It's a race to the bottom. For misinformation and cruelty, not to mention plain old dreadful manners, it is so hard to beat Rush Limbaugh. We can only measure the Great Blowhard against himself.

Even by Limbaugh standards, his recent attack on Michael J. Fox, the actor [VIDEO], is several levels lower than tacky. Fox, who has Parkinson's disease, has done some political ads favoring candidates who in turn support stem cell research.

"He is exaggerating the effects of the disease," Limbaugh told his listeners. "He is moving all around and shaking, and it's purely an act. This is really shameless of Michael J. Fox. Either he didn't take his medication or he's acting. This is the only time I've ever seen Michael J. Fox portray any of the symptoms of the disease he has."

The reaction from Parkinson's experts was swift and angry. "It's a shameless statement," said John Rogers of Parkinson's Action Network. "It's insulting. It's appallingly sad, at best."

So then Limbaugh, big-hearted guy, says while still on the air in the same broadcast: "Now, people are telling me they have seen Michael J. Fox in interviews and he does appear in the same way in the interviews as he does in this commercial. ... All right, then, I stand corrected. ... So I will bigly, hugely admit that I was wrong, and I will apologize to Michael J. Fox if I am wrong in characterizing his behavior on this commercial as an act ... ."

Then Limbaugh went on to say, "Michael J. Fox is allowing his illness to be exploited and in the process is shilling for a Democrat politician."

Exploiting his disease by pushing for a cure. Gee, I never thought of that. Do you think the late Christopher Reeve was faking it? Is Nancy Reagan exploiting her late husband?

If that isn't disgusting enough, let's take a look at a new ad running against Harold Ford Jr. of Tennessee in the U.S. Senate race. You can find it on the Internet, and I think you'll be amazed [VIDEO]. The ad strings together a series of ridiculous "positions" (e.g., "Canada can take care of North Korea") and a stacked blonde claiming she met Ford at a Playboy party. "Harold, call me," she coos.

The NAACP and other groups popped up immediately to point out that the babelicious blonde raises the old racist scare tactic about black men and white women. I thought the whole ad was racist. Ugh. "Heh, heh, let's make fun of how dumb the coon is."

Ford has been a member of Congress for 9 years and is well respected in his party. The ad is attributed to the Republican National Committee, which now disowns it. That denial comes from Ken Mehlman, who used his time at the White house to do favors for clients of Jack Abramoff.

I notice a similar talking point in use again, with the right-wing punditry united as one in their dismissal of Rep. Nancy Pelosi as among "the most disliked" in Congress, although rather obviously she is more than usually popular with her own party.

One way to dismiss her is to call her "a San Francisco Democrat," which I suppose means she's not prejudiced against gays. But with Reps. Foley and Kolbe in the news, it's not a good year for Republicans to take that line of attack.

And elsewhere, former Food and Drug Administration chief Lester Crawford, who resigned two months after his confirmation, has just pleaded guilty to hiding his ownership in food and drug companies "regulated" by his agency.

I realize it is difficult to keep up with the degree of Republican sleaze around these days, but I did like President Bush's celebration of National Character Counts Week. He went to Pennsylvania to support Rep. Don Sherwood, who is being sued for repeatedly beating his mistress.

Digg!

Devoid of Conscience

I wonder what it's like to have no conscience at all. No inner voice to tell you that you're acting like a pig. No sense of right and wrong. To be so used to telling lies that you can no longer tell the difference between truth and falsehood. My Mom raised me to do the right thing, and if not, to feel some old-fashioned Lutheran guilt. Rush obviously labors under no such restrictions.

Was his Mom a bad mom? Did she fail to instill in him any kind of moral compass? Was he abused? Did he torture small animals as a child? Or, fat load of a drug addict that he is, is his brain simply addled with narcotics and cholesterol plaque? Or did he sell his soul to the Devil?

I'd really like to know how he got this way. I can't imagine operating the way he does, smearing people with serious illnesses, dumping on people with the same addictions he has - popping pills all the while. Lying routinely. It's like a part of what makes up a normal person is simply missing in this guy.

