Mainstream Media Attends -- Then Ignores -- U.S. Caravan for Peace
Obviously the pain of mourning Mexican mothers was deemed to be just too much for the viewers of US television networks.
The Caravan for Peace, Justice and Dignity just finished a 32 day journey across the US, from San Diego to Washington DC. With stops in 24 other US cities along our southern border including El Paso, and Houston with swings to Atlanta, on to the terrorist training center at Ft. Benning up through Chicago, NYC and down to our nations capitol.
I was there with these “caravanistas” driving the LEAP mobile as the only speaker from Law Enforcement Against Prohibition to make this 7,000 mile journey. Lots of Mexican media was there, recording and reporting for the daily coverage that blanketed the print and broadcast media in Mexico. I carried my HD camera and recorded lots of “B roll” that captured the logos on the news cameras that were at each day's events. ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and FOX were at many of these events that featured absolute horror stories of death, loss, kidnappings and disappearances that impact Mexico on a daily basis.
A minimum of 60,000 drug prohibition related deaths have been recorded in Mexico in the last 5 years of Calderon's presidency and at least 10,000 others have been “disappeared”. Yes, a few stories broke in local markets but not one word was shared via national news programs in the US.
The Caravan for Peace was led by Mexican poet Javier Secilia who lost his son to the unabated violence of drug cartel madness. Given that agents of these same cartels are now in place in more than 1,000 US cities, seeking to take over the retail trade in our nation, increasing the violence as is so obvious in Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore and many other cities including our nations capitol, I must ask why is the knowledge of the horrors of drug prohibition being ignored by the “4th estate”?
The consequences of this eternal war, declared by Richard Nixon more than 40 years ago impact nearly every aspect of life on this planet. We empower our terrorist enemies if they will but grow the flowers we forbid. Prohibition of drugs ensures that these barbarous Latin cartels will last forever, no matter how many #1's we lock behind bars. Drug war gives reason for the existence of more than 30,000 violent US gangs with over a million gang members prowling our neighborhoods with high powered weapons, selling contaminated drugs to our children at a 17,000% markup.
So what is the benefit, what have we derived from this policy that offsets this horrible blowback? 40 dead Mexicans every day, butchered and beheaded in the name of drug war. 5,000 Americans arrested every day of the week for plant products in their pockets.
A billion dollars a week being spent by the US Govt to stop the flow of drugs. Each week the Mexican cartels make a billion dollars to continue the flow of drugs. Will we ever convince every last Mexican to stop fighting to be the CEO of that organization?
Surely the major media in the US has a reason for their silence in this regard. Perhaps some day they will share that information with the populace they claim to represent.
