Remember how life for Christians used to be in Iraq, before Bush decided to impose a military occupation on a country that never invaded us?

Life was "better" for Christians in Iraq under the regime of Saddam Hussein than it is today, according to the only Anglican vicar working in Baghdad.
Recalling yesteryear makes a person ::sniffle:: get a little misty-eyed.
Canon Andrew White, vicar of St George's Church in the capital of Iraq told Times Online that day-to-day life was 'a lot easier' for Christians when the vicious dictator Saddam Hussein was President of the country. [...] "It is still very difficult," he said . "Not like it was under Saddam, it was a lot easier just day-to-day living. There are threats to these our people all the time. They know who the Christians are."
Some do feel that removing Saddam Hussein was the right thing to do. However, there are these tiny little inconveniences...like trying to stay alive:
Canon White, who leads a church of more than 1000 people in the war-torn city and travels to work in an armoured vehicle accompanied by 30 armed guards, had to leave Iraq in July because of death threats against him. He returned in October but says police in Britain warned his family they should move out of their home in Hampshire for fear of attacks. Their family home is now equipped with panic alarms with direct links to the local police.
Those lazy, crazy pre-invasion days...good times, good times.
The vicar says the British Embassy in Iraq often forbids him from leaving the International Zone in Baghdad because of the number of threats against his life. Canon White has lost eleven staff because of sectarian violence since the start of the conflict.

There are moments, you know the ones, when it's under 125 degrees outside, and the family can stretch out on a rooftop, soak in those balmy Iraq evenings that are punctuated by the familiar jarring boom of IEDs and suicide bombers exploding, and dream of the days when water and electricity weren't so scarce, and when wading through sewage after being terrorized by Blackwater joy riders was only a twinkle in Bush's eye. Mmmmm.

"It was better for Christians under Saddam. Now life is bad for everybody but it will change. Our hope has to be in God more than politics. I believe that's the answer."
Dream on.

the point of this observation is that basic human freedom in Iraq was greater under Saddam Hussein than the US Marines. The fundamentalist Christians, Christian Zionists and Bush regime have railed against and murdered a man who accomodated religious freedom to a greater degree than US troops.

Don't we remember CNN videos on the eve of Dick Cheney's bombing attack on Baghdad that featured interviews with young Iraqi unveiled coeds. We should celebrate the news that has been forgotten and buried by the corporatist media as an embarrassment to the fascists; not use a cheap opportunity to diss religion a basic human right.

Life has become hell for Iraq's Christians, and those in Gaza are under threat, too. Ironically it is the hardcore Christian right in the US whose militaristic policies have created this backlash. But what are they doing for their suffering brethren? Not much. Don't they have a moral duty to help them emigrate to the US and provide them with subventions and jobs? Or is morality only about what other people do in the bedroom?

What has happened to us (the people of the usa)? What have we become to let Mr. Bush & Co. use God to kill thousands of good people who loved God? Mr. Bush & Co. have done such a good job on us here in this little town-all we do is (support the troops) we do not ever say a word about the killing of good people we just talk about support the troops. as it stands today Mr. Bush & Co. could H-Bomb France and us people here in this little town would say support the troops not one word about the killing. Do you people out their understand what Mr. Bush & Co. & his use of God have done to us here in the rest of the world? Do you people out their understand what has happened to us? If the rest of the good old USA is like my little town (MAY GOD HELP YOU.) cANT SAY WHAT i WANT SO SEE YOU ALL LATER. bILL dAVIDSON