I recall seeing a biography piece about Hermann Goering, in which they summed up the man as an amoral sociopath who literally felt no sympathy for anyone else and no remorse for what the Nazi regime had done - he couldn't, because he was incapable of it. The only thing that mattered to Goering was Goering. Rush, I guess, is exactly that kind of guy (even physically!)

He might make an interesting psychological study.

But I'd rather see him stuffed and mounted in a trophy case.

In the immortal words of Monty Python:

"It's the end of Civilization as we know it!"

Sadly, it truly is..............

Like so many, once great, civilizations in History before us, we are on the decline. And we have the same "elephants" to blame for the rise of their Sacred Trinity: Power, Hate, and Greed!

I wish that I could forgive them "...for they know not what they do."

But they DO know what they are doing --- and they don't care anymore.

And as the Truth is "...twisted by knaves" there are too many fools trapped into believing lies from a pack of liars!

It IS the beginning of the end.

U.S. ranked #53 for press freedom

reporters sans frontieres:

The United States (53rd) has fallen nine places since last year, after being in 17th position in the first year of the Index, in 2002. Relations between the media and the Bush administration sharply deteriorated after the president used the pretext of “national security” to regard as suspicious any journalist who questioned his “war on terrorism.” The zeal of federal courts which, unlike those in 33 US states, refuse to recognise the media’s right not to reveal its sources, even threatens journalists whose investigations have no connection at all with terrorism.

Freelance journalist and blogger Josh Wolf was imprisoned when he refused to hand over his video archives. Sudanese cameraman Sami al-Haj, who works for the pan-Arab broadcaster Al-Jazeera, has been held without trial since June 2002 at the US military base at Guantanamo, and Associated Press photographer Bilal Hussein has been held by US authorities in Iraq since April this year.

All Rush Limbah humbug is good for is rushing precipitately into sleazy bullshit at the slightest provocation. Sometimes he needs no provocation at all, he just blabs on and on about issues he is completely ignorant on or viciously partisan on. He is the prime reason I don't even listen to radio any more.

This bloated hog, who is listened to by millions of ignorant and bigoted people, oinks again and causes a scandal. If people like his opinions, it is because they share them and we have a huge percentage of our population who think like him. The Bushies, the Bible Thumpers, the non-thinking dropouts, the fag bashers, the KKKs, the Aryan Race, the Fred Phelps, the Warmongers, the
Christians..yes, the latter group which follow like sheep Bush and his cohorts because they believe it is a way to convert our country into a Theocracy like the Muslims want in their countries.
Remember, Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall. We are putting one up and it will cost billions, as if we had all that money at our disposal. There have been horrible dictators in the world who were illiterate. Bush is right up among them.

What I find amazing is that someone hasn't taken a bat to Limbaughs head for all of the problems he has cost ou as a society.
They have been at war with Ameirca (why? I don;t know) since Reagan stole the office and began the hostile takeover of American society at large. It' way past time someone has faught back against the drug addicted viagra taking Dominican child pedophiliac named Rush. The damage by him has been done.

FIGHT OR DIE.

Devoid of Conscience

Republicans and Conservatives in particular are devoid of conscience. That is the secret of their success in their personal lives and in politics. They have no scruples whatsoever. Their every word and action is aimed at taking advantage of others. Racism, intolerance, selfishness, greed and hatemongering has served them well, but it is destroying our country.

Unless we can rally enough decent people to recognize this fact and to fight these sociopaths, our country is doomed. I believe decent people outnumber sociopaths, but they are frightened of the Rabid Right.

Proverbs: “When evil rises, men hide.”

In a sense, we are all Bill Moyer shoved into ring to fight Mike Tyson, “to the death.”

There is no place to hide. Our choice is fight or die.

Only a radio entertainer

Rush Limbaugh is a radio entertainer, and he does very well financially by it. He is not a politician, and has never run for any elected office. He has never been offered a government appointed position. He is not even a journalist.

I did used to listen to Rush Limbaugh before Dubya was president - I laughed at some of the parody songs about Bill Clinton's dalliances, but that is just my anti-establishment nature showing through.

We would all do well to distinguish between entertainment and serious political commentry.

