A new national study by the Pew Research Center shows that 12 percent of the country still believes Sen. Barack Obama is a Muslim. ANP looks into how this myth has been perpetuated in the media.

No one has ever gone bankrupt underestimating the intelligence of the American public.
Suppose a radical Muslim extremist group wanted to place a "mole" into the highest levels of American government. Do you think they would go with a black guy named Barack Hussein Obama?
Just how dumb do they think the electorate is.... wait, don't answer that.

Magic snake people will believe anything?

Given Obama is a roaring, avowed Christian--all I can imagine is that people who believe that magic snakes talk, the Easter bunny and that bridge in Brooklyn is on Ebay--will believe just about anything.

These are the Americans who don't understand anything going on around them. They watch the news only once in a while, and when they do it's Fox, so obviously they are clueless. We have to get out there and inform as many people as possible of the truth so that Americans do not vote for someone who will flush this country even further down the toilet than it already is. Talk to everyone you know (relatives included) and enlighten them before the election. We can't have 4 more years of violent, destructive idiocy!

1 in 10 Americans? I can handle those odds.

Considering that the very bottom of the barrel for Bush's approval numbers have been in the mid 20's, a number indicating 1 in 4 Americans think Bush is anything other than an absolute unmitigated disaster, I think I can handle a 1 in 10.

1 in 4 Americans are truly frightening and horrible people.

3 in 4 Americans are not.

America never became the home of the free it attempted to be and that our Founding Fathers envisioned. If it had it wouldn't matter if Obama was a Muslem or not. It wouldn't be an issue as to what any canidate's religion was if America wasn't a Xian fraud pretending to have Freedom of Religion when none exists except for Xians.

Exposing the 'Chrisitian' Extremeists

I have a greater fear, and with reason, of the so called 'Christian ' extremeist in this country, more than any other fanatics.
When we face our personal freedoms and rights being taken away to satisfy some religious sects doctrines- we have lost America.
"If you don't believe in Abortion,Don't have One".
If you don't believe in gay marriage- marry someone of the opposite sex
If you believe schools should say pray, teach creation, teach YOUR Kid morals, not have sex ed courses...Send Your kid to a school associated with your church!!!
We are becoming more like those living under than Taliban, than the 'Home of the Free'
Then sociopaths like Hagee, who's delusions of granduer motivate him to extend one hand to the Jewish Community about his 'Friendship',while the other holds a sword behind his back. Hagee only supports Israel as a means to his meglomania ends. Israeli is the key to bringing on HAGEE's 'armageddon' . His group of followers are so vain & arrogant they believe THEY are "God's Chosen" generation for 'rapture' and will do ANYTHING to prove it- including facilitating a SELF fulfilling prophecy (Wars). Hagee's dream includes pre-emptively striking Iran which will require Russia & China to respond..sound familiar? "bomb bomb bomb Iran", "Obliterate Iran". And Who is it who has been pushing this idea the hardest..Cheney & Bush.Who stands behind Hagee and has referred to him as "Moses"- LIEberman.
BE AFRAID BE VERY AFRAID OF THE 'CHRISTIAN' EXTREMEISTS-These are the Real terorists, these are the ones who "Hate US for our Freedoms"
Note: I'm sure those 'Public servants' listed above really do not Believe in Hagee's mania- but it sure helps push the public towards THEIR dreams of controlling the Worlds Oil.

...to see how supremely ignorant my fellow countrymen can be.

For the sake of all that is good, research these things for yourselves and don't trust any information that has has been provided by Fox.

The bigotry of these organizations is just so blatantly apparent. And if he such a maverick, why isn't John McCain speaking out against these putrid tactics? They were used against him and his daughter a few years ago.

Why

is it such a bad thing to be a Muslim? Why doesn't Obama reach out to Muslim voters more? Why hasn't he visited a single mosque or met with a single American Muslim group?

Why do our presidential candidates continue to promote fear of Islam? Why does our beloved president also do this?

Because it is a form of control. The US needs an enemy, an adversary to direct its agression towards. The few hundred Islamic radicals in the world have been elevated to mythical status, an entire "war" has been launched against this myth, and the "war" runs the vast machine of economics and military buildup. It also enabled the government to make devastating changes in our laws. Hitler identified the Jews as the people's enemy in much the same way.

This propaganda campaign is very effective; more than 50 percent of the American people have a negative perception of Islam because of it. The news media, lapdogs for Bush and Cheney, continue to feed the myth.

what about the Muslim-baiting?!

The travesty here isn’t that 10% people think Obama is a Muslim. The media help perpetuate lies. As far as lies go, this one is minimal. “Who cares if he is a Muslim?!” should be the response. Thee media should be challenging the racism and stereotypes people have of Islam. This video is sick because of what people think of Muslims. I have yet to see a challenge to the framing of the question “Is Barak a Muslim?” The question should be “Why are people so ignorant about Islam?” Even the great liberal John Stewart perpetuates the framing of the issue in this way.

We should be working to smash all racism, not just “protecting the good Senator’s name”

Sometimes I wonder about the "good-heartedness" of the bloggers who keep writing about such lies as though they were true. I have come to believe that they are helping to perpetuate the lies.

These polls and research centers are all rightwing organizations so why accept what their findings are like it is the gospel truth?

Why not write stories that point out the truth instead of repeating the same old rightwing lies time after time?

The real tragedy in all of this "is-he-or-isn't-he" diversion is that it SHOULD NOT matter. No candidate for public office shall ever be required to pass a religious test (tacit or otherwise.) How far we've strayed from our original principles.
And how FOX loves to distort the truth. It's time we demand more of our MSM and insist that they stop running roughshod over the American public! But if we don't tell them, they'll think we don't mind.
