The AP is reporting that yet another TVA coal plant, in northeastern Alabama this time, has had a spill. This comes in the wake of the massive disaster at the Kingston plant just weeks ago in Harriman, TN where over 1 billion gallons of toxic material flowed in the watershed and destroyed a neighborhood.

Here's what AP is saying about the latest spill:

The leak was discovered at about 6 a.m. Friday at the plant near Stevenson, said TVA spokesman John Moulton. Most of the material from the leak flowed into a settling pond at the plant site, but some spilled into nearby Widows Creek, he said.
The leak has stopped and the TVA is conducting temporary repairs on the pond, Moulton said.

While this one was a lot more minor, it raises some very important issues about safety around coal and how many other areas are at risk. It's time to seriously begin the national conversation about getting away from our use of coal -- it is endangering air, watersheds, and communities all across the country -- from where it is extracted to where it is burned. We're in the 21st century, not the 19th, it's time for clean energy.