These disgusting bastards will sink as low as they possibly can in order to retain the congress. Count on this: The First Fool will try to initiate some hideous "October Surprise" to frighten the masses into "stayin the course" of the GOP's muderous agenda. Don't fall for it.

God help this country if we have to suffer through another two years of a Republican controlled Congress. For an excellent glimpse into the disgusting machinations of the 109th Congress, Check out the article by Matt Taibbi in the latest issue of Rolling Stone Magazine. It's called, "Inside The Worst Congress Ever" and is well-worth the price.

Election Day is only eleven days away, kiddies! We've got to do EVERYTHING humanly possible to take our country back from these hideous bastards. To quote the late Mayor Daley, "Vote early and vote often"!

OK, Mr Limbaugh is a mean spirited, loud mouthed, junkie, fraud & a prime example of how evolution, all too often, produces sports which show that humankind may have risen from rodents, not monkeys. Ms Ivans has the advantage of wit when profiling & analyzing creatures like Mr Limbaugh, which most of us lack.
Mr Limbaugh may be writhing in joy at the attention he's getting & devouring all of the feces & compost we, his critics, are heaping upon him/her/it. His fans, aka ditto heads, shower him with soiled sympathy upon him/her/it. Mr Limbaugh & the ditto heads aren't being paranoid when they proclaim they are hated; they are being paranoid when they complain that the hatred is unjust. Nobody likes rats & the feces & rot that rats eat & live in.
Molly Ivans is better than most of us in her dispoal of rodents & inspiring us to remove the muck rodents eat & live in. Yes, I envy Molly Ivans & her well honed wit. Damn, she's good.

It's probably good that Rush and O'Reilly and these other retrofitted, bigotted boobs came on the scene when they did, lest we lapse into the delusion that mankind has evolved further than it actually has. They have called forth the minions of mysophilia and they are legion. Well, it seems like there's a lot of them anyway. But then talk radio is the pantry of the greasy spoon that the media has become. No one but the hillbilly busboy went back there for years and the place got infested with cockroaches. Once they became emboldened by each other they migrated into the diner itself and now it's hard to look away and ignore them. And we really shouldn't until the place has been cleaned and disinfected.

Keep smacking them where you see them, and get that busboy a raise in minimum wage, some healthcare and a clean apron, there may be hope for him yet. I know. it's a tough job, especially since so many in Congress have developed a taste for cheap, greasy fare. And you're going to get your hands a little messy, but it beats dying of some awful disease in a rundown mobile home cuz you can't afford antibiotics, don't it? Shower frequently and take your vitamins, it'll be okay. We can't all move to Canada, they're too smart to let us.

I don't listen to Rush on the radio but somebody gave me a fabulous silk scarf he designed. At the time you could find his entire collection of scarves and neckties online, and I was (reluctantly) impressed with his designs. I'm not so sure Rush is straight, and I'm convinced his drug experimentation goes way beyond painkillers because some of these scarves and ties looked more like something you'd see in the Jerry Garcia collection than what you'd expect from a guy like Rush.

Don't Knock good ole Rush. He's following in the American tradition of snake oil salesman. He makes a living, a damn good one, re-enforcing the fears and filling in the blank spots in the feeble minds of millions and millions of people. These people do not agree with the Limbaugh point of view; that would imply an independent thought process. These people let Rush do their thinking for them. The job is just too much for them. They want a simple, black and white, fairy tale view of the world, and Rush gives it to them. Bible banging preachers fill the same void, in the same people. These people run from intellectualism and scientific objectivity. Shades of grey terrify them. Good and evil are seperate and distinct from one another.
It is these legions of dopes that frighten me. Take Rush Limbaugh away from them and another huckster, snake oil salesman, like George Bush, will take his place.

MJ Fox shilling for Democrats only?

"Then Limbaugh went on to say, "Michael J. Fox is allowing his illness to be exploited and in the process is shilling for a Democrat politician.""...

4 years ago, Michael J. Fox went on the air for Arlen Specter because he supported stem cell research. He's been very consistent in supporting candidates who take this position, not just Democratic candidates who do. I wish this point could be brought out more.

