Colbert Grills Chris Hayes on New Book, the Demise of the Elite—and Neckties

MSNBC host Chris Hayes has written a new book called Twilight of the Elites: America After Meritocracy—which Stephen Colbert finds slightly suspect. For one, Colbert wonders of Hayes, his show guest from last week, isn't Chris Hayes part of the media elite? Hayes is a great sport for Colbert's spoofy goading, admits his title is more aspirational than actual—if only the elites were in a twilight—and ribs Colbert back for not using the subway 15 stops from his studio. Most importantly, Hayes indicts the "colossal and catastrophic failure by the pillar institutions in the country... and the effects of that, the costs of it, are not borne by the Stephen Colberts of the world... they're borne by the people who are 15 stops away." Then Colbert calls him a populist. It's pretty great! Watch via Huffington Post here:
