This HAS to be the silliest "article" Alternet has ever posted. That said, what is it with Americans in general and the out-dated, innacurate, completely discredited concept of "race" anyway??? Much of the rest of the world has moved on from such nonsense and is acting on the premise that every person is just that: a human being with the same rights, the same basic properties and the same general makeup as any other member of our species. Yet, you ask the average USA person about "racial matters" and 99% of them will have a strong opinion one way or another, but almost none of them will admit that "race" as a concept is a complete and absolute farce of an anachronism that has no place at all in a so-called "civilized" society, and is scientifically invalid anyway? Not meaning to come down so hard on an entire country, but come on guys and gals its time to face up to reality: "Race" is not real. (ethnicity, yes - this is a matter of culture, but race in its most commonly used form, is a matter of genetics, and it has been conclusively proven that genetically-speaking, "race" has no bearing on mental factors, which are truly what makes us human after all.)

America's myths - who is worthy, who's not.

Yes, the concept of different "races" is false.
But that isn't important for people who love the complimentary political lies more than they do the unflattering truth.

People will twist themselves into pretzel shapes to try to prove they are "better than" anyone else.
