Naba is a six-year-old girl who once lived with her family in the Al- Mansour-neighborhood of Baghdad. On March 20, 2006, while the family was traveling to the Iraqi city of Ramadi, U.S. forces fired on the family’s car. Naba's father, Ali Mohammad, and her brother Hussein were shot dead in the incident. Naba was hit in the arm and chest.
Naba’s mother, now a widow, had to sell her possessions to fund travel to Syria for Naba’s treatment. No medical care was available for her daughter in occupied Iraq. Surgery was performed, but Naba needs more surgery and rehabilitative treatment to recover from her injuries. The family, now living as impoverished refugees in Syria, cannot afford this treatment.

A community group in Mariposa, California, Neighbors Without Borders, learned about Naba and decided to help her. Students from Portland Community College in Oregon and Alameda High School in Northern California are also pitching in to help. These people of conscience are raising funds to pay for Naba's treatment and help meet some of Naba and her family's daily needs as refugees displaced by the occupation.

In this searing video, Naba describes witnessing her father and brother be killed by the U.S. military.

"The Americans came to apologize," she says. "I said, what do you mean you're sorry? After killing my father and brother? You're sorry? After all you've taken from me? Now you're sorry?"

She was four years old at the time.
