Fox News Is Using the Obamas to Perfect Its Racist Attacks on Black America

By Tolu Olorunda, The Black Commentator. Posted January 29, 2009.

Fox has some help from Juan Williams, its African American go-to guy for black-bashing.

"… The matter is that, when Bill O'Reilly gets Juan Williams, the eternal happy Negro, on his show to congratulate him on his racism, that's like Hugh Hefner getting a stripper to come on the show and tell him that he's not a sexist.” --Syracuse University Professor Boyce Watkins, on CNN (Sept. 26, 2007).

"Over 600,000 people of every color across the country are demanding that Fox stop their racist attacks on the Obama family and on black America. We already know that Fox is not a news network ... Fox poisons this country every time they air racist propaganda and try to call it news." -- Hip-hop artist Nas, with ColorOfChange.org, upon delivering boxes with more than 600,000 anti-Fox News signatures at the network's headquarters.

Very few readers are shocked to hear that Fox News hates the first family, and black people in general. Over the years, but most intensely within the last two, the Roger Ailes-controlled cesspool has unabashedly spewed, propagated and transmitted the most repugnant lies ever heard about President Barack Obama, his family and background.

Readers might recall that it was Fox News which first put out the lie, perhaps giddily, that Obama was schooled in a madrassa -- with the intimation that being so, though untrue, is akin to one blemished with the mark of the beast.

It is also Fox News which has consistently supported such unashamed bigots like Don Imus and Duane "Dog" Chapman. With this backdrop, Fox News has successfully set a record for being the only TV network willing to go as far as the unthinkable suggests -- in favor of accruing ratings.

With the mainstream appeal of Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity, the cable channel has quickly become a leading voice in public discourse. In the last few years, responsible readers have come to realize that, when applied to Fox News, Stan Lee was wrong to think that "with great power comes great responsibility."

Fox has, instead, abused its authority, every step of the way. With the employment of the most reactionary commentators money can buy, Fox has set an insurmountable precedent in attacking anyone on the other side of its neocon agenda. Seeking to broaden its capital in the living rooms of millions around the world, Fox News publicly embraces black commentators, but, as many readers and viewers have noticed, most black commentators and analysts who appear on Fox News are of a very hawkish, right-wing, self-loathing orientation.

Those blacks (and non-blacks) who have the intellect, poise and emotional stability to withstand the sophistry of its anchors are verbally abused and disrespected on the air. It is for this reason that Juan Williams, Larry Elder, the Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, Angela McGlowan, Michael Steele, et al., play the game as safe as possible.

After all, the rewards of doing the master’s wishes are enormous! No, you don’t get your own show, but you get to share the stage, for 4 to 6 minutes (occasionally), with some of the world’s most fascistic-minded pundits ever seen.

Juan Williams, in this field of play, is a veteran athlete, and one of the most skilled.

Williams has, over the years, found it very hard to dissent from Fox News’ unregulated hatred of black people. His ability to remain at the service of his bosses has earned him a special place in O’Reilly's and Hannity’s hearts. A frequent analyst, he is prone to say what he feels is compatible with Fox News’ racist identity. As the African American go-to guy for black-bashing, immigrant-bashing, Iraqi-bashing, Williams knows his role and plays it well. A couple of nights back, on the O’Reilly factor, Williams showed why he’s, after all, Fox News’ golden black boy.

They are bottom dwelling filter feeders and the more attention they get (good or bad) the better they do. Whoever said that there is no such thing as bad publicity had a good point. We validate them with our attention. 600,000 anti Fox signitures? Well THAT is news. They consolidate their base with news like that.

That network is an embarrassment. It is nothing more than a propaganda arm of the RNC. Why is it that so many Americans are taking their nonsense seriously? Is it any wonder that Americans are the stupidest creatures in the entire western hemisphere?

Recently, my brother Jeff visited with his wife and two girls. They live in France and are not acquainted with FOX News. One morning, I have him a little dose of the morning travesty FOX and Friends.

He was speechless.

bill oreilly is not responsible for the woes of poor people, a lot of whom happen to be black in the us. focus on the fact that it's not a black or white thing at all, but an innate lack of spirituality and love that exists at the center of this material f-fest we call civilization, that thing that we all propogate on a daily basis.

perhaps it could be said that oreilly is right about MLK, he loved people first and foremost, and that, ahead of any country color or creed, is the essence of any message whose roots are firmly in love.

No-one has pointed out that Fox is owned by one of most unpleasant creatures to ever crawl out of a festering dung-heap. Murdoch was famous for allegedly telling a senior executive who wanted his own loo "tell him to piss out the window like I do". He has been pissing on all of us and the truth as well for many years. His repulsive tabloid (The Sun) influences UK Government policy on such things as policing and immigration. Nevertheless Murdoch married a Chinese woman and one of his daughters married a Ghanaian. He seems to use - or allow Ailes to use - racism as a weapon when it suits him, as he has used nationality.

