Watch: John Oliver Lambasts Republicans for Wanting Immigration Reform for All the Wrong Reasons

John Oliver expressed a good amount of skepticism last night about the fact that Congress—which is currently in a three-way nail-biter for the least popular branch of government—is currently on the brink of accomplishing—as improbable as it seems—something.
That something is immigration reform. And Republicans, especially are looking to pass it for all the right reasons. Cut to a clip of Lindsey Grahan saying that Republicans are in a "Demographic Death Spiral." Hence, they have to do something to at least look like they are helpful to Latinos. It's simple mathematics, nothing to do with helping people or doing the right thing. The legislation, adds Oliver, is a "win-win. Good for Republicans because they think it will win them Hispanic votes, and good for the Democrats because it will actually win them Hispanic votes."
And, like all seismographic change in this country, says the British sub for Jon Stewart, it is being done "with great reluctance." Heartwarming.