Democrats seem to have huge momentum and appear to have leads in most congressional races, but there are 2 potential Republican bombs that scare me greatly: Saddam's execution 2 days before the election, which can then be used to justify another Diebold-fueled election "upset."

Do the Democrats have enough votes to overcome this?

I'd be interested to hear from any Parkinson's/MS/Alzheimers/ sufferers who also happen to be Republicans against stem cell research. Somehow I imagine the list is pretty short. The only way to make these self centered republicans see the value of this research would be if THEY could directly benefit from it.

I signed up for alternet and spent a lot of time reading and using articles here as sources for my blog. However, whenever I have arrived here of late to read I see at least one article that has no sense of balance whatsoever.

While I do not like Rush Limbaugh and think that he is very full of it and himself, I do not think that it make your point effectively to spend so much time concocting statements of abuse. Report the facts and leave the opinions for your dinner table discussions.

I'm sorry Alternet, but I'm beginning to think that some of your authors are no better than the people they bash.

Fox reports "Today President Bush SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDED his position against allegations...."

CNN reports "Today President Bush STUMBLED through questions about his position..."

When will people realize that it is not media's job to color the facts with personal opinions. This article stinks of it, as do many of the others I have read here of late. These articles do not contribute in any way to the spread of truth, justice and democracy. Instead they cater to the hatred and anger that festers within the existing system of government.

What should be reported? "Today President Bush ANSWERED questions about his policies on..."

Rush Limburger, Michael 'the' Savage (aptly named ironically), Ann (please feed me) Coulter, Sean Ham-Hannity and Bill O'Really - these are the mavens of meanness. No one and nothing is safe from their vitriolic spew, even someone like Michael J. Fox, who so obviously suffers from Parkinsons.

Let's be honest, these people are attention whores. The worse they behave and the more reaction they receive - either positive or negative - the better they feel about themselves. In fact, they thrive off the negative because they've given themselves martyr complexes. They're the victims, not the 9/11 widows, or Michael J. Fox or anyone else whom they've dragged through the mud with their hate-filled rhetoric.

Somewhere, their parents or partners didn't show them much in the way of love, so this is how they go about getting it.

Feel sorry for them, them kick them off their airwaves and restore sane political discourse.

Do you think the Republicans are this stupid? It's no coincidence that EVERYTHING is simultaneously going wrong for them. Not to mention that they are making no new promises on anything or making the appearance of changing their Iraq strategy.

They are throwing the election.

When they hoisted the "Mission Accomplished" banner soon after the invasion, it wasn't a mistake. Their mission really had been accomplished. They forwarded nearly $0.4 trillion to their friends in industry and many billions to a few good friends in Iraq who have now vanished.

Now the game is up. No WMDs, no Osama, no cheering crowds to greet the American "liberators". Time to escape. They'll be back after the war has grown even worse with the Democrats in power. There is no way to "win" a war that was a disaster to begin with. The Republicans know this and they are not going to ride it to the bottom - let the Democrats do it.

Michael J. Fox interview from 2003

I saw Michael Fox on the Leno show back in 2003. At that time, he displayed the same awkward, uncontrollable movements as were on the election video for Missouri. It was very uncomfortable to watch especially since we were used to seeing this man as a dynamic actor. His performances on "Boston Legal" have shown that he is still an excellent actor, but the video was no act. I don't find it difficult to understand why this drug addict, Limbaugh, would think Fox was acting. After all, think of all the performances Rush has put on for doctors and other medical personnel to get his drugs.

My husband, who died of Cancer in 2003 and I spoke about the good effects stem cell research might have on Cancer patients and also on children like our grandson who has Cystic Fibrosis. Also, we had fifty Oxycontent tablets in our house for a year. They were given to my husband for pain after major Cancer surgery. He never took them, and the Hospice nurse flushed them down the drain the day he died. All in all, Rush Limbaugh is the Court Jester or maybe just some other kind of clown.

Allow me to share my vast knowledge of radio operations with you.

There exists on nearly every consumer radio today and "off" button, and "on" button, and a dial with which one may select his or her choice program or format.

