headline News. Not long after, he declared himself to be “sick of this whole global warming thing.” Beck claims it takes generations before we can tell anything about climate change, so what we should do now is just go about our lives in a business-as-usual fashion and not worry so much about finding out later that we’ve destroyed the planet.
In November 2007, Beck signed a five-year deal with Premiere Radio Networks said to be worth $50 million.
In his 2007 Washington Post profile of Beck, David Segal wrote, “Listen to a few of Beck’s shows and what strikes you most is the enormous ratio of words to substance – how Beck can monologue for minutes at a time and leave behind almost nothing except the impression of great vehemence.”

Nobody can stop 'em, they're having their way with America! They want our GUNS! And if you're not with 'them' [the New World Order] COPS and military... AHHH, then you will declare that you are with the republic now. And don't tell me that I'm a weirdo because I'm upset about this!

You know what it's like to gut-up to this, and go out every day, and go past the peer pressure, and come-out day 1 and say 9/11 was an inside job and lose most of the radio stations I was on? You know what it's like to go to sleep every night knowing that you work for a bunch of psychotic killers?! And you bastards are probably gonna end-up killing me one day! You know what it's like knowing you've RUINED MY LIFE?!! YOU KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE YOU SONS A BITCHES?! I'M TIRED OF YOUR CRAP!!
YOU COMMIT EVIL, YOU'RE PART OF AN EVIL SYSTEM! AND WE'RE STANDING UP AGAINST YOU! AND THE REPUBLIC IS GOING TO DEFEAT YOU IN THE END. Some of us won't make it personally through this, but A LOT OF US ARE! And in the end, YOU ARE GONNA BE BROUGHT TO JUSTICE for all the kids you kidnapped for CPS. All you CPS workers, all you corrupt bureaucrats... all of you who've had your way with innocent children, over & over again, who think your evil is invincible... YOU'RE NOT INVINCIBLE, and GOD is gonna deal with you! And you are CURSED TO HELL!!
Arrrghhh... I'm done, I gotta get outta here... I'm pissed-off now.
