Woodward: Bush Doesn't Get Why Iraqis Aren't Appreciative of Liberation

Sunday night on 60 Minutes, host Scott Pelley interviewed Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward to discuss his new book “The War Within: A Secret White House History, 2006-2008.” Pelley noted that one part of the story Woodward tells is President Bush’s “frustration with the attitude of the Iraqi people”:

WOODWARD: He has a meeting at the Pentagon with a bunch of experts and he just said, ‘I don’t understand that the Iraqis are not appreciative of what we’ve done for them,’ namely liberated them.

PELLEY: But tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis have been killed in the invasion and through the occupation. He didn’t understand why they might be a little ungrateful about what had occurred to them?

WOODWARD: His beacon is liberation. He thinks we’ve done this magnificent thing for them. I think he still holds to that position.

Nearly 100,000 Iraqi civilians have lost their lives since 2003 (maybe more) and around 2 million have either fled the country or are internally displaced. For many years, ordinary Iraqis have had to deal with car bombs, suicide bombs, and other routine violence that ultimately resulted in civil war and the sectarian cleansing of Baghdad. Why wouldn’t Iraqis be grateful for all that?

Woodward also revealed during the interview that the “secret behind the success of the surge” was not the U.S. troop build-up but a “breakthrough” in “secret operational capabilities that have been developed by the military to locate, target and kill leaders of al-Qaeda in Iraq, insurgent leaders, renegade militia leaders.” Woodward would not provide any further details of the secret plan.

Digg!

this is a joke. "i think he still holds to that position"...
the whole war is a fabrication and so is this bs interview to put forward a bs position that george thinks it was about liberation. he's an oilman who got rich off a false war. it's the only business move he's got right (way more profitable than a crappy ball team or actually looking for oil, much easier to steal it)...
woodward is either a shill or a moron. not much of a pick, but hey, he gets on TV alot. I wonder how much he charges for this increadible insight?

Is this the mindset of the monster in the white house??? "Why don't they appreciate me???" What does that say about this lunatic? Did Hitler think all those people slaughtered by he and his stormtroopers would appreciate him?

I just don't understand that kind of thinking, so if someone could clear this up for me I would appreciate it.

Sponsor and support a murderous dictator for decades then invade and pillage in the name of “liberation”. Americans have a habit of seeing their barbaric savagery as righteous. Go to hell America! May you people be liberated as you have liberated others.

If this is really true and really Bob Woodward's honest ta Gods perception. Then I would say George W.Bush is patently insane. He belongs inside a lunatic asylum.

When most americans were screaming for blood and revenge over 9/11 now you people who were duped(poor excuse)voted for him and the others who just stood by while the election was stolen still trying to beliieve that america and the other fools of the willing are wanted or needed in that part of the world. NO ONE WANTS YOUR SELF SERVING PRETEND HELP . NO ONE WANTS YOUR GODS OR DEMONCRAZY .
As a native person I know how the west steal resources and lets not forget that gas line deal that tends to be forgotten accept the warmongers and war profiteers who keep warm by rubbing their bloody hands together and the spinning propaganda keeps the dumb downed full of the nightly news.
Vietnam again and again and again hoooo hum!

Why don't they appreciate what we've done, is all the proof you need to show how big a narrow minded ignoramus we have occupying the White House. It appears that Dick Cheney didn't tell him the real reason we are in Iraq.

i have a problem with ro-aches; if every man, woman, and child wuld dedicate themselves to their extermination, then we could be free of this problem once and for all.

Just watch the other U-Tube interview, Larry King's. It's about Kissinger's 'special relations with Dubya. Just as every President before him since the end of WWII, Boy George is also surrounded by Jewish experts, advisors, media moguls, Wall Streeters and owners of Federal Reserve. Other before him used these Jewish groups and they used them. Fair! The problem with Dubya is he does not know how to use them to his advantage. Hence, he just gives in; lock stock and barrel just like Nixon did to Kissinger. That is why the Powers-That-Be in America select candidates to the White House on the basis of IQ and Brain Size, the lesser the better. The ideal candidate brow should show : EMPTY/ NEVER USED/FOR RENT

Of course he'll be 'blown to bits' and the Pentagon will have to run 'Testing' to 'identify him'.
If they wanted to find Binny, all they had to do was turn around while visiting his Dubia Island/country.
They may even come up with a Stand in (Poor sucker) Just like Kimmy Boy, to show the media. But I can guarantee a good portion of Americans Won't buy it- their lies have barred them from even benefitting from 'a shadow of a doubt'

Reason why a vote for McCain/Palin is another imbecile ticket being foisted upon the American public. If they get elected it will be proof positive that the majority of American voters are imbeciles as well, and we will have the leadership we deserve.

Read "Silent Coup" (paperback) for a better insight into Woodward (Dean too). Remember Felt ("Deepthroat" as named by Redford) was a Hoover protege.

The idea that the Bushter is not able to understand how the Iraqis aren't overjoyed about their America engineered life is ------ he is a sociopath. Harsh? Yep. But the ability to go outside yourself, to realize other folks are just as important as you, is that which makes a human being. If this is missing, you can be willing to be the genesis of much misery, and by gosh you're OK with that, NO SECOND THOUGHTS. Individual people become an abstraction, THE IRAQI PEOPLE SHOULD BE GRATEFUL. In general the rule -- don't kill the parents, brothers, friends of folks ECT. of people you are hoping to show gratitude for what you've done. If we had just given every person in Iraq $50,000 --( $1,500,000,000,000 TOTAL) America would be very popular, and money ahead.