Limbaugh's parody of Michael J. Fox's appearance was despicable, and it was dirty. If I find the commentary disgusting (and I do), then my solution is to not listen, and not support the advertisers that make his commentary show possible.

Next week: how to get rid of garbage in your home (such as FoxNews) with the simple click of a button!

Empty barrels

One of my grade-school teachers used to say:"Empty barrels make the most noise". When I asked her what she meant by that, she said that if you roll an empty barrel down a hill, it makes more noise than a full one does. When the light of realization comes on in a student's eyes, that's the principal reward a teacher gets- a validation of her efforts. My teacher saw that in me and smiled. I was filled with admiration for her perspicacity and wisdom. That one teacher is worth a hundred Rush Limbaughs, who is an empty barrel, and a nasty one at that.

Identification with the Aggressor

Rush is pretty slick. His appeal is to the right wing, the Evangelicals, those worried about abortion and gays. But here is why Ruch works. Too many Americans believe the lies of Rush. It is basically the lie that American success is predicated on hard work, discipline and intelligence. Race, your status by birth in life, etc., all mean nothing. Rush is also for a complete repeal of the New Deal. Well, after all, the poor don't deserve health care, housing, social security. Public education should be abolished for church schools and those who can pay. Labor laws and the minimum wage should be eliminated and child labor allowed. This is then where Rush is and what he is all about. The reality, what you are born into is what you get, as we all know. The conning, the theiving and the lying, are the successful ones in much of corporate America. None of this however is in Rushes equation. The poor and middle class taken in by Rush, psychologists call that "Identification with the Aggressor"

Rush's Reign is OVER!

Has anyone seen or heard of what Rush's audience ratings are lately? My hunch is they are tumbling.

For, in my own (very unscientific!) polling, I've found many people like me (folks who used to listen to Rush almost daily) have now had their fill of this blowhard. Once it became crystal clear to me that Rush had become little more than a mouthpiece for George W. Bush's lies and propaganda, I traded in my "ears" for a monitor and a keyboard.

The Michael J. Fox thing is simply one more indicator that Rush is losing audience share. Attacking Fox gives Rush the attention and coverage in the "mainstream press" he so desperately craves, hoping it will also boost his ratings. To a talk radio host, even bad press is better than no press at all.

And, just like the Republicans and their nearly complete control of our government, Rush Limbaugh is becoming ever more desperate to hang onto that clearly commanding radio empire he once had. Fortunately, it would now appear that BOTH salvage efforts are failing miserably.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall!

Rx Abuser.......HYPOCRITE RUSH

How many prescription pills did Rush have in his possession when he was arrested??? Life in prison for anyone else.
Yet he will make fun of the poor and suffering, like Cancer or Aids patients who may get some relief from Cannabis. On his 4/21/06 radio show I read that he said...."The FDA says there's no...zilch, zero, nada..shred of medical value to the evil weed marijuana. This is going to be a setback to the long-haired maggot-infected, dope smoking crowd."

Excuse me....the Cancer patients that have no appetite, and starving to death are NOT maggot -infected but could benefit from a little spliff to compliment the Oxycontin. This government instead feels no remorse for caging their old and ill.....God Bless America !!!!

I should feel ashamed...

I should feel ashamed of my feelings toward Rush Limbaugh; but I'm only a flawed human being, so I'm giving myself permission to wish him all the disease and illness that this world has to offer. After spending the bulk of my life as a licensed therapist helping addicts recover from drug and alcohol addiction, I find that I'm not able to be the forgiving person that I used to believe myself to be when it comes to Limbaugh. I have watched helplessly as far too many really good people died trying to beat their addictions, while scumbags like Limbaugh wrote their high dollar checks to skate out of paying the price for their crimes.

All to well, I know the rhetoric that addicts use to make themselves feel better in the public eye, but this case has an evil twist to it. Limbaugh genuinely seeks to hurt everyone who could benifit from a science that helps people with dire medical needs. His motives are for the lowest reasons; so that he can align himself with those putrid slugs that occupy the top slots of the Christian Coalition in order to keep his immoral peep show wasting space on the information highways.

Rot in hell Rush Limbaugh... and the sooner the better for the sake of mankind!