The fix in getting the sneaky "Fox" out of the chicken coup is...
Instead of sending boxes of letters onto the door step of Fox Central, redirect them to those companies in which have bought advertising on the network, especially during commercial Break. They are undermining the countries growth and change, and if we as a country should want to slowly and carefully remove the pricks from the cactus. We must hit their pocket books, especially in times like these. The manufacturing companies can not afford any negative publicity on their products during a time of recession. I have suggested many times before; "Fox" is greatly influenced by the Bush Family Inc. The strings are still there and will continue to be there until the puppet is no longer made of gold. Collaborating together, let's change their golden puppet into dead weight, an undesirable rusting iron one instead, the strings will not be able to support the stress and will be quickly cut!

MADRASA = SCHOOL
Posted by: asmb on Jan 29, 2009 8:29 AM
Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Contrary to popular belief, madrasa (transliterated in various ways - madrassa, madarasah, etc.) is simply the Arabic word for school. Many Arabic words have found their way into Indonesia, with the spread of Islam. While a madrasa *can* be a religious school (for becoming a scholar or memorizing the Quran, for instance), it is simply a SCHOOL, not necessarily affiliated with any religion. The root of madrasa is d-r-s which is the verb "to study". Somehow, "madrassa" in its usage during the presidential campaign mutated and narrowed (in the popular understanding) to mean "radical Islamic school", but this interpretation is skewed and imprecise. The New York Times has acknowledged that it incorrectly used the word (though to my mind its apology does not go far enough toward explaining the neutral meaning of the word "madrassa"). http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/24/us/politics/24obama.html

I've often wondered why the progressive community has never called for an all-out boycott of Fox News. Why do progressives or liberals agree to appear on O'Reilly or any other Fox "news" program? I had a conversation with Barry Lind, Exec. Dir. of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, and asked him this question. His response was not encouraging: essentially, we have to go to the enemy in order to sharpen our arguments. Nonsense! Every time a progressive appears on O'Reilly, s/he is validating Fox News.

I would love to see Obama refuse to call on anyone from Fox News at his news conferences. Send a message that we totally reject the racism, sexism, and fascism of Fox.

Does anyone out there agree with me, and how do we implement a boycott?

I realized a long time back that Faux News was just that FAUX! Billo irritates my last nerve, his "facts" are erroneous, he spews forth with ignorance, and such blatant paternalism just makes me nauseous!!

I realize that there are many that do watch, that's sad. It's even sadder that the African-Americans that participate on these types of shows - show so much self-hatred - they should be pitied, pat on the head, and put in the corner sucking on their collective thumbs with a blankie for comfort!

The rest of America that chooses to watch the drivel truly show how dumbed down that this nation has become, and exactly why a savant like GWB could be voted into office! Frankly, I'm all for supporting a boycott of the station and the advertisers, just let me know when and where!!

When reading the text of this law I couldn't believe the first amendment was under such a direct attack. A careful reading reveals that the law doesn't do much on it's own. It funds a committee to look at behavior and then determine if that behavior could incite violence and terror. It's clear to me that this law needs to be applied to the Fox Network and the Murdoch Media Empire.

and was seated in direct view of the television, which someone tuned to Fox. I told the waitress (I had already ordered) that if I come in there again, I would immediately leave if the station was the same. I also told the hostess and the owner. The hostess (obviously mindless) seemed astounded by my view. So I have not been back.

It is disturbing that so many intelligent people think that by ignoring FOX News it will go away. There is real damage being done to our system and to our social fabric that media institutions like FOX News, Rush Limbough, and Anne Coulter promulgate. It should be actively resisted, distasteful and demeaning though it might be to battle in such smelly trenches. We ignore these mud-slinging power-mongers at our own risk.

It is one thing for FOX News et al to claim freedom of speech rights to defend their public expression of opinions and political dissent. I will defend to my death their right to their opinions and their right to express disagreement.

It is quite another thing, though, for FOX News to hide behind the constitutional rights of free speech and a free press as they routinely spew demonstrably false information that moulds public opinion and affects policy. False opinions from trusted institutions spread and multiply, and soon our collective perception of truth and reality is grossly distorted.

There are laws against slander and libel. Perhaps in some cases these laws should be dusted off and put into effect against FOX News. If our present laws do not apply to the species of slander, libel or misrepresentation we have seen from FOX News, then perhaps a new law is needed.

For example, why is it that false testimony in a courtroom is called purgery and can result in jail time, but demonstrably false information spread repeatedly by FOX News over the airwaves to millions is defended as free speech? Horrendous misrepresentations of truth and reality continue to go rampantly unpunished. And, incidently, FOX News isn't the only offender. Wall Street executives lie publicly, corporate executives lie publicly, politicians, etc........

I think we should have a law against public purgery that affects media outlets, public officials, and institutions of trust such as hospitals, businesses and banks.

