Anti-War Protesters Have Every Right to Yell "F**k FOX News!"

The DNC is barely under way in Denver, but protesters are already making themselves heard.  Their message: "Fuck corporate media!" and "Fuck FOX News!"

That's the response FOX's Griff Jenkins receives when he throws himself into a swarm of marching anti-war protesters.  Jenkins plays incredulous well in this clip, asking over and over again why the protesters don't believe in freedom of speech—the irony of ironies, considering these protesters are exercising their first amendment rights with every step they take.

As Jenkins is drowned out by a "Fuck FOX News!" chorus and disappears among a sea of middle fingers flipped at the camera, he cries out, "That's just not necessary."  Au contraire, Mr. Jenkins.  These calls are entirely necessary, considering FOX has served as the propaganda arm of the Bush administration for the last eight years.

FOX has been Bush's biggest cheerleader in his war with Iraq.  FOX joined the corporate media in drumming up support for the war, preying on a vulnerable nation by drawing the false connection between Iraq and 9/11 and touting the administration's so-called "evidence" of WMDs.  Even as other corporate outlets realized their awful mistake when evidence proved the administration had no justification to go into Iraq, FOX offered no mea culpa.  Instead, the network continued to pretend the war was succeeding, when the reality was it had become a brutal quagmire that continues to this day.  But FOX didn't stop with Iraq.  Oh, no.  For more than a year now, the network has been war-whooping over Iran as well.

FOX is guilty of war- and fearmongering, spreading the administration's lies at every turn, and smearing those who try to set the record straight.  So "Fuck FOX News?"  I'd say these anti-war protesters get the message just right.

Digg!

So instead of using an opportunity to address the viewers of Fox News, the protestors just acted out in such a way as to confirm what the viewers of Fox News think they behave like.

The progressive movement is dead in the water. Its children acting out to be heard.

Actually the newscaster did give them the opp. and one guy did take it and said "Stop the violence, Stop the War!" Also, they were not just "attacking him" they where saying "to hell with corporate media, this includes FOX News!"

However, they could have said something like Corporate Media lies, instead of saying "Fuck You" which is a bit childish. They could have said their mission more clearly. Like:

"Freedom is not about being 'safe' its about living responsibly and with vigilance. Something that the majority of America no longer is, instead they believe that one of the two sides of the same coin will save them on Selection Day - November 2008."

ZP Heller writes, "Jenkins plays incredulous well in this clip, asking over and over again why the protesters don't believe in freedom of speech—the irony of ironies, considering these protesters are exercising their first amendment rights with every step they take."

While I agree with everything you say, I'd like to point out that the FOX News reporter is not asking whether the protesters believe in their own freedom of speech. On the contrary, he's asking if the protesters believe in FOX News' right to "Freedom of Speech".

In Fox News' typically Orwellian fashion, the question is not the protesters Freedom of Speech, which I think we all can agree Fox News does not support. The real question for Fox News is Rupert Murdoch's "Freedom of Speech", which is codified by the fraudulent 14th Amendment to the Constitution. Recall that the 14th Amendment grants corporations "personhood" and, subsequently, "freedom of speech".

Make no mistake, Fox News is only concerned with its "right" to slander, lie and distort the news to fit the Republican Party's political agenda, the protesters be damned.

People The People are allowed to express their opinion and disdain for those who they feel are adverse to the best interests of our nation and this demographic group these protesters represent..!

Are the lies and distortions and blatant propaganda of Fox News really any worse than this expression against all that Fox and Murdoch and Ailes stands for..?

How many have died due to some young angry kids saying F#ck Fox News..!

How many deaths and how much waste and destruction and displacement can be traced to the terrible influence Fox exerts on the weaker minds that are a part of our make up as a people..?

So they put hysterical blond on the news to make this appear much worse than it is. No to mention the jerk in the street just begging to get punched. Someone has to explain to FOX that we are allowed to object, the right ("Peaceably to assemble"). That's all it is. I'm personally very encouraged to see that we do care. This is nothing more than Americans who give a damn. Nothing wrong with that. Thanks, ANNA

Freedom of Speech is for all, not just the press. So just as Fox News has the freedom to spread it's lies, the protestors have the freedom to reject those lies by chanting against Fox News.

