OurFuture.org asked the Sierra Club's executive director, Carl Pope, about how progressives should respond to Texas oilman T. Boone Pickens' plan for energy independence and political obstruction on energy issues in Washington. Pope also explains harmful natural gas policies that need to be corrected by the next administration. Pope was interviewed after a forum at The Big Tent in Denver during the Democratic National Convention Agust 27, 2008.

Was the Churchill reference supposed to make it clear that the West gave up it's 'energy Independence' when they sold the Rights to Our natural resources to Private Industry?
That Reference was 'clear as mud'
Appears he got caught in that 'round up'.
Much clearer messege....End Corp Ownership & control of Natural Resources
Granted We must get off oil entirely, but what we need far more immediately is Independence for the Energy Monarchies and Gambling casinos.
So not only is the Oil Incs claims BS, but so is Nat Gas, Nuclear, Thermo, solar. Until WE take back ownership of Our energy, We will NEVER be Independent or Free from their influence In DC and around the World.

Think about congress NOW. Here is the list of who is running this time around by state.

It is time to get to know, and maybe replace, your congressperson. We have chosen a new president, let's really help him out. Let's choose a new congress too. It is the least we can do.

T BOONE PICKENS ISN'T WRONG, BUT HIS SUGGESTIONS ARE AT BEST ONLY

a starter. He wants us to use compressed natural gas. Interestingly, the City of Long Beach California has been running its City vehicles on CNG since 1968. This is doable.

Shell oil Europe makes 1 gallon of every twenty gallons of diesel out of natural gas. This requires no change of infrastructure. T. Boone Pickens wants to be a retailer. He is now a natural gas wholsaler. He is looking after T. Boone Pickens.

At one time the "experts" opined that the United States had enough natural gas to do for 10,000 years. Global warming is going to require that a lot of this be kept in the ground. But we can use natural gas to solve a political problem. The right wing republicans have made us dependent on foreign oil. Pickens is right about politics. Natural gas can make us energy independent.

Carbon sequestration can move us in the right direction on our CO2 emissions. In due time carbon must be moved out of the picture. Sequestration is every bit as finite as oil or any other carbon. It will have to stop also.

Our energy future actually requires that we proceed on all fronts. I suspect that even Pickens will agree with that. Remember, that even Richard Nixon said that we must have an energy policy. Jimmy Carter presented a comphrehensive energy policy to congress. It was trashed. We thought Ronald Reagan had no energy policy. He hadn't mentioned it. Then we found out what it was, "We shoot Arabs". We are still using the same policy as these words are written. Some of us think that it might be wrong. It appears to have really annoyed the Arabs.

It is the same policy we had when we stole the American Indian's lands. The oil companies just want the 11,000 shallow wells that they can drill in Iraq. Just like the indian the Iraqi are resisting. If we were on the side of the good guys we would help them resist.

Put a wind turbine in my sight lines ANY DAY

Living with a view of Lake Michigan (and LSD), all I can say is put up a wind turbine ANY DAY where I can see it and see the future--my deck is small, but if you can get one on it--BRING it on.
