Anti-Immigration Hardliner Goes Ballistic Over Obama's Answers on the Issue

By Kyle Hussein de Beausset, The Sanctuary. Posted September 29, 2008.

The head of the Center for Immigration Studies goes nuts over Obama questionnaire.

Surprise. Surprise.

Mark Krikorian found Obama's answers to the questionnaire sent to the candidates by The Sanctuary.

Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor, Your Same-Sex Couples [Mark Krikorian]

Obama's answers to a questionnaire on immigration

from a hard-left group are mostly unremarkable - he backs the procedure supporters call "comprehensive immigration reform," does not necessarily oppose raids and detention of illegals so long as they're done humanely, etc. (h/t Jennifer McFadyen) But one thing that I suppose I should have known but didn't is that he supports the "Uniting American Families Act," which would extend spousal immigration rights to same-sex couples. So now McCain has two extreme Obama positions on immigration to attack: driver's licenses for illegals and immigration for gay couples. Will McCain ever use them to criticize Obama? No - he'll just keep criticizing Obama for being too weak in support of amnesty.

For a little history on Mark Krikorian, he came to Boston University some time ago with Lou Barletta where he was beaten badly in a debate about U.S. migration policy.

>I attended the debate and it inspired one of my first posts about "attrition through enforcement".  Mark Krikorian, through his reactionary Center for Immigration Studies, a spin-off of the hate group FAIR, has been one of the primary architects behind the concept of "attrition through enforcement".

Attrition through enforcement is one of the most horrific policies being carried out in the U.S. today.  Nativists know that they cannot deport every unauthorized migrant in the U.S.  Instead, they've decided on a policy of making unauthorized migrants in the U.S. so miserable that they leave on their own, which they call "attrition through enforcement".  Nativists like Mark Krikorian want make conditions for migrants in the U.S. worse than the majority world conditions they are fleeing from.

Mark Krikorian promotes a policy of mass misery in the U.S., and then he feels he has the right to chide Obama for his "extreme" positions.  What's worse, drivers's licenses for unauthorized migrants and allowing binational same-sex couples to stay together, or policy that reminds me of that of the brutal dictarships of Central America?

The good news is that even if nativists make a huge deal about Obama's answers to The Sanctuary's questionnaire, it won't matter.  Nativists have rendered themselves electorally irrelevant in the presidential elections.  They all hate McCain anyway and many have explicitly endorsed nativist extraoardinaire Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party.

Already Obama's decision to answer The Sanctuary's questionnaire has paid dividends for the campaign.  It's been covered by About.com, Reuters, and New America Media, CNN, as well as by the Latino and pro-migrant netroots in a way that paints McCain very negatively.  Most importantly, this message is getting to the Latinos that will decide this election, with Spanish language newspapers like El Planeta reprinting Obama's answers in full.

Complain all you want Mark Krikorian, it won't do you any good.

Digg!

Whatever "illegals" there are, their impact on the US economy pales when compared to the 'legal' high tech 'visa holders' from India. Interestingly enough, the devastation wrought by corporate outsourcing, Congressional complicity, and fraudulent practices by Indian companies has scarcely been researched or reported on. However, those practices, which continue unabated have gutted a significant sector or middle and upper middle income and professional high classification in the US. complete new cities have been built in India from the rapacious practices. Focussing on the 'illegals' from Latin America is a distraction. Historically, they are simply recouping the economic devatation the US has wrought on their countries.

When the demographics catch up to us? What the fuck does that mean? My guess is that you are deeply ignorant, racist person. That's just a guess, though.

While both candidates have expressed their desire for comprehensive immigration reform, it odes not mean they are going to get it.

I personally think that comprehensive immigration reform will happen mostly because the general public is just tired of it and they want it resolved.

But this so called bailout that congress is working on now received more calls against than immigration reform. Congress received calls on comp immigration reform at a ratio of 1000: 1 AGAINST.

Keeping gay marriages together shouldnt even be an issue. It should be something thrown in during the negotiation process.

To raise it beforehand is only giving the forces against immigration reform more reason to dig in.

These people do not want straight couples to become legal citizens, why on earth would they want to let in gay couples?

why should comprehensive immigration reform be sacked because of a few gay couples?

I know how that sounds. But, honestly, why should 12 million people lose their opportunity to become citizens because a of few gay couples?

Mexico only allowed gay marriage last year. Exactly how many gay migrant couples are there?

Like I said, this should be raised in the negotiations. This shouldn't be one of the demands.

I don't even think this should be a demand because "it's the right thing to do."

The right thing to do is to get the 12 million on a path to citizenship.

But I think it should be done a different way.

The enforcement should be on employers who employ illegal immigrants. If you enforce employement laws, so that employers who violate them are miserable (or better yet, bankrupt), then illegals will have not motives to be here. They'll deport themselves.

As for the gay marriage clauses? I don't give a damn, as long as they are treating gay marriages exactly the same as straight marriages.

Driver's licenses for illegals? That's just plain stupid. It fails the "common sense" check. I dare you to find anyone in favor of drivers licenses for illegals who is also not in favor of open borders.

Just a brief note to point out that when the "illegals" are driven out, there is absolutely no history of American's lining up for the jobs. This is a fantasy. Elimination of all "illegal" immigrants , without a backup plan for workers visa, would be a nightmare and would fall under the category of the old idiom, "be careful what you wish for, you could get it!"