ANy news service Fox or otherwise is in the hip pocket of the DNC and the RNC. Stories are told with a 'slant' to help you form the opinion they want you to have. AMerica supports the war, believes in the government,supports the candidates,the environment is healing,any one of these has at one time been a lead story and they are all bullshit.
When was the last time you really felt like your voice was truly heard? As a toddler,teenager, a voter? Our voices are unheard unless you have a $10,000 donation to give.
We have the right to abolish this government.
Let's use it!! They have been criminal,liars that have proven themselves unfit to rule. Not just unfit but incapable of working for anyone's best intrest except those whom intrests lie in making great wealth off the hardships of others.
I wonder if the DNC knows their Party anacronym is the medical name for an abortion?
Now we know why they can't do anything right.

And fuck you if you don't like it! I mean seriously WTF? Faux News needs this to happen to them EVERY TIME THEY USE A CAMARA! This is not about trying to get any message across to viewers of faux news. First of all anyone who still relies on faux for their news is unreachable and should be written off entirely. Second faux is not a news organization by any means and so any 'message' would be distorted before broadcast garaunteed. I think this is the perfect way to deal with faux - causticaly dismiss. If they met with this exact phrase every time they tried to get a democratic viewpoint on camara pretty soon they would have less than zero relavance. In fact I would personaly contribute 50% of my next paycheck to the first member of congress to adopt this phrase for all faux interviews. Fuck'em.

But since he chose a 36 year Washington Establishmentarian as his running mate who is pro-war from day and is pro-funding-the-war even up to this day, Obama has SHREDDED what little credibility he had of claiming to be anti-war. As another poster pointed out, it's not just Faux Noise but the system that is entirely corrupt and must be DEMOLISHED. And by the way, Kucinich would have made it easier to win MI, OH, and PA and maybe even WV, IA, and MO. Now, however, Obama can FORGET about trying to reach out to blue-collared voters as he will easily be framed and painted by the GOP as elitist.

...but I don't watch Fox. The best political coverage is on C-Span. They are truly right, left and center.

A couple of comments on the video. EncinoM is right. I'd like to hear what protesters have to say.....but screaming obscenities only hurts their cause.

The reporter from Fox, though, purposely ran in front of the protesters.....he wasn't looking or trying to cover a story, he was looking for a confrontation. It was obvious.

C-Span folks.....C-Span......particularly Washington Review.

Good logical debate from both sides without screaming.

If you listened to the commentary from the blonde dead head in the studio:

"Far leftist groups"
"recreating 68"
"extremists"

They got the feed they were looking for. The only thing that was disappointing was the protesters didn't physically lift the reporter and the cameraman and throw them into the nearest dumpster. I would have cheered!!

It gave a very clear message that Faux News is not publicly accepted as a credible news source.
Besides, Griff and his bosses got what they wanted, too, to have something to pretend to be outraged about.

Faux News will spin anything into right-wing propaganda and they've been doing it for the past eight years. It's way past time that we liberals really stood up for free speech instead of allowing ourselves to be hemmed in by it.

One of the reasons this country is worse off now is because we didn't stand up to the fear and hate-mongers when they were still an unorganized bunch of wackos. Now, they're an organized and powerful bunch of wackos who've destroyed this country while we liberals for the most part have been afraid of "offending" the public.

Well, it's time to get offensive again and make sure that the world knows that Faux News is worse than the Joseph Goebbel's propaganda machine. The future of the world is at stake and this is NOT the time to be nice!

while you say words that to a lot of ears are offensive, inappropriate, and unnecessary, words becomes the issue, not unfortunately what you in this case, are protesting about. We're all doing it here on this thread. That crowd had every right under what's left of our Constitution to protest this misbegotten, illegal war, and the even more misbegotten quasi news organization, however what are we talking about? The lame language used.

That's unfortunate because both the occupation and Fox deserve every bit of contempt that can be heaped on them. I know for some people that's just the way they vent, but if it clouds an otherwise really good point, then I ask "what is the point?"

all y'all whining about the protesters treatment of the Right Wing Propaganda tools known as Fox News need to shut up. Or go to Denver and organize your own protest. That protest was organized by far left radicals. They have every right to dismiss the corporate media as the far left has NEVER, ever gotten a fair shake from any mainstream media outlet in this country ever, from the 1800's up through today.

don't like what the protesters do or say?

then organize something better. spend your money on travel to Denver. paint your own signs, put out your own press releases.

don't criticize others for their strength of will to act and be heard while you rant from behind the computer screen.

stop whining from the Couch/sidelines.

btw, the far left owes the center left nothing so you can stop whining about our lack of support for your little golden boy and his quest for power.

center left folks (i.e. liberals or progressives) always whine about the far lefts' lack of support during presidential campaigns but where are the libs in between elections while the far left is trying to reform prisons, stop wars, stop environmental damage, etc...?

have a nice day.

