Under Guise of "War on Terror," Assault on American Muslims Still in Full Swing

By David L. Ostendorf, Imagine 2050. Posted October 23, 2009.

The civil liberties of American Muslims are regularly assaulted and the religious rights of faithful peoples are casually trampled.

Relatively unseen, unknown, and definitely unabated, the assault on U.S. Muslims continues under the government’s “war on terror” and the political right’s war on Islam. The outcomes of both are unconscionable as the civil liberties of American Muslims are assaulted and the religious rights of faithful peoples are trampled.

For a nation rooted in the principle of religious liberty, the smothering arc of religious intolerance has been long and despicable. From the western frontier to the New Frontier Christians themselves have fought and refought theological and cultural battles for dominance in the uniquely American religious marketplace. The toughest of those fights were instigated and waged by Protestants against Catholics—with anti-Catholicism an ideological bedrock stretching from “proper” Protestants to the Ku Klux Klan. As recently as 1960 the anti-Catholic mantra played a role in the Presidential campaign of John F. Kennedy, the first Catholic ever elected to the office.

To this day the notion prevails that the U.S. was established as a “Christian nation,” precipitating the harsh and ever-present fog of anti-Semitism and—now—the assault on Muslims. While constituting less than one percent of the U.S. population, Muslims are the focus of extensive FBI surveillance and monitoring in communities across the country. The Somali community in Minneapolis and St. Paul, for example, has been subjected to deep scrutiny for months, following the return of some of its youth to repel the Ethiopian occupation of their homeland. After the U.S. tied their recruitment to an alleged al-Queda-linked group, problems began. Somalis are now routinely stopped on the streets, in airports and schools, and not even mosques and “home visits” are out of bounds. A cloud of suspicion hangs over the community and, according to one leader, the government “has created more fear than it has solved the problem.”

Last week four Members of Congress—three of them members of the anti-immigrant House Immigration Reform Caucus—joined the chorus to expose the supposed “dangers” of Islam and U.S. Islamic organizations. Touting a new publication by white nationalist and ardent Islamophobe, Dave Gaubatz, the Members dutifully called for an investigation of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) for “infiltrating” (with intern “spies”) Congressional judiciary, homeland security, and intelligence committees. Representative Sue Myrick of North Carolina—whose anti-Islamic “Wake Up America” agenda called for an investigation of CAIR in 2008—wrote the foreword to “Muslim Mafia.” Ironically, the book is based largely on documents taken from CAIR by co-author Chris Gaubatz, who himself infiltrated the organization by way of an internship. On his “Society of Americans for National Existence” website (ironically, SANE) the elder Gaubatz asserts that “America was the handiwork of faithful Christians, mostly men, and almost entirely white,” revealing his nationalistic core and ignoring the religious freedom that the founders (some of whom were Deists, not Christians) guaranteed in the Constitution.

If in power, Muslim discriminate against Chirstians and Jews, quash civil liberties, and ruthlessly supppress women. As America transforms from a failed liberal democracy to a republic of order and values based on Roman republican structure, the Muslims can and will go back to the savage lands of the MidEast from whence they came. Likewise, their ironically similar cousin, the Orthodox Jews, should depart to the fascist state of Israel where they will find bliss and comfort. As America and its dollar sink, we will slowly but surely eliminate "civil liberties" and its putative advocates like Morris Dees, the ACLU, and so called "AntiDefamation" League. Freedom of speech and religion does not mean the exercise of power to suppress long held customs of ordinary folk, both secular and Christian.

a few months ago, 5 members of a charity group of american citizens were imprisoned for raising funds for those in the concentration camp of gaza. they were tried as supporting terrorists by the USG which itself supports israeli terrorism and also runs the notorious 'school of the americas' training center for terrorists, torturers and death squads for the past 60 years. raising funds for AIPAC, however, is not such a crime, even though they've been implicated in several spying ventures against the USG. pelosi and harman, both ardent supporters of the 'holy war' against moslems and the unconstitutional surveilance were even caught by the surveilance system they supported agreeing to help AIPAC keep israelis out of prison when a CIA agent was already going to prison for a decade for helping them spy on the USG. obama was a 'pro-palestinian until AIPAC donated to his senate campaign. how many US officials are not bribed by AIPAC?

moslems are to the 4th reich what jews/gays and other 'undesirables' were to the 3rd reich. as hitler and most fascists realize, it is necessary to have an enemy abroad and a scapegoat group at home to attack and use as boogie men or their publics would turn on them, instead. as hitler said, "if it weren't for the jews; i'd've had to invent them."

also of note, re the catholic thing... read recently that 6 of the sitting justices on teh supreme court, all catholic, attended a roman catholic event at which abortion rights were assailed. while they have the right to do so as a basic 1st amendment matter... it does bear thought that the american revolutionaries were afraid of precisely such papist or episcopalian influence.

also note that the few surviving 'indians' in the concentration camp reservations were often forced at gunpoint to go to 'christian' churches...

The Islamic ideology is incompatible with Democracy, freedom, and human rights. Islam is the enemy of free people. Should we allow it to flourish here, like a parasite feeding off of a host, exploiting our freedoms that they hate to work against our interests ? Recruiting terrorists, collecting money for terrorism .That kind of thinking has England and the rest of Europe in the mess it's in with it's Muslim invaders. I say NO to the stealth jihad. Let them keep their stone age culture in their stone age countries. I wish that we could do away with all superstitions(religion) .This one in particular is the worst.

What a load of bilge water, as my father used to say...

the first four posts here are blatant sales attempts and not worthy of comment, however, the last three are just the kind of thinking that the Christian Minister who wrote this article about in the first place was talking about.

Islam not compatible with a free democracy? That is just plain crazy. Many of the principles of a free society are embraced by the Muslim communities around the world, and by those Muslims who live here in the States.

A Christian Nation? My mother's family came over the Mayflower and that is about as Christian a founding as you can get, so I guess I can speak for them. They believed in one God and they believed in the precepts of the Christian faith. Many of my ancestors probably took part in the persecution of both Jews and Catholics, and were probably involved in the attacks on Native American beliefs. They also signed and supported both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. I had hoped that in our Modern America we were past these kinds of insane activities and were actually prepared to practice what we preach to the rest of the world - freedom of religion. But, based on these three other posts, I guess not. This is about tolerance for issues of faith that should have a place in any free society.

Yet, those who speak out against all Muslims for the acts of a few of their number are no better than those who painted all Blacks as Black Panthers or all feminists as Lesbians or those who support pro-choice as being killers. These stereotyping attitudes are what lead us into wars and others to acts of terrorism against us. We do not need hate speech at this time, we need reasoned, educated, tolerant discourse and acceptance.

The Muslims are not on some holy jihad here in the States. Are there those who dislike us among American Muslims, of course there are, but why shouldn't there be? We have treated them like second class citizens; denigrated their religion and ethnic cultures; attacked them in the media, in person, and in our governmental priorities. We have allowed our leaders to preach against them in an attempt to keep us cowed so that they could wage unending wars to profit a select few in this nation, not for political freedom or religious conversion, but for profits and power.

Wait, except for the religion and ethnic culture thing - the government has been doing the same thing to the rest of us and using the Muslims to act as a justification! Wake up, America, we are being used and treated as stupid again!

We are a nation that allows people to believe in whatever faith they choose to, or not choose to believe in. When we attack one group because of what their fanatics have done, then we diminish who we are. If we were a truly Christian nation, following the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth rather than xenophobic bigoted preachers, we would not be attacking those who follow Mohammad, but rather we would be seeking dialogue with them and joining them in their condemnation of the fanatics in both religions. Yes, we have fanatics in the Christian faith as well, you need only look as far as Rod Parsley or John Hagee and the current rash of fundamentalist/end-of-days crowd to find them, and they are just as dangerous as any member of Al Quaida ever thought of being, and they have been around a lot longer than Al Quaida as a threat to this nation. Oklahoma City was proof of the kind of domestic terrorism we are capable of, not just Muslims.

So follow the advice of this minister, stop this insanity. We need as a nation to unite, and look past what makes us all different and unique and start looking at what will actually make us a United States of America again. This means laying down the bigotry and religious zealotry and finding compassion and understanding, commonality (not conversion) in faith and peace in the land of the free.

Circular reasoning: Another favorite when it comes time to deliver bad news. In circular reasoning, a problem is posited and a reason is given. Except that the reason is basically just a rewording of the problem. Pretty nifty. Here are some examples to better explain the examples: 'Our profits are down because of [a decrease
in revenues].' 'People were laid off because there was a
surplus of workers.' ... Rhetorical questions: The questions
that ask for no answers. So why even ask the question? Because it makes it seem as though the listener is participating in a true dialogue. When your boss asks, 'Who's staying late tonight?' you know he really means, 'Anyone who wants to keep their job will work late.' Still, there's that split second when you think you have a
say in the matter, when you believe your opinion counts. Only to be
reminded, yet again, that no one cares what you think. . Hollow statements: The second cousin of circular reasoning. Hollow statements make it seem as though something positive is happening (such as better profits or increased market share), but they
lack any proof to support the claim. 'Our company is performing better than it looks.' 'Once productivity increases, so will
profits.' ...
Whether it's pulling out of the market because you're panicked about a drop in the Dow (and potentially losing out on long-term gains) or co-signing a loan because you feel badly for a family member who's down on his or her luck (and potentially being stuck with a loan you can't afford to repay if he or she defaults on it) do your financial due diligence and get an expert second opinion before you risk making a choice that's going to cost you in the long run.
The Bottom Line
Keep these warnings in mind when managing your money and you could avoid making costly mistakes. The information is out there, so don't be afraid to ask for advice and do your research before jumping in.
Command of English, spoken or written, ranks at the top in business. Our main product is words, so a knowledge of their meaning and spelling and pronunciation is imperative. If a man knows the language well, he can find out about all else.

This article shows that intolerance is common among all Abrahamic religions. Christians, Muslims, Jews come from the same roots and share the same beliefs...but hate each other! Like it or not, the world population is becoming mud-blood so we'd better learn to live with everyone.