Freedom of speech, YES!

But freedom of public purgery in positions of public trust? NO!

Our founders believed that democracy, to a great extent, depends on a "well informed public." False and misleading information from institutions of public trust does not create a well-informed public. False and misleading information is regrettably creating money for--and strengthening the destructive influence of--the FOX Newses and Bernie Madoffs of the world. Punishment in such severe cases should be jail time and loss of licence to practice.

We must not simply voice our disgust to FOX, as they care not for what we think. After all, they hate progressives, Democrats and liberals as much as they hate, blacks, hispanics, muslims and arabs. We must contact each and every sponsor and notify them that we will not support or purchase their products. Boycotting is the only thing that will speak to the sponsors and the only thing that will speak to FOX is them losing their sponsors. That is the only thing that matters.

FOX news is pathetic and irresponsible, of course, a terrible excuse for a news network.

On the other hand, there's virtually nothing in the article regarding Juan Williams. One wishes to characterize Juan by a comment or two on one day's show? That's very shortsighted.

This article offered nothing of value, save the reminder that Fox News is so lacking.

As an Australian I can tell you Murdoch has backed political parties of both left and right persuasions, so he isn't simply an ideologue.
He is an unprincipled scoundrel though, who will sell his printing presses and pixels to the highest bidder, no matter what the damage he does to the "common good."

And that's the secret. The airwaves are regulated by the FCC---until recently firmly in Republican hands---as a part of the "commons" owned collectively by every American. To use these "commons" for the profit of a few at the expense of the many is a regulatory problem that's easily fixed.

In Australia we can work to fix it each morning through the parliamentary system, whereas here in America we can only fix it once every two/four years. BUT, in either case, if we the owners---we the people--- stay asleep at the switch, playing the part of absentee landlords, opportunists like Rupert the Rapist will plunder and pillage, making out like bandits, at the expense of us all.

So wake up America, write, email or phone your recently elected representative and start demanding public accountability for the "renters" of our airwaves. They become the tenants from hell when they sub-lease our airwaves to the Hannitys Limbaughs, Becks, Savages, etc.

Start demanding the new head of the FCC strike a suitable balance between the right to "free speech" and accountability for a public trust. I can tell you, Rupert's name would be brought up in Australia's parliament if he used the airwaves down under in the same way as he does here. If you don't---well America, you deserve the little parasite that we in Australia were delighted to get rid of.

I worked on Capitol Hill in the 1980s when the Reagan Administration tried to end affirmative action. Interestingly, Juan Williams was the reporter who always ran articles claiming that affirmative action was "quotas" and reporting on information obtained from the Administration. It was clear that he was the voice of the Reaganites, even when what he reported was untrue. The law is clear that affirmative action abhors quotas, but since the 1980s, the public has been confused by Juan's obfuscation of the facts. We will not forget. Thanks Juan!

The first amendment is for everyone. In a free society no one is over criticism. I know we have lost sight of this fact being subjected to the last eight years of the neo-fascist Bush adminstration. Meanwhile, we must not give FOX News any fuel for their fire by reacting to their stupidity. I suspect this and other episodes are attempts to boost their poor rating.. However, it is not surprising that they are launching such attacks on Obama. I hold to the old saying, that you can't effectively fight an enemy you don't know exist or you can't locate. Therefore, I well all of those who continue perpetuate the cultural construct of racism and out display there prejudices.

Sorry, but you're not telling black people what we already know. The thing is what will the REST of America DO about it? It's not enough for black people to be upset, but for everyone who cares about ending racism to take a stand.

Personally, I think there are way too many Americans who buy into Faux's racial bigotry. These are the very same people who cannot for the life of them understand how this country ended up with a black president because as far as they know (which isn't much) black people aren't that intelligent or that hard-working. It's gotten to be so ridiculous that Ann (Please Feed Me) Coulter is demanding that President Obama acknowledge his "white side", in order to make his success more palatable to those who hate blacks.

Until Faux is rendered null and void, the attacks on black people will continue.

What about CNN and MSNBC's racist attacks on Black America, via the Obama's?

Why is everyone looking beyond, and it's irrelevant whether intentionally ignorant or not, the fact that the so-called, 'liberal' stations are attacking Black America by using the Obama's?

If I have to listen to Soledad O'brien's hatespeak about errant Black fathers one more time, I may go deaf. Or how the Obama's present a new model of respectability for all those 'poor, dumb Negroes.' The Obama's have come to hallmark the elevation by white liberals of their own version of what a house Negro should be, pandering to neo-liberal economics and war strategies that still characterize 'business as usual.'

Get off your soapbox about Fox, we all know they're idiots, they're a veritable straw man.

I believe the correct term for blacks like Juan Williams is Uncle Tom: Yessa, massa, whateva you say massa! I wish the author would just come out and say it. The only thing lower than a N----- is an Uncle Tom. Go ahead, say it: Uncle Tom!
