Another Stupid, Racist Comment by the Republicans? Say It Aint So
The GOP just can't seem to stop themselves. The latest offensive and stupid thing to come out of the mouth of a Republican elected official were the words "Amen, Ed, thank you for your support." Written in an email by South Carolina state representative Alan Clemmons, this comment sounds innocuous at first. But check out the comment that made him praise the Lord.
A supporter named Ed Koziol wrote to the representative first saying that he was glad of the voter suppression laws that Clemmons had drafted. He then commented that the government shouldn't offer a reward for people to obtain voter ID cards because, in his words, "It would be like a swarm of bees going after a watermelon."
And the representative's response? "Amen, Ed."
The email exchange was first printed in McClatchy Newspaper after it was leaked by a civil rights group, and it is only one of a string of racially offensive things to surface during the Republican National Convention.
Yesterday, two attendees were booted from the convention after allegedly throwing nuts at a CNN camerawoman, who was black, and taunting her: "This is how we feed the animals."
Meanwhile, Clemmons' voter suppression law was recently declared discriminatory by the Supreme Court. And now the law's opponents have the email exchange to prove it.