Gee! I always wanted to write that in a headline on AlterNet. What better time, huh?

Maybe the people are starting to wise up and are turning against the Republican Broadcasting Company. I've been telling everyone I know who watches FOX for ten years, "Turn it off. Turn it off and never turn it on again. They're lying to you."

Did you ever watch FOA and Friends? News for idiots. Every once in a blue moon, I'll tape an entire episode of it. It is the modern-day equivalent of watching the old, 1965 movie, ,i>Hold On! starring the deservedly forgotten, British pop group, Herman's Hermits: so mind-numbingly awful taht it's actually fun to watch. The very fact that this lame assemblage of infotaining, trivial nonsense is the highest rated morning cable news program is instructive when one is trying to figure out why Americans are the least informed, unenlightened people in the western world.

If that very fact does not engage you, you must be watching a lit of FOX Noise. C'mon! Be honnest!

your understanding of the far left in this country comes from Fox news and other ahistorical cretins obviously.

don't like radicals? then give up your civil rights, your 8 hour work day, and any other precious liberal icons, cause it was the far fucking left that pushed and shoved and yelled and raised hell and got beaten, arrested and killed till the system had to give an inch here and there just to get people to shut up.

maybe your a liberal and you don't like it when you get painted by the right as a far left loony?

what the fuck have you people done to counter those smears? Nothing. you have not staked out your own positions in a clear and palatable way. All you do is continue the smearing of the far left in order to distance yourself from them.

it is y'all who are embarassing and spineless.

aging hippies and punks eh? you have no true conception of the far left.

and, asshole, there are a lot of aging hippies and college punks who are just as american and human as you and they have legitimate political view points. Who do you think you are to try an deligitimize someone's politics because of their subculture?

your intolerence suggests to me that you would be happier in China or Russia. please go there now, as your intolerance is just as bad as the right and you people are wrecking this country and the planet.

However, for those in here who thought that the protesters passed up an opportunity to point out Fox's foibles and another opportunity to present a treatise on why the right is WRONG WRONG WRONG. 1.)by assisting in the subversion of truth, in order to lead us into war.
2.)support in diverting TRILLIONS of taxpayers dollars and by profiting in this action.
3.)by supporting GRAFT, GREED & CORRUPTION
3.)material and emotional support of illegal detention and torture, plus condoning these activities including against their own [eg. competitors reporters photographers etc.]
4.)and by providing material and logistical Intelligence and Support contrary to existing conventions knowing that this will effect future war correspondents ability to perform their duties.

and all this was done for one reason... for the bottom line! ...PROFIT!...

But what really pisses me off is,
how the corporate executives running this dog and pony show made it look so ...[sl]easy...
SOMETHING/ANYTHING... MUST BE DONE!

'Joseph Goebbels' Quotes;

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The
lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State."

"It is the absolute right of the State to supervise the formation of public opinion."

"During a war, news should be given out for instruction rather than information."

"The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly - it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We must ensure a quality control mechanism to
eliminate Propaganda emanating from government agencies.
This can easily be done by revoking broadcasting rights to broadcast News information. News should never be infotainment trivalised for the bottom line, news reporting is a serious business and should be classified as such by being a privilege to broadcast... that being by issuing licenses that is separate from their regular broadcast licenses!
Simply put... a broadcast license fee structure should be reviewed yearly and with bottom line penalties for corporate structures that do not have regulated news coverage, rewarding those that do have licensed news reporting by being exempt from the yearly somberquete.
News licensing guidelines must be enforced to ensure non-governmental interference in the future, their-fore the licensing body MUST BE non-political.
[Don't need a repeat of Colin Powell's son issuing broadcast licenses now do we, never forget that]
To much damage has been brought through the corporate streamlining of news and information sources to our societies detriment, action is needed now.
Crimes have been perpetrated by and through this medium, and the sheeple "DO" care!
to all the Patrick Fitzgerald's out there... where are you?
now... right NOW... is your time!