I am waiting for some brave soul to offer up the video that was most likely taken, and now being enjoyed over and over again, by Limbaugh and his pals on their recent trip to the Dominican Republic. I think we all know why they went there, the bottle of Viagra without a perscription being somewhat a giveaway. From the US Dept of Labor, Bureau of International Labor Affairs:

INCIDENCE AND NATURE OF CHILD LABOR - The commercial sexual exploitation of children is reported to be a problem in urban areas, as well as in tourist locations throughout the country including Boca Chica, Puerto Plata and Sosua. According to a study published by UNICEF and the National Planning Office in 1999, 75 percent of minors involved in prostitution were working in brothels, discos, restaurants, and hotels. There are reports that women and children are trafficked to, from, and within the Dominican Republic, particularly for the purpose of commercial sexual exploitation. There are also reports that poor children are trafficked internally to work as domestics. Haitian children are reportedly trafficked to the Dominican Republic[1329] to work as prostitutes, shoe shiners, street vendors, in agriculture, and to beg in the streets. There are also reports that young Dominican girls are trafficked to Haiti to work as prostitutes.

Call the radio station(s) in your areas that air his show, and tell them you are fed up with his attacking sick people, and you are changing channels. That is whether you listen in or not.

Enough of a public outrage got him fired from that sports show a while back... Why not hit him where it hurts the most?

I'm doing it.

It seems to me that nobody disparaging Rush actually listens to him

If you did, you would know that he said repeatedly that he knows Michael J. Fox has Parkinson's, that he did not joke about his illness, but that anyone -- including someone with an illness -- who interjects himself or herself in the public political arena has to be prepared for his or her ideas to be challenged. In this case, Rush was saying that MJF was being exploited by those on the Left and that the commercials were purposely misleading about what the bill actually involved. He was saying further that it is a common ploy of the Left to select as a spokesperson someone who is a victim or circumstances, disease, or past injury, because the average person is cowed into believing that a debate about what the victim is saying is an attack on the person themselves (examples include the Jersey Girls, John Murtha, and Max Cleland, just to name a few). Just because a person is a victim doesn't make him or her an expert on a particular topic, nor does it mean that everything he or she says is true.

Leftists do and say some of the cruelist things ever. George Clooney a few years back said some wicked things about Charleton Heston regarding his suffering from Alzheimer's and, when challenged, didn't apologize but in fact said Heston deserved the comments. Saturday Night Live used to regularly mock people with all kinds of afflictions, including James Fox ("Eating Well to Get Cancer" or something like that). Even now, the response of people on the Left to Rush's comments are to mock his addiction to prescription drugs, sneer at his having a bottle of Viagra in his personal luggage, or comment on how fat he is (shows again how ill-informed you are since he lost a ton a weight over a decade ago).

Why don't you read the transcripts from his shows from the past week to find out what he really said, instead of reacting to a few out-of-context excerpts publicized by people or news organizations who hate him? You can still hate him, but you won't sound so ill-informed.

When did our countrymen lose the ability to discern true character? Help I'm confounded.

I watched him once. Unfortunately it was the illfated There's a dog in the white house show. It was on tv. There he was in his suit, and all his audience in suits and ties, including the women , all spiffed up to reflect the conserative moral establishemnt. And up comes a picture of a new dog in the whitehouse. I thought who has a new dog, and then he puts up a picture of 12 year old Chelsea Clinton all braces and hair and self conciousness like any normal sweet 12 year old girl. I had to close my mouth with a machine. It was stuck open, just like in the movie the Producers while the audience listened to the Springtime for Hitler routine. I never listened to him again. I Knew at that moment he wasn't a man, certainly not a person with a heart or soul, he was a big fat nasty 12 year old bully and his playground was his audience. Iv'e never understood his popularity, and frankly it frightened me that any American would take him seriously as a source of opinion or news. He's a sad, pathetic, little man, masquerading as a wise grown up adult. Why is it that people can't discriminate? Why is it that Americans look at a man with no light in his eyes, no wisdom in his message, no intelligenceor depth in his comments, no fairness or sense of fair play, no kindness or heart or soul and give him respect and attention. When did our country lose it's ability to discern true
